    Remote controls can sometimes lose their programming

    when you change the batteries. Make sure you keep the

    manual and code lists in a safe place so that you can

    reprogram the remote if you need to.Tip:This remote is already programmed to operate most

    RCA-branded TVs, DVD players, and satellite receivers.Just press the corresponding keyDVDVCR for a DVD

    player, TV for a television, SATCBLDTC for a satellite

    receiver.

    Your universal remote requires two AAA alkaline batteries (notincluded).

    To install the batteries:

    1. Remove the batterycompartment cover.

    2. Insert the batteries, matchingthe batteries to the (+) and() marks inside the batterycompartment.

    3. Push the battery cover back intoplace.

    Battery Precautions:

    Do not mix old and new batteries.

    Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or

    rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries. Always remove old, weak or worn-out batteries promptly

    and recycle or dispose of them in accordance with Local

    and National Regulations.

    To use this universal remote with your home entertainmentsystem, frst you need to program it to control your devices.There are our ways you can program the universal remote tooperate your devices:

    The Auto Code Search goes automatically through all thecodes or the device youre trying to control. Its the easiestmethod, but it can sometimes take longer than some o theother programming methods.

    The Brand Code Search searches through the codes orselect brands o devices. Its not as easy as the auto codesearch, but it can be aster.

    The Direct Code Entry lets you enter a code rom theaccompanying code list or your brand o device. Its not aseasy as the other methods, but its potentially the astestmethod.

    The Manual Code Search lets you manually go throughall the codes or the device youre trying to control.

    Testing the Code for Maximum Functionality

    1. Try a variety o the devices unctions with the remote. Isome device eatures dont work, go to the next step to trya dierent code.

    2. Repeat the Auto Code Search Method rom the beginning.When your device turns off, do not stop searching.Instead, with the unit now o, continue to press the PLAYkey every 5 seconds until the unit turns back on.

    3. Once the unit turns back on, press the REVERSE key on theremote every 2 seconds until your device turns o again.When your device turns off again, press the STOP key.

    4. Test the keys unctionality again by attempting to controla variety o the devices unctions. I the code that hasbeen stored controls the majority o the devices unctions,programming is complete. I the code stored does not givemaximum unctionality, try another code.

    Auto Code SearchThe Auto Code Search goes automatically through all thecodes for the device youre trying to control. When you ndthe one that operates your device, you can stop the search andstore that code.

    TIPS:Each device key is associated with a type of

    devicethe TV is preset to search for TVs, SATCBLDTC

    for satellite receivers, cable boxes or digital TV converters,and DVDVCR for DVD players. To program the DVDVCR

    key to control a PVR or VCR, see theReassigning theDVDVCR Key to Control a VCR section.

    To exit without saving a new code at any point in the Auto

    Code Search, press the EXIT key.

    1. Manually turn on the device youwant to control.

    2. Press and hold the device key you want to program. ThePOWER key illuminates.

    While youre holding down the device key, use your other

    hand to press and hold the remotes POWER key at thesame time. The POWER key turns off.

    3. Wait until the POWER key comeson and stays on. Then releaseboth keys.

    4. Point the remote directly at theront panel o the device youwant to control. Press PLAY onthe remote and wait 5 seconds.The remote is testing a batch o10 codes on your device.

    Did your device turn off?

    YES: Go to step 5.

    NO: Press PLAY again. The remote tests the next batch o10 codes.

    Keep pressing PLAY every 5 seconds until your device turnso.

    5. When your device turns off, pressthe REVERSE key on the remoteand wait at least 2 seconds.The remote tries the last o theprevious ten codes.

    Did your device turn on?

    YES: Press the STOP key. Youredone! Youve programmed thisdevice key.

    NO: Press REVERSE again. The remote tests the nextcode in the batch.

    Keep pressing REVERSE every 2 seconds until your deviceturns back on. When it does, press STOP.

    Note:If you accidentally press the REVERSE key after yourdevice turns on, press the FORWARD key. Then, wait twoseconds to see if your device turns off again.

    NOTES

    Throughout the programming of each key, be sure to keep

    the remote pointed at the IR sensor of the device you are

    currently programming the remote to control.

    Test the remote with the device to make sure the

    device key is programmed with the correct code for

    maximum functionality. If some features dont work, try

    a different code. See the Testing the Code for MaximumFunctionality section below for more information.

    During the Auto Code Search, the remote ignores

    keypresses that arent part of the search.

    The search times out after two minutes (the POWER key

    blinks four times and turns off, and the last programmed

    code under that device key is retained).

    The POWER key blinks four times and turns off when the

    remote has gone through all the codes. The remote exits

    the Auto Code Search. If your device hasnt turned off yet,

    try a different search method.

    Brand Code SearchThe Brand Code Search goes through only the codes or one othe select brands listed in the accompanying code list. I yourbrand o device is listed, this search can be very quick and easy.

    In most cases, the keys onthis remote perorm the sameunctions as the keys on youroriginal remotes once youveprogrammed this remote tooperate your components.Many keys on this remotehave other unctions as well.

    Illuminated POWER keyserves as an indicator light toprovide eedback.

    Device keys (TV,SATCBLDTC , DVDVCR) putthe remote in the right modeto control your device.

    GUIDE and MENU put theremote in menu/guide mode;they also access the same

    eatures as the keys on youroriginal remotes.

    EXIT exits remoteprogramming; it alsoperorms the same unctionsas on your original remotes.

    Arrow keys act as navigationkeys in device guides andmenu systems.

    The INPUTDIGITAL and (dash) key has threeunctions: (1) it togglesthrough all the video sourcesconnected to your TV; (2)when the remote is in VCRmode, this button togglesbetween VCR and the TVinput; (3) when youreentering digital channelnumbers directly, this buttonlets you separate the mainchannel number rom thesub-channel number (suchas 59.1).

    Reassigning the DVDVCR Key to Control

    a VCRThe DVDVCR key defaults to control a DVD player. If you wantthe DVDVCR key to control a VCR, you must reassign it.

    1. Press and hold the DVDVCR key. The POWER keyilluminates. Keep holding down the DVDVCR key.

    2. While holding down the DVDVCR key, press and releasethe number 2 key on the keypad. The POWER key turns off.

    3. Release the DVDVCR key. The POWER key blinks four timesand then turns off. The DVDVCR key is now set to control aVCR.

    4. Follow the directions in the auto, brand, direct entry, or manualcode search to program the DVDVCR key for your VCR.

    Code RetrievalOnce youve programmed the remote to control your devices,you may want to record the codes or uture reerence. I youused the Direct Code Entry method, this is easy. Just ndthe codes you entered and make a note o them in the boxesbelow. I you used one o the Code Search methods to programyour remote or i you used the Direct Entry method but dontremember the code, you will need to retrieve each devicesve-digit code. Retrieving the actual code and writing it downwill save you time i you ever need to program the remoteagain. I the codes are recorded, you can use the Direct Entrymethod to reprogram your remote to control your devices,which is quick and easy.

    1. Press and hold the device key(TV, SATCBLDTC, DVDVCR)whose code you wish to retrieve.The POWER key illuminates.Keep pressing the device key.

    2. While holding the device key down, press and hold theINFO key. The POWER key turns off. After holding downboth keys for three seconds, the POWER key turns back on.

    3. Release both keys. The POWER key remains on.

    4. Starting with the number 1 key, press and release eachnumber key on the keypad in the ollowing order: 1-9, then0. The number that causes the POWER key to blink is therst number o the code. As you nd each number o thecode, write it down or uture reerence.

    Note:All TV codes begin with the number 1; all VCR and DVR

    codes begin with the number 2; all DVDs, the number 3; and

    all satellite receivers, cable boxes and DTV converters, the

    number 5.

    5. Repeat step 4 until you have retrieved all ve numbers inthe code. After the fth number is retrieved, the POWERkey blinks briefy, then turns o.

    TIP:To exit the Code Retrieval Mode at any time, press the

    EXIT key.

    Note:I you press an invalid key during the Code Retrievalprocess, the remote will not respond. I you do not press a

    valid Code Retrieval key (TV, SATCBLDTC, DVDVCR, INFO,

    EXIT), Code Retrieval times out after 15 seconds. The POWER

    key blinks our times, and then turns o.

    IMPORTANT

    Because this remote controls more than one device, youmust frst tell the remote which device you wish to

    operate. That means, i you wish to operate your TV, you

    must frst press the TV key to put the remote in the TV

    Mode. The remote stays in that device mode until you pressa different device key. For example, if your remote is in TV

    Mode and you want to operate the DVD player, you must

    press the DVDVCR key to change device modes.

    Volume Punch-ThroughVolume punch-through allows the VOL and MUTE keys, whenpressed in SATCBLDTC or DVDVCR modes, to punchthrough to TV. Volume punch-through occurs automatically

    and allows you to control the volume without exiting thecurrent mode.

    Note:Volume punch-through does not occur in cases wherethe component code has its own volume/mute controls, suchas some satellite receivers.

    Transport Key Punch-ThroughTransport key punch-through allows the transport keys (REVERSE,PLAY, FORWARD, RECORD, STOP, PAUSE, SKIP BACK, SLOW,and SKIP FWD), when pressed in TV or SATCBLDTC modes,to punch through to DVDVCR mode. Transport key punch-through occurs automatically and allows you to use the transportkeys without exiting the current mode. For example, i thetransport keys were last used in DVD mode and accessed againater pressing the TV key, they will punch through to the DVD.

    Note:Transport key punch-through does not occur in caseswhere the device code has its own transport key data, such asa satellite receiver with a built-in DVR.
