Evening all, so we come into tonight’s local derby vs Dorchester on the back

of two solid 1-0 victories, we base our success on cleans sheets and we know with our attacking players we’ll always score goals. To get two back to back will now hopefully kick us on after a slow but not bad start to the season.

Barnstaple Town came to Tatnam in the FA cup and it proved a tough encounter, low-er league sides always cause upsets in the FA Cup but we did well in this fixture and were very professional with our per-formance, it wasn’t fantastic by any means but it was a clean sheet and a 1-0 win, we were in the hat and we move on, but we know we can do better.

Up next we faced a tough away test against Biggleswade Town, a team who have made some good signings and look strong this season. We man-aged to come away with a fantastic 0-1 win, the lads were brilliant and I was happy that young Luke Holmes got his

goal, he’s such a bright young player with a good attitude and is a top lad and if he keeps working hard I’m sure can really kick on. The team defended brilliantly through-out and thoroughly deserved our clean sheet. I’ll be very surprised if many sides come away from there with 3 points this season.

Tonight is an exciting fixture, both us and Dorchester are up there in the league and they have started the season well. They have players that have been with us previously and vice versa so that can only add to the rivalry. So enjoy the game and get behind the lads, we need a good atmosphere at Tatnam and it’s time to make it a fortress again.

BOARDROOM NOTESChris ReevesVice Chairman

Tonight sees one of the fixtures that are always looked out for as soon as they are published - home to

Dorchester. Always a big game with so much more than league points or cup progress at stake! The history and rivalry between the Clubs goes back decades and the links between the two clubs go on and on. We have a saying here at Poole: once a Dolphin always a Dolphin.

It is always strange to see ex Poole players in the opposition ranks - play-ing tonight’s opponents that is always likely to happen and the familiar faces in black and white this evening are Charlie Davis, Jake Smeeton and of course their player-manager Mark Jermyn who graced our side all too briefly at the start of last season. The players officials and supporters of “the Magpies” are most welcome to Tatnam and we look forward to a cracking nights entertain-ment. The postscript to this introduction to this Southern League Premier Division clash is that if we think it strange to see ex Poole players in black and white,h ow much stranger must it be for Dorches-ter supporters to get used to seeing Dorchester legend Jamie Gleeson playing for us!

Both teams should come into this fixture full of confidence. Our lads sent the impressive travelling support home very happy from Biggleswade after a clinical first strike for the Club from Luke Holmes gave us the first three points that any visiting side has taken from Biggleswade this season. It was a real proper competent away performance and given that we were without the sick Steve Devlin and the not quite fit Richard

Gillespie all the more creditable.

Dorchester meanwhile were dispatching in form Stratford by 3-1 helped by a goal from Charlie Davis.

Plenty happening off the field at pres-ent.Friday sees our annual golf day at Canford Magna ably organised by Sam Bumford. Not too late to get involved- see Sam or any director for details.

Also- we are 125 this year! A great cause for celebration so do look out for all the different things we will look to or-ganise to mark this impressive achieve-ment (against a fair few odds I might say!). If you would like to be involved with the organisation of this do please shout! You will be made very welcome.

Finally the Club is looking for a clutch of new faces to form a Vice Presidents Board to help take the Club forward - look out on the website, social media and the local press for more information on that.

As ever, enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 tickets.

MATCH REPORT MATCH REPORT

0 1L Holmes

Poole returned to winning ways in the league, as they won for the third

consecutive time at the Carls-berg Stadium, also hitting the woodwork on three occa-sions. Poole also debuted their new “Fans Kit”, a lovely light blue number.

Waders’ stopper, Ian Brown, put in another superb shift against the Dolphins, as he prevented the scoreline from looking embarrassing.

Marvin Brooks’ aerial prow-ess meant he was a handful all afternoon for the home side’s defence, as he rose above his markers on multi-ple occasions, while the three Luke’s pace and close control caused many headaches for

the hosts, stretching and pull-ing the back four constantly with dangerous attacks.

Luke Holmes did well to beat two men with some quick feet, after latching onto a superb ball from Brooks, and his shot may have taken a slight deflection as it whizzed through a defenders’ legs, past a stranded Brown in the Biggleswade goal.

It wasn’t a completely dom-inating performance from the Dolphins,as Walker and Lind-say had to make some last ditch challenges to prevent the hosts getting in on the goalscoring action.

Some brave defending from the Biggleswade boys meant the visitors went in at the

MATCH REPORT MATCH REPORTbreak with just the one goal lead, after some real “bodies on the line” performance from the defenders in green,

Lewis Tallack replaced Will Spetch, and thus the two Lewis’ switched sides of the pitch, with Lindsay slotting back in on his preferred posi-tion of left back, and ditto for Tallack, at right back.

Surprisingly, Tallack, more adored by the Poole faithul for his astute defensive perfor-mances, made a swashbuck-ling run into the penalty area, getting behind the ball to fire a powefrul shot on goal, which was well met by Brown, again.

Biggleswade gave the visit-ing defence a scare as a well struck shot bounced down, off the underside of the bar, bouncing clear – much to the dismay of the home crowd.

Brown’s best saves of the day came in quick succes-sion, after having tipped Lewis Lindsay’s bullet header over, made a fantastic save to his bottom right, only to flick the ball in Walker’s path, who could only fire into the keeper, who stood tall to save again.

Poole held on to record a fifth win in six over the Wad-ers, and their 3rd successive win at the Carlsberg Stadium. Poole will look to take some form into a tasty clash with at Tatnam, when they face Dor-set Rivals, Dorchester, in a 3rd v 4th battle, with both teams looking to gain lost ground on league leaders Chippenham.

The Fan’s View

Jack Tanner gives his view on the match:

Poole had a barrage of shots on the Biggleswade goal, but due to some heroic goalkeeping, could

only score once, but that was good enough to earn another three points and move up to third. Massive game tonight, in a key battle at the top, to

put pressure on Chippenham.

Today we welcome local rivals Dorchester to the Tatnam for another league encounter. It’s

somewhat disappointing from my point of view to play a local derby like this on a Tuesday night in September . Having said that although the league table is somewhat embryonic it certainly adds some significance to play the match with us lying third in the table and them immediately below us. I always felt Mark Jermyn would do a good job when he returned as manager and that’s proved to be the case. He is a tenacious competitor as a player with an immense enthusiasm and will to win. It would appear these qualities are rubbing off on his players and they have gained some impressive results so far including from their point of view a cherished win against Weymouth. Dorchester have seemingly operated under tight finan-cial constraints in recent seasons but looking at the squad they have assem-bled things must be improving off the field and I have no doubt they will be challenging at the very top end of the season come April .

There are many players involved in the match who have played on both sides including Steve Devlin, Michael Walker Jamie, Gleeson, Jem, Charlie Davis Jake Smeeton and Neil Martin. This always adds a bit of spice and I expect to see a full blooded encounter tonight with plenty of aggression and passion.

We had a great result on Saturday away from home against a strong Biggleswade side. Luke Roberts was immense and is really maturing into a top player. I have always had complete

faith in Luke and I’m so pleased he is starting to get some recog-nition. Apart from being a talented player he is a lovely lad who has never been a moments trou-ble. He has to keep working and stay focused and he has a great footballing future ahead of him.

Luke Holmes, at only 18, has also im-pressed since his arrival from Wimborne and is another player I have high hopes for.

It was a concern to lose Will Spetch at half time through injury but I am hop-ing it’s nothing too serious and he will be back tonight.

In the FA cup we have a really tough draw away at Hayes and Yeading. The draw doesn’t ever seemed to have been particularly kind to us in recent years but it’s certainly a game we be-lieve we can win if we play to our best. It would be great if you could travel in big numbers to that game as a strong vocal presence at an away match always helps.

The league shows all the signs of be-ing very open this year. I am sure there are 13 or 14 teams that genuinely think they can challenge for the play offs or better. We have to make sure we stay strong , stay consistent and learn from the experiences of last season . That, combined with you the supporters staying fully behind the players will give us every chance of the success we all crave.

We got the all important result last home game 1-0 in the FA Cup. The performance may not have been the best, but at least we remained in the hat and now have an away trip to Hayes and Yeading this coming Satur-day. On Saturday gone, we put in a fine per-formance away to Biggleswade and were only prevented from scoring more than the one goal by the heorics of Ian Browne in the Waders goal. Tonight we welcome Mark Jermyn’s 4th placed Dorchester for the first of our Dorset Derbies. Come on you Dolphins, bragging rights at stake!

I would like to thank Portman Stone for Sponsoring the Barnstaple Match and choosing Jamie Whisken as their Man of the Match. Thanks also to Cliff and Kathy God-dard who sponsored the Ball and as Season Ticket Holders have guaranteed themselves reserved seats in the stand. I would also like to thank Amy Bayes, who was our mascot against Barnstaple.

For tonight’s game, we welcome Meridian Leisure Services Direct Ltd as Match Spon-sor, who responded to a Twitter request whilst on holiday in Spain and the Ball has been sponsored by Peter and Olive Reeves who as season ticket holders, will receive reserved seats in the Stand for the rest of the season. Todays Mascot is Be Be Smith. Let’s hope you all have a great evening and hopefully a Poole Town win. We are doing quite well for Match and Ball Sponsors plus Mascots this season, but still have some availability. If you or your company would like to sponsor a Match, Ball, Player, or know someone who would like to be a Mascot please get in contact. At the time of writing, Jack Dickson and Luke Roberts are still looking for Sponsors and we are looking for Match Sponsors for the home game against Redditch on Saturday 3rd October – The cost is just £180+VAT.

The club turned 125 years old on Sunday 20th Sept and to mark the occasion we are looking to form a new Vice-Presidents

Board. Cost is £5,000 and in return you will receive free entry to Tatnam for 3 years, with boardroom hospitality, for two people plus seats at the Sportsmans Dinner and End of Season Presentation Dinner, as well as the chance to shape the future of the club. Interested parties are to contact any member of the board.

We finally launched the new fans shirt and wore it away to Biggleswade for the first time on Saturday. If you do not already have yours, you will be able to collect pre-orders from Robtheshirt in the Clubshop. Rep-licas can be purchased in the Clubshop today and orders can be placed online for the home shirt. The fans shirt is a Limit-ed Edition, modelled here by Samantha, with only 100 made in total and only available from Tatnam in sizes 10/12, S, M, L, XL and XXL only, so get yours before they sell out. There are all kinds of other bargains to be had in the Clubshop, so give Rob’s Pod a visit before you leave today.

The annual golf day is this Friday 25th September 2015 when we will be returning to Canford Magna once again. If you are interested, contact [email protected] for further information as soon as possible. The annual Sportsmans Dinner will be on Thursday November 12th with details to follow.
