CSG Employment Requirements – 3/6
INSTRUCTIONS: This is a general list of work conditions coming from the Work Manual for all new employees.
Overview
This document is designed to work in conjunction with the standard EF Work Manual (latest version found online within the
HR Intranet) and is solely designed to clarify any particular aspects of operations within the EF CSG that the general Work
Manual may not cover. At no time may this document supersede the official company Work Manual and, should any conflict
of information exist, the company Work Manual will always take precedence over this document.
1. Part-Time Teacher Payment Rates
1.1 A base hourly rate will be offered to staff initially depending on individual qualifications and experience as well as
capabilities in class preparation, material design, teaching ability and general teaching knowledge.
1.2 Payment rates will range from 120-200 RMB for local SMART School teachers, 200-250 RMB for international SMART
School teachers, 150-250 RMB for local external teachers and 200-300 RMB for international external teachers.
2. Preparation Hours
2.1 Teachers will be expected to utilize readily available materials as often as possible to minimize the total amount of
prep time necessary for each lesson.
2.2 Salaried employees will conduct all prep time during their standard office hours
2.3 Part-time employees will not receive additional compensation for necessary class preparation as the cost of class
preparation has been calculated into the total hourly compensation amount.
2.4 Reasonable preparation time for salaried staff shall not exceed one hour of class preparation per three hour class
session and half an hour for any shorter lessons.
9
2.5 Should additional preparation time be necessary for a client for either salaried or part-time employees for special
client cases written confirmation should be given by the Regional Manager. Should written confirmation not be
received it will be assumed that the preparation time did not occur and will not be considered as paid work time.
3. Transportation
3.1 All transportation is calculated based on the time it would take to travel to and from the central office of operations
in the region to the client.
3.2 All employees are expected to follow standard company transportation guidelines as set forth in the Work Manual.
3.3 All costs for transportation undergone on the company’s behalf will be compensated for by the company, provided
all guidelines set forth in the Work Manual are met and a proper taxi receipt (“fapiao”) is provided.
3.4 All salaried employees will not receive additional compensation for travel time. Scheduled working hours will be
adjusted accordingly for all travel time incurred utilizing section 3.1 of this document.
3.5 Part-time staff transportation time compensation shall be made along the following guidelines (subject to approval
on a case-by-case basis by appropriate Account Manager in charge of the client in question):
3.6.1 For all time spent traveling over two hours but less than three hours round trip, half an hour of time will be
paid to the teacher at a rate equal to the hourly rate the teacher will receive for instructing the lesson.
3.6.2 For all time spent traveling over three hours round trip the teacher will be paid a total of one hour of
teaching time equal to the hourly rate the teacher will receive for instructing the lesson.
3.6.3 If a teacher wishes to claim a taxi expense that is not absolutely necessary to reach the client (i.e. public
transportation is not utilized in a reasonable manner) no transportation time may be claimed as
compensation for the travel.
3.6.4 All transportation reimbursements must be approved before they are granted to any employee.
10
4. Standard Working Time
4.1 Unless stated otherwise a standard working week (on a full-time basis) shall consist of a maximum of 20 teaching
hours and 20 non-teaching hours for a total of 40 hours each week.
4.2 For all salaried staff working less than a 100% full-time contract each standard working week will consist of a
proportional amount of each number of hours (e.g. a 75% salaried contract will work up to 15 teaching hours and
15 other hours per week).
5. Overtime
5.1 Any time worked over standard contractual obligated hours shall count as overtime.
5.2 Overtime will be paid at the rate according to each individual’s contractual agreement.
5.3 All overtime must be approved in writing by the Regional and/or National Manager. Failure to receive written
confirmation of overtime hours will result in overtime not being calculated for a given time period.
6. Payment Period
6.1 Standard salaried and part-time payments will be processed each month on the same cycle as EF SMART Schools
(the final day of each month).
6.2 Part-time and overtime payments will be calculated from the 15th of one month to the 14th of the following month,
to be paid in the following month’s salary (i.e. from the 15th of July through the 14th of August, to be paid in
August’s salary).
7. Dress Code
7.1 All employees should dress in business casual or business formal at all times.
11
7.2 When visiting clients proper care should be taken to present a positive, professional image at all times. This will
often require a more professional attire than that worn in the office or seen in standard SMART Schools.
8. Fulfillment of Duties
8.1 All staff will be expected to complete and submit all necessary reports, forms or other documentation on time as
required by either their supervisor or client (as per client agreements with EF).
8.2 When visiting a client all staff should arrive at the client’s site no later than 10 minutes before the arranged
meeting time.
8.3 All preparation for necessary client visits should be done prior to actual client-side visits.
8.4 Should additional time be necessary at a client all staff are expected to fulfill reasonable and prudent requests
appropriately.

Most Common Questions Interviewees Ask – 5/6
INSTRUCTIONS: This is a general list of questions Interviewee generally ask the interviewer.
Q: Who is EF and what do they do?
A: EF is a multinational training organization based in Stockholm, Sweden that was founded in 1965 to “break down cultural barriers”.
While in China our primary operations revolve around training we actually provide a range of services from educational tours to classroom
training and even the opportunity to earn an MBA or MIB through our highly accredited HULT Business School. Our operations span over 50
countries and within China operate in both centrally run business units (such as SMART School, our business unit) and franchise operations.
Q: What kind of clients do you teach?
A: Our clients primarily consist of Fortune 500 companies as well as major state owned enterprises here in China and government
organizations (both local and foreign). Business sectors we tend to deal with are those relating to IT, finance, banking, retail, medical and
pharmaceutical as well as general international business or skills training for key clients. The trainees themselves range in both skill and
position within the companies, having positions anywhere from basic technicians to highly powerful CEOs.
Q: How large of classes do you normally teach, and where are they?
A: We generally conduct lessons at our clients’ offices, ranging in location throughout Shanghai though generally in more centralized
business area. Classes range anywhere from one-to-one VIP training to group training with class sizes typically around 15 individuals.
Occasionally we do have larger or “off-sized” classes, though these are not a norm. All class sizes and approximate levels will be
communicated with the trainer prior to training commences in order to allow for proper preparation, though be prepared for group sizes to
change periodically (both growing and shrinking slightly) throughout the course of a training period as some students have obligations to
their normal work,
Q: When do classes normally occur, and how long is one client contract for?
A: Classes generally take place during standard business hours (Mon-Fri, 9:00-18:00) though occasionally some clients like to have lessons
take place either after work or on weekends. Each training period generally lasts 3 to 6 months with 1.5 or 2 hour classes taking place once
or twice a week in most cases. Bear in mind this may change depending upon each client’s needs and will be confirmed by the appropriate
account manager prior to training commencing.
Q: What resources/materials do you use in your classes?
A: We primarily utilize a set of proprietary business training materials developed by EF that target both general English development along
with business soft skills awareness and training.
Q: Can we (the trainers) modify/supplement training with our own materials?
A: We aim at all times to best meet our client needs, and as such this may require additional materials or changes to our initial class plans.
Each trainer is welcome to use their discretion in supplementing classes or adjusting them appropriately; however in the process all
materials should be submitted to the CSG prior to being used in class in order to ensure quality of delivery and any course changes should
be recorded for our records as well.
