It should be a standard requirement for

Eskom to justify the need for load

shedding to its customers, and to further

justify the stage (stage 1 to 4) by stating

how many and which generators affect

their output.

Currently, all they have to tell us is that

they are implementing Stage X load

shedding due to failure of generators or

planned maintenance on generators.

Let the public know which generators have

been overhauled due to failure or

preventative maintenance cycle, then they

will not expect them to be on the list of

failures for at least a year.

Should these reappear on the list, there

should be an investigation and penalties.

The question asked by everyone is why

load shed an area when there is a technical

glitch which prevents them from infor-

ming their customers about the impending

power cut?

The point is: there is too much negligence

and contempt from Eskom.

The government should impose on Eskom

to make available to its customers an audit

trail for breakdown and preventative

maintenance.

Readers don’t know how many generators

have been maintained, and how many of

those that have been maintained can be

classified as reliable.

Small businesses experience great losses

due to un announce power failure.

This issue has become a major concern

for each household and especially business

owners.

I beg all to read till the end of this article.

I (Ray Goddess) arrived in Heidelberg in

December 2005 with my f irst sermon

being preached on 25 December 2005. In

February 2006 I invited the leaders of our

Church to attend a retreat. On that retreat,

and I believe guided by the Holy Spirit,

the members of the retreat discerned that

God had a special vision for Heidelberg

Methodist Church. This vision was as

follows: HMC IS CALLED TO BE A

CATALYST INTO THE GREATER

HEIDELBERG. I am blessed to be able to

say that our leadership took this calling

seriously and we immediately started

looking at how we could fulfil this calling.

Up to this point I guess we could say that

“the rest is history” with our outreach

in Heidelberg aangekom en op 26 Desem-

ber 2005 my eerste preek gelewer.

In Februarie 2006 het ek die leiers van ons

gemeente genooi om ‘n geestelike ver-

diepings naweek by te woon.

Gedurende die verloop van die naweek, en

ek glo geïnspireer deur die Heilige Gees,

het die lede by hierdie byeenkoms

onderskei dat God ‘n spesiale visie vir die

Heidelberg Methodiste Gemeente het.

Die fisie is dat HMC GEROEP IS OM TE

DIEN AS KATALISATOR IN DIE GROTER

GEMEENSKAP VAN HEIDELBERG.

Dit is vir my ‘n seën om te kan sê dat die

leiers van die gemeente hierdie roeping

baie ernstig opgeneem het en onmiddellik

ondersoek ingestel het, oor hoe om hierdie

roeping te vervul.

Tot op hierdie punt kan ons seker sê die

res is geskiedenis. Ons uitreikings aksie

Indawo Yosizo (dis is ‘n “NPO”, “NPC” en

“PBO”) verleen hulp aan honderde wees

en kwesbare kinders en volwassenes wat

deur HIV/VIGS geaffekteer is.

Indawo deel ook weekliks 70 tot 130 voed-

sel pakkies uit aan behoeftige families

asook gekookte maaltye aan meer as 50

hawelose mense.

Saam met ‘n sopkombuis, waarmee ons

uitreik na die gemeenskap, het ons ook ‘n

brei- en naaldwerk groep om mense te

bemagtig. Ons het ‘n hulpprogram vir

dwelm afhanklikes.

Met inagneming dat dit ‘n roeping op HMC

is, om ‘n katalisator in die groter gemeen-

skap van Heidelberg te wees, en nie net

vir HMC nie, het ons onself begin afvra

wat die volgende stap is.

Ons het die antwoord gekry toe ons besef

dat die Vrug van die Gees manifesteer in

TRANSFORMASIE.

Dit begin eerstens met transformasie van

onsself en dan die transformasie van ons

dorp HEIDELBERG.

Ons dink terug aan die naweek waartydens

Angus Buchan hier besoek afgelê het.

Daar was GEEN misdaad aangemeld by die

polisie gedurende die hele naweek nie – te

danke aan die krag van gebed.

As dit is wat God kon doen die naweek van

Oom Angus, dink net vir ‘n oomblik wat

Hy kan doen as ons bid vir TRANSFOR-

MASIE ,VOLHARD in gebed en vir God

vra om Heidelberg te transformeer.

Dit gaan GEENSINS oor HMC of enige

denominasie nie – dit is alleenlik God wat

Heidelberg wil en sal transformeer met ‘n

VERENIGDE liggaam in Christus.

Ons doen ‘n beleefde, tog ernstige beroep

op ALLE volgelinge van God om die

inligting sessie by te woon by Heidelberg

Methodist Church op Donderdag 7 Mei

Vulnerable Children (OVC) and adults

suffering from and infected by HIV/AIDS.

At the same time Indawo gives between 70

and 130 food parcels out to families each

week and upwards of 50 street people

receive cooked meals each month. There

is knitting and sewing groups, soup

kitchen and an addiction help program.

Remembering that this is a calling on HMC

to be a catalyst into the greater Heidelberg

(and not FOR HMC), we wondered what the

next step would be.

Our answer came after we looked at the fact

that the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT is

manifested with TRANSFORMATION.

This starts with the transformation of

ourselves and then moves on to the

transformation of our town Heidelberg.

Remembering what God did the weekend

that Angus Buchan was here – NO reported

crime to the police station during the entire

weekend – all because of the power of

prayer. If God did this on the weekend Oom

Angus was here then imagine what He can

do when we pray for TRANSFORMATION

and then CONTINUE to pray, asking God

to transform Heidelberg.

This is NOT about HMC or any

denomination at all – this is all about GOD

wanting to transform Heidelberg with

UNITED Christ Followers. We are calling

on ALL interested Christ Followers to

please attend an information session

(including a video looking at how God

transformed FOUR cities in various places

in the world) at Heidelberg Methodist

Church at 19h00 on Thursday the 7 May

2015.

James 3:13 If you are wise and

understand God’s ways, prove it by living

an honorable life, doing good works with

the humility that comes from wisdom. 14

But if you are bitterly jealous and there is

selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover

up the truth with boasting and lying. 15

For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s

kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly,

unspiritual, and demonic. 16 For wherever

there is jealousy and selfish ambition,

there you will find disorder and evil of

every kind. (NLT).

In 1 Corinthians 13:1-4 the Apostle Paul

gives us a summary of what true, Godly

love looks like. After briefly describing

what love is, he continues to list eight traits

that love most definitely is not. The first

of these negative attributes is jealousy.

Love and jealousy can never co-exist.

Jealousy can be def ined as feelings of

resentment towards another because of

their achievements or possessions.

The Bible talks about jealousy often. In

Matthew 20:11 Jesus addresses the issue

of jealousy with a parable about labourers

that started working at different times of

the day, yet received the same wages. This

enraged the workers that started early in

the morning (Matthew 20:1-16). In this

parable Jesus speaks specifically of being

jealous when someone else is blessed in

terms of having an “evil eye” (Matthew

20:15).

Jealousy is either about personally wanting

what someone else has or wishing that

they never had what they have. This can

apply to physical possessions as well as

abstract things such as praise or status.

At the heart of jealousy lies self ish

ambition. This speaks of begrudging

others in pursuit of personal advancement

and sets the stage for evil behaviour. James

warns against this as a door-opener to

disorder and evil of every kind (James

3:13-16).

Right in the beginning of human existence

we find Eve in the Garden of Eden being

tempted to disobey God. The very fact that

Eve coveted something she believed she

lacked and God had, made her vulnerable

to temptation and provided Satan with the

perfect angle of appeal for the orchestra-

tion of the fall of mankind.

Jealousy is not simply a negative, socially

unacceptable emotion that should be

avoided. It is a destructive spirit that

operates on a demonic level with the

explicit purpose of ushering in every

conceivable form of evil and devastation

(James 4:1-2; James 3:14-18).

In Proverbs 27:4 the Bible teaches that

despite the cruelty that accompanies anger

Love is not jealousand wrath, jealousy is even more

dangerous than both of these. Jealousy

shrouded in boasting and lying or

exaggeration can easily appear good and

so be mistaken for wisdom.

As God’s children however, we need to

discern between Godly wisdom and earthly

wisdom. Godly wisdom is always

accompanied with humility and good

works. Godly wisdom is pure, peace

loving, gentle and willing to yield to others,

it is merciful and becomes evident in good

deeds. This kind of wisdom is sincere and

shows no favoritism (James 3:17-18).

Living and interacting like this should

form the foundation of every relationship

in our lives – our marriages, families,

social relations as well as business

interactions.

All of these should be conducted not from

a place of jealousy and competition but

from a place of love and Godliness. When

we say the right things but do not align our

actions with these Biblical guidelines, we

are playing at Christianity and simply

practicing a worthless religion as opposed

to having a relationship with the Living

God.

In Philippians 1:18 the Apostle Paul

demonstrates the correct attitude of love

and total security in God when he finds

himself incarcerated and receiving news

of people that preach the Gospel from a

place of jealousy and rivalry with him.

Instead of being intimidated or infuriated,

his focus immediately falls on how the

Gospel, the Kingdom would be influenced

by this – since the Gospel was being

preached, he had no personal sense of loss

or hurt and actually rejoiced in the midst

of their malicious behavior.

Just like being patient and kind, not being

jealous is something that must happen on

a heart level before it will consistently be

evident in our lives. We need to decide not

to allow any form of jealousy in our hearts

or minds and more than that, we need to

rejoice with those around us when they

prosper.

When we embrace a spirit of gratitude and

contentment it brings glory to God and

protect us from jealousy creeping into our

lives.

We can choose to bring together through

love rather than divide through jealousy.

We have this beautiful promise from James

3:18 And those who are peacemakers will

plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of

righteousness.

Determine this week to walk in love, not

just talk, but actions that represent our

Father accurately.

Ekurhuleni makes a pledge against

xenophobic attacks and threats.

Following the recent spate of xenophobic

attacks that befell the country, the Speaker

of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Patricia Kumalo, today

hosted the Anti-Xenophobia Dialogue at

the Germiston Civic Centre.

The dialogue created a platform for fellow

Africans to engage on the source of the

xenophobic violence and to also examine

the impact that the attacks and threats have

on the country’s economy and image.

During his keynote address, the Deputy

Urgent pledgeMinister of Trade and Industry Mzwandile

Masina encouraged South Africans to

make a pledge to become active citizens

who will say “not in my name will the blood

of fellow Africans be shed” during these

attacks.

“We all have a role to play to ensure a

peaceful co-existence in communities.

Business, labour and civil society is

encouraged to educate South Africans on

the need for peaceful coexistence with all

who live in our communities,” said

Masina.

“Violence has never resolved problems

but dialogue does”, he added. “We need

to understand the cause of these attacks

for us to find lasting solution that will aid

in preventing xenophobic attacks and

ensure Africans live amongst other

Africans in harmony.”

The address was followed by discussions

amongst invited representatives from

various communities of foreign nationals,

government departments of International

Relations, Justice and Home of Affairs as

well as civil society.


A 34 years old male suspect was arrested

for Shoplifting at Truworth Clothing

Store, Victorian Centre, Heidelberg on

April 13 at about 11:30.

It is alleged that a security guard noticed

the suspect passing the teller without

paying the clothes that he putted in a bag.

The security guard requested to check the

suspect’s bag when he was leaving through

sion was a moment in history when, in

the spirit of forgiveness and reconci-

liation, the victims of apartheid came

face to face with their persecutors.

The TRC represented a dialogue on a

national scale for peace and reconciliation.

This dialogue between victim and

oppressor took place in our public spaces.

It aimed to move us from a place of

vengeance to one of peace and forgive-

ness.

But where are we today?

We are destroying 100 year old statues and

I fail to understand how this will help us.

Surely we must have greater battles to

f ight? And surely we must stare the

mistakes of our past in the face so that we

never repeat them?

Vandalising statues will not unburden us

of our history. It only provides fuel to the

fires of racial nationalists on our left and

right. We saw this in Pretoria with Steve

Hofmeyr and Julius Malema’s followers

clashing. But those of us who believe in a

non-racial centre know that the only way

we will change things in this country is if

we unite around shared values.

And to do that we have to talk more as a

nation. We cannot erase our painful past,

scars and all. Instead of vandalising

statues maybe it’s time we spoke about the

real issues holding us back.

Anger directed at statues makes no sense.

Look at our society today! Our education

and health systems remain fundamentally

unequal. A lack of opportunity has left an

entire generation of young South Africans

without hope.

The lights go off in our homes almost daily

and we struggle more each month with

higher food, electricity and transport costs.

Our streets are overrun with criminality

and our young people are calling

foreigners the enemy.

If we had the opportunities to succeed

would we really make immigrants the

enemy, when they have probably fled even

worse circumstances?

This debate needs to focus on the causes

behind the anger that people are

experiencing. We have to ask if people

are angry at statues, and what they

represent, or at the despair they are

experiencing more than two decades into

freedom. Vandalising statues detracts from

the conversation we should be having.

Let’s have a conversation about every

person getting the same opportunities to

be the best they can be – irrespective of

of the terrible past from which we come –

using that memory not as a means to keep

us shackled to the past in a negative

manner, but rather as a joyous reminder

of how far we have come and how much

we have achieved.”

Our journey has been a hopeful one, a

miracle, a shining example amongst the

countries of the world. As a 21 year old

country we must not only learn from our

painful history, we must take ownership

of our future. Let us build new statues that

celebrate the unsung heroes. And let’s

understand the ones we have already.

But most importantly let us now rise up

like responsible citizens - let us together

take up the challenges of building our

country, let us build our Rainbow Nation,

in which we all have equal opportunities

and prospects of a shared future.

voorligting aan werknemers oor hoe ‘n

goeie ambisieuse werker moet optree.

Die wyse Salomo gee hierdie goeie raad

aan die aspirant kryger in Spreuke 4 vers

oorspronge van die lewe.

en hou ver van jou af die verkeerdheid van

3 Suspects were arrested for possession

of an unlicensed firearm on Sunday,

April 19.

The suspects aged between 24 and 27

years.

On Sunday morning police received

reports of a fight going on between two

groups at the Ndudula Street shops in

Duduza.

Members of Duduza SAPS immediately

responded and on arrival were informed

that a few of the men made off in a white

Golf 7 GTi in the direction of Sonnestraal

Road, and shots were fired.

Members immediately called for backup

and assistance. Members of Dunnottar

SAPS responded.

They were able to corner the suspect

vehicle on the intersection of Namane

and Sonnestraal Roads in Roseview,

Duduza.

Not since the height of the dark days of the State of Emergency

have we need the pervasive violence that we have had in the last

two weeks.

I never dreamt that we would revert back to those dark days.

However, all this is completely understandable and logical thanks

to the Zuma administration.

The truth is that when other countries, such as Mozambique,

Mauritius and Angola are showing good economic growth, South

Africa continues on a downward trajectory.

This is thanks to the Zuma government and its policies which

ensures that corruption goes up whilst unemployment goes down.

As in other countries quality education is delivered and

emphasised, our education system continues to disadvantage our

youth with bad quality education.

So the ordinary unemployed South African “on the ground”, sees

minimal opportunities and prospects for employment and

becomes increasingly frustrated. At the same time, the ordinary

South African citizen sees those in the ANC, and those connected

to it, getting richer and richer through questionable means;

Nkandla immediately comes to mind!

Foreigners come into our country, and appear to thrive

economically because of their knowledge, education and skills

advantage. The poor unemployed South African sees this and, from

his or her perspective, cannot understand how this is possible

when he or she cannot develop in his or her own country.

Add the violence encouraged and sponsored by the ANC

government against Members of Parliament and unaccountable

comments from royalty and members of the Zuma clan and we

have the scene set for violence against innocent people.

So over a week after this violence erupted government makes

official public statements in this regard. The President used his

answer to questions Parliamentary session as an opportunity to

address this issue.

In itself this was a good thing, however what came out of this

emerged a lost opportunity for the President. His address on this

issue came across as insincere and emotionless, President Zuma’s

Government

responsible

body language reflected this too. The President mentioned

nothing about statements made by the King in Kwazulu-Natal

and, even closer to home, Xenophobia comments made by

Edward Zuma, son of the President.

The root of this violence can be laid directly on the lap of

government. The Zuma government is doing little to deal with

our growing unemployment rate, at the same time our economy

continues to spend more time in intensive care without immediate

prospects of improving. Our suffocating labour laws contribute

to the retardation of our economic growth, as Cosatu dictates

government’s policy.

Government needs to start dealing with this core issues, stop

looking at introducing apparent “quick-fix” solutions which will

have little impact. Before millions are allocated to “recruiting

inspectors to detect companies and businesses employing

undocumented migrants” malfunctioning systems in Home

Affairs first need to be fixed!

Government needs to prioritise the growth of our economy and

job creation, actually do this and communicate this with South

Africa. The reality is that South Africa can be a country of open

opportunity for all where we can all enjoy the sunshine together,

whether one is South African-born or not.

At last week’s Transport Portfolio Meeting the Minister of

Transport, Dipuo Peters, chastised the Democratic Alliance (DA)

for laying criminal charges against Road Accident Fund (RAF)

CEO, Dr Eugene Watson.

This week the DA laid criminal charges and also wrote to the

Minister requesting for her to launch an investigation into the

RAF and its CEO.

These charges and the letter were as a result of evidence in the

possession of the DA that appears to document large-scale fraud

allegedly taking place at the RAF.

The evidence, in the form of letters from complaint attorneys to

claimants, illustrate how the RAF essentially appears to sue itself

in order to maintain a certain cash flow.

This delays claims made by road crash victims. Based on the

documents leaked to us, as well as investigations that we

undertook, appears to be fraud and injustice at the highest level.

Although the Minister admitted in the Portfolio Committee

Meeting that she had not yet seen the DA’s letter, she reprimanded

the DA members of the Committee for laying the charges and for

even writing to her.

Minister objectsto request

This is of great concern as she is clearly

protecting Eugene Watson without even

considering the evidence that we have

provided her as she claims that the DA is

“governing through the courts and the

police”.

Unbelievably, the Minister stated that any

fraud allegation “should be handled in the

Portfolio Committee and not in courts with

charges and waste the time of police” and

that they (the police) “are going to take

ten years to investigate this case”.

Considering that these statements were

made without being prompted by the DA,

we will be again writing to the Minister

asking her to confirm that, based on what

she said, if she will not be following our

recommendations to launch an investiga-

tion, particularly as she appears to have

made up her mind without considering the

evidence.

If this is indeed the case, we are even more

concerned that she has made such a

decision in such an uninformed manner

and will request her to explain her reasons

for this.

kyk hoe lyk ander se kunswerk of die wat dalk

wil begin om bonsai te kweek is welkom.

Wat is bonsai?

Dit is die miniatuur weergawe van uitgegroeide

volwasse bome, wat in houers versorg word.

Enige plant kan in ‘n houer geplant word en dit

terugsnoei, sodat dit nie groot groei nie, maar

dit is nie bonsai nie.

Daar is erkende bonsai style en die plant moet

‘n miniatuur wees wat soos die volgroeide

boom lyk. Die boompie as geheel en ook die

onderdele van die boompie, is dan in verhou-

ding verklein.

Daar is dus ‘n kleiner stam, kleiner takke en

kleiner blare en die geheel lyk na ‘n natuurlike boom. Bonsai is dan ‘n miniatuur boompie wat jy êrens in die

natuur as volgroeide boom kan raakloop. Bonsai is ‘n kunsvorm sê die kundiges.

Die Egiptenare het reeds ongeveer 2000vC plante soos olyfbome, palms, grasse en lelies in houers van klip

gekweek. Hierdie plante was vir hul vrugte- en medisinale doeleindes en ook kruiewaarde verbruik. So ook

in ou Indië was plante in houers gekweek om hulle maklik te kon vervoer. Dit is eers later jare in China vir

vertoning en genot gebruik.

Tans is bonsai regoor die Westerse wêreld bekend en gewild. Dit behels ‘n verskeidenheid van boompies

waar mense dit as kunswerk bewerk en aanhou. Daar word van die boompies op strate verkoop en die

hoogsontwikkelde pragstukke word by internasionale uitstallings vertoon. Daar is ook diegene wat dit

versamel.

Krieket spelers leer hoe om ‘n bal te rol

by Nigel Rolbal klub tydens die sosiale

sportdag.

Nigel Krieket klub en Nigel rolbal klub het

op 18 April ‘n sosiale sportsdag gehou by

die rolbal klub se bane. Die krieket klub

het ook Saterdag hul jaarlikse algemene

jaarvergadering gehou waar die nuwe

komitee gekies was vir die jaar 2015/

2016.Die hoogtepunt was die prysuitde-

ling, waar krieketspelers vereer was vir

hul harde werk vir die seisoen.

Die voorsitter van die klub, Wouter Kriel

het die verwelkoming behartig en almal

hartlik bedank vir hul teenwoordigheid.

Die president Hennie Stoop het met die

opening die spelers geluk gewens en

gemotiveer om nog beter te speel en die

klub se naam hoog te hou en eenvormig

te lyk as ‘n span.

Die nuwe komitee vir die jaar is president

Hennie Stoop, voorsitter Wouter Kriel,

onder voorsitter Adriaan Prinsloo,

tessourier/sekretaris Riaan Coetzee, klub

kaptein Ruaan Steyn en addisionele lede

is Naseem Tadia, Michael Groenewalt en

Carl Stoop. Hennie Stoop het die oorhan-

diging vandie trofees waargeneem. Die

4de liga span se beste kolwer is Ruaan

Kotze. Bouler is Dwayne Rossouw en

speler van die jaar is Ruaan Kotze.

Die duck trofee word gedeel deur Michael

Viviers en Paul Rademeyer.

Trofeewenners van die 3de liga span is

beste kolwer Martin Pistorius, bouler

Riaan Coetzee, speler van die jaar Martin

Pistorius. Kobus Bosch en Jason Reinecke

deel die duck trofee.

Die 2de liga span se beste kolwer is Morris

as speler van die jaar aangewys is. Ruaan

Ruaan Steyn het die trofees ingepalm as

beste kolwer, bouler en speler van die jaar

vir die 1ste liga span. Hy deel die duck

trofee met Michael Viviers en Rudi

Serfontein. Die junior speler van die jaar

is, Dwayne Rossouw. Riaan Coetzee is as

klub man aangewys. Senior speler van die

jaar is toegeken aan Riaan van Tonder.

Eugene Stoop het 121 tal aangeteken, nie

uit nie.

Adriaan het die bedankings gedoen en vir

Ettienne Uys bedank vir die rolbal klub

se saal wat hul gebruik het. Rochelle de

Wet en Chevonne Scott is bedank vir die

versiering van die tafels en die saal. Ook

dank aan Riaan Coetzee vir sy bydrae met

die reelings. Dankie aan Auto City vir die

borg van die T20 span.

Die rugby spanne van 1995 van Nigel

Rugbyklub hou reünie na 20 jaar.

Afrigters en spelers het bymekaar gekom

en lekker gekuier rondom die vure. Die

manne kon nie ophou praat van al die

hoogtepunte, harde oefeninge en oorwin-

nings van 20 jaar terug nie.

In 1995 was Nigel se eerste span steeds

onoorwonne na 11 wedstryde. Een van die

hoogtepunte was die ligawedstryd op 13

Mei 1995 teen Heidelberg.

Die derdespan wen met ‘n rekord telling

van 65-3. Die tweedespan maak skoonskip

met 18-0 en die eerste span wen hul

wedstryd oortuigend met 31-7.

In Junie 1995 stap die spanne met groot

oorwinnings weg teen Boksburg Korrek-

tiewe Dienste.

Die tweede span wen 36-0 en die eerstes

met 24-17. Beide spanne behaal ook

oorwinnings teenoor Modderbee daardie

jaar.

Tydens hul liga wedstryd teen Atlas wen

die eerstes met 39-6, tweedes 10-5 en die

derdes wen met 22-15.

Die rugbydag op 2 Maart 1996 het gesorg

vir aanskoulike rugby. Ongeveer 12

spanne het die dag kragte gemeet. Nigel

se tweedespan het die dag hul

teenstaanders met 23-15 geklop.

Afrigter, Nico Kirsten vertel dat Nigel se

spanne daardie jaar vyf van ses trofee’s

ingepalm het.

Dis sekerlik die meeste toekennings wat

Nigel Rugbyklub nog behaal het.
