Se trata de 24 viviendas de protección oficial en régimen de

alquiler asequible para la tercera edad, además de un local en

planta baja que pretende adecuarse en un Centro de Día y

Casal, constituyendo de este modo un equipamiento completo.

Este proyecto es uno de los primeros conjuntos de vivienda de

alquiler económico para ancianos impulsados por la Generalitat

de Cataluña para la Tercera Edad. El edificio se concibe como

un único bloque que se fisura en dos partes con el objetivo de

responder adecuadamente a la geometría del terreno y a las

orientaciones, generando al mismo tiempo una plaza en el

chaflán. Se ha proyectado sobre un solar que se halla frente a las

vías del tren, coincidiendo con la mejor orientación solar. El

diseño responde a un bloque compacto y duro de obra vista

esmaltada en blanco que se encara a la calle, al aire y al sol a

partir de cortes perpendiculares a las fachadas, enfoscados en

azul marino. Los núcleos verticales se han cerrado con U-glass de

modo que se ha conseguido dotar de una gran luminosidad a

los espacios comunes. Se ha utilizado una tecnología tradicional

teniendo en cuenta el emplazamiento de la obra; una opción

más económica, racional, y que se nutre de materiales de fácil

mantenimiento como el enfoscado pintado y obra vista que

predice un envejecimiento adecuado.

24 protected housing units at an affordable rent for senior citizens

with the facilities completed by the ground floor being adapted as

a Day Centre. This is one of the first protected housing schemes to

be instigated by Catalonia's autonomous government to provide

low-cost rental accommodation for Senior Citizens. The building is

comprised of a single block divided into two separate sections

with the objective of effectively responding to the geometry of the

local terrain and the orientation of the building as well as a corner

plaza. The building has been designed and located on a plot of

land directly opposite the train line and to coincide with the best

orientation. The design represents a compact and solid block with

a white façade directly onto the street, the air and sunlight coming

in at right angles to the façades finished in a blue mortar. The

vertical centre has been glazed in U-glass providing the com-

munal zones with plenty of natural light. With the project location

taken into account traditional technology has been used for the

construction, this being a more economical and rational option,

based on the use of easy maintenance materials such as painted

mortar to give a suitably aged appearance.

Both types of units have been designed with the terraces taken to be additional space to the living quarters:

the respective sizes allowing these to be used as an extra lounge, admittedly out in the open air, but

something of particular interest in the Mediterranean climate. The lounge and bedroom are both set around

this terrace with the natural extension to both and the ventilation from the patios allowing for the necessary

airflow to provide cross ventilation as well as a natural light source for both the accommodation and the

passages. Interesting without a doubt is the break from the usual greyish uniformity of protected housing

schemes, having avoided the infinite continuity of the passages, creating a space as prevalent as full with

a much larger frame than the door itself to incorporate the filter for the ventilation from the patios providing

the passage with both light and air, as well as establishing colour as the major source of identification for

the each of the apartments, from the entrance doors to the carpentry on the inside.

Las células de ambos tipos se han diseñado a partir de la consideración de las terrazas como un espacio

más de la vivienda: la proporción de éstas permite su utilización como una sala más de la vivienda, eso

sí, al aire libre pero especialmente interesante en el clima mediterráneo. La sala y el dormitorio pivotan

alrededor de esta terraza, la natural expansión de ambos y los patios de ventilación que permiten la

circulación de aire facilitando la ventilación cruzada y la iluminación tanto en vivienda como en los

pasillos. Interesante sin duda es la ruptura de la oficiosa uniformidad grisácea de las viviendas de

protección evitando la continuidad infinita de los pasillos, creando un vacío tan preponderante como el

lleno con un marco mucho más amplio que la propia puerta que incluye el filtro de los patios de

ventilación, dando luz y aire al pasillo; y dando protagonismo al color como sistema de identificación de

las unidades, desde la propia puerta de cada una hasta la carpintería interior.

La residencia de ancianos Multengut ofrece una comodidad yseguridad de primera clase en un entorno diseñado para serfuncional a la vez que cálido. Los dos volúmenes edificados sonsimilares, quizás comparables a los detectives de TintínHernández y Fernández, aunque son específicos vistos desde eldiseño en planta. Definen un espacio externo semejante a unpatio que conforma el centro social del complejo mientras sedisfruta de las vistas de Multengut, que imprimen al complejo sunombre. Este espacio al aire libre se presenta como un lugar dellegada y un jardín para disfrutar y relajarse, tanto para las visitascomo para los residentes: cerezos, setos tallados en formascúbicas, pajareras y juegos de fuentes crean zonas de paseovariables según la época del año.El elemento arquitectónico dominante es la plataforma demadera de casi 90 metros de largo que conforma una soleadaterraza en una gran interpretación de la tradición de los clásicoshoteles alpinos del siglo XIX. El vestíbulo, el comedor, el salón, labiblioteca, el cuarto de la chimenea y el salón de lectura secolocan directamente detrás del porche.

The Multengut Senior Citizen's Residence provides first rate comfortand security in a purposely designed practical and welcomingenvironment. The two buildings are similar in size, perhaps com-parable in a way to Tintin detectives Thomson and Thompson(Dupond and Dupont), although there are certain aspects specificto each floor plan. There's an area outside which could be definedas something of a courtyard and actually the social centre for thecomplex which also enjoys views over Multengut, from where thecomplex takes its name. This outdoor setting represents a wel-coming zone as well as a garden, a place to relax and enjoy forboth the residents and their visitors with cherry trees, box hedges,aviaries, and display fountains, all to create a different setting totake a stroll at different times of year. The most dominant architectural feature is the raised woodenplatform, almost 90 metres long, creating a sun terrace very muchin the keeping with the traditional style of the classic alpine hotelsfrom the nineteenth century. The vestibule, dining room, sittingroom, library, the fireplace room and the reading room are all justbehind the veranda.

The typical and sequential character of these rooms as well as the endlessfully glazed frontage also establishes an explicit reference to the fascinatingworld of the social zones in these hotels, and in particular to the types ofveranda, as in the one at the Hotel Schatzalp in Davos, which achieved famethrough the novel entitled The Magic Mountain written by Thomas Mann. A passage runs all the way round the basement to connect both wings of thebuilding as well as the installations rooms and the wellness centre, the laundry,the massage and the music rooms, also located along this same passage.Roof lights bring natural light into these rooms to eliminate any sensation ofbeing in confined spaces or underground. The blue spotlights next to thecentral lifts clearly indicate the access into both buildings. Together with thepassage these spotlights form the focal point of the complex and serve as anaid to orientation both inside and outside the two buildings.

El carácter tipológico y secuencial de estos espacios así como el puro einterminable frente de ventanas, forjan también una referencia explícita alfascinante mundo de los espacios sociales en estos hoteles, y en particulara las tipologías de porches como el del Hotel Schatzalp en Davos, queconsiguió la fama por la novela de Thomas Mann, La Montaña Mágica.Un pasaje que circula por el sótano une tanto alas del edificio como lassalas de instalaciones y la zona de wellness; la lavandería, el cuarto demasajes y el de música se sitúan también a lo largo de este pasillo. Loslucernarios de la azotea permiten que la luz natural fluya hacia estosespacios eliminando cualquier sensación de espacio cerrado o bajo tierra.Cañones de luz azul junto al núcleo de ascensores marcan definitivamentelos pasos que conducen hacia ambos edificios. Conjuntamente al pasaje,forman la espina del complejo y sirven de ayuda para orientarse tantodentro como fuera de los dos edificios.

The accommodation floors are based on a doublecorridor system with East and West facing two bedroomapartments either side, with three bedroom apartmentsat the end of each block. Light for the colourful insidepassage comes from the open stairwells as well as beinglit by the spotlights.

Los niveles residenciales están basados en un sistemade doble pasillo cargado con apartamentos de dos ha-bitaciones a ambos lados, que enfrentan Este y Oeste, ydispone de apartamentos de tres habitaciones en laspuntas de cada bloque. El colorido circuito interior seilumina mediante la transparencia de las escaleras a lavez que se sirve también de los cañones de luz.
