RESIDENCE All students at Ridley are members of one of ten “Houses”, each boarding approx. 35 students. Separate houses are designated for boys and girls. Typically two boarders and one day student share a room. Each boarder has his/her own bed, desk and closet. There are washrooms and bathing facilities on each floor of each residence. All houses have a common room equipped with a TV for student use. All residences offer computer network capabilities in the rooms and common room for students to access the local-area network. Ridley offers a laundry and dry-cleaning service, and in addition there are laundry machines and electronic dryers in the basements of each house for students. A Housemaster who lives in his or her own home which is attached to the residence supervises each house, and acts as a mentor and parent to the students in his/her house. The Schmon Medical Centre offers medical attention for boarders.

ACADEMIC CURRICULUM The school operates on a linear school system and the year is divided into 3 terms: Michaelmas (September - December), Lent (January – March) and Trinity (April –June).

Middle School (grades 7-8): The role of the Middle School is to nurture children through their early stages of development and set the foundations of who they will become. Each grade is a community with a team of teachers working together for a common goal. Seven classes are scheduled daily in the areas of English, Geography, History, Mathematics, Science, Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Physical Education, Design & Technology, French and Guidance.

Upper School (grades 9-12) & PG/Post Graduate year: The core programme is designed to ensure that each student is introduced to a wide variety of disciplines and receives a well-rounded education in preparation for post-secondary education. Courses are taught on a 4-day rotation, with six 55-minute periods scheduled daily. Wednesdays and Saturdays are half-days with classes in the mornings only. Students select classes in the areas of English, Languages (French, German, Latin, Spanish), Mathematics, Sciences, Geography, History, Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Computer Technology, Business and Physical Education. AP courses are available.

The PG (Post-Graduate) year offers students the chance to pursue an exceptional extra year of pre-university studies. As of September 2012, Ridley offers the IB Diploma programme for students in grades 11-12.

COMPUTERS / LAPTOPS LAPTOP: MANDATORy Ridley students are required to use a school-designated laptop. Middle school students lease for the year, while high school students must purchase their own. Homework assignments, research and class projects are completed using the laptop. Purchases or leases must be made from Ridley College, and include a TigerFact software bundle. This ensures that all computers are the correct model and are properly formatted and fitted to comply with the school’s Intranet.

ESL The school’s ability to provide students with special attention allows Ridley to welcome international students with a solid level of ESL proficiency but who may require some ESL support. Students applying for senior level grades (grades 11 and 12) should possess an advanced level of English to succeed in the challenging academic curriculum. Upon arrival, students are assessed for their reading, listening, speaking, writing and comprehension abilities. Additional charges will be applied for this programme and billed directly to the student’s personal school account.

SPORTS AND ExTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIvITIES participation: mandatory Participation in sports and extra-curricular activities is a mandatory component of the academic life. Each term students are required to choose both a physical and social activity and may choose either competitive sports or an intramural programme. Ridley’s 89 acres of school property including a year-round ice rink, numerous playing fields, indoor swimming pool and squash courts, gymnasium, art and music rooms and newly renovated theatre allow students to excel in all sports and arts.
