    Research Methodology

In todays competitive world detail study is required in each of the

practical problems. Research means search for facts in order to find out the

answers to certain problems. Any effort which is directed towards that detail

    study is known as Research.

A system of models, procedures and techniques used to find out the

results of a research problem is called as Research Methodology.

Business Executives in each of the functional areas face decision

making problems. Some of these problems include :

New product launch, Sales promotion, Plant layout, plant location, capital budgeting, manpower planning etc.

Many of these problems demand systematic research.

    The Research Process -:

    1) Problem Definition - The first step in research process is to identify

and define the research problem. Initially the researcher may state the

problem in a broad general way after resolving ambiguities. Theresearcher must verify all available literature to make him familiar

with the research problem. Such review of literature would enable the

researcher to know the data and other materials that are available for

operational purpose, which in turn would help the researcher to

specify the research problem more specifically.

    2) Objective - After defining the problem objective of the research

should be made. The objective should be clearly stated for the

    research.

    3) Research Design - The researcher should undertake research design.

The research design is the grand plan for conducting the research

investigation. It provides guidelines to researcher to enable him to

keep track of his actions and to know that he is moving in the right

    direction in collecting the data.

    4) Data collection - Problem solving is essentially a process or collecting

information. The data can be collected from various sources i.e

primary and secondary. While collecting data care should be taken of

Information is up-to date and free from bias, It is objective and

relevant to the needs of problem, It is complete in all respects.

    5) Data Analysis - The purpose of analyzing data is to establish a relation

between the information and problem. Analysis reviews the data in

the light of hypothesis or research problem. It is difficult to demarcate

a line between analysis and interpretation. Interpretation refers to

analysis and generalization of results. It enables to clear the meaning

and implication of study. It enables to link findings with research

problem and arrive at logical conclusions.

    6) Results - Results can be found out after analyzing and interpretation

of the data. It can be test with the help of hypothesis testing. The

researcher should find out whether or not the research findings

support the hypothesis or prove to be contrary. Various tests such as

Chi-Square test; F-Test, etc. have been developed for such testing.

The testing of hypothesis will result in either accepting it or rejecting

    it.

    7) Validation of results - Finding out the results is not only important

factor. Results should be compared with the previous results. The

    results should be properly validated.

The hypothesis which we have taken for study

H0: Students do not consider any criteria's other than DTE procedurewhile taking admission into Management College.

H1: Students do consider some criteria's other than DTE procedurewhile taking admission into Management College.

The primary data was collected by us by way of questionnaire. The three

institutes which were studying are BGISMS, Willingham, IMCOST, and

W.N.BRIMS. The sample size of the students was 30 students from each

    institute.

    1) Do you like the procedure of admission of DTE i.e. of MMS?

Ans: The first question which we had asked in our questionnaire was that

whether they liked the procedures of admission of the DTE. For this

question 63% people said yes they liked the procedures of DTE and the

remaining 37% people said no. In this the reason for no was that many of the

people who were from outside Maharashtra were finding it difficult tobalance between the GD/PI dates and the document verification date and

many other people had lost their postal receipt which was considered as an

important document for admission procedure, and now to make the duplicate

one they had to undergo a long procedure of making an application, getting

it signed by the post master etc.

    2) Give your remarks on the following criteria.

Written test, Group discussion, Personal interview, Presentations and

    projects.

Ans: This was the second question in which we had asked the people to

give percentage wise remarks on the following criteria. As expected written

test got the highest marks as it was having more marks then the other three.

Written score got 57% preference GD and Pi got 19% and 15% each and the

last one i.e. projects and presentations which were actually for the PG

courses got the least preference of 9%.

    3) Does the distance factor matter to you while taking admission in the

    college?

Ans: To perceive an MBA degrees from a reputed institute people do

not consider the distance factor so much. They usually prefer those institute

which are nearby to their home. Here in this case 62% said that no, distance

factor doesnt matter to them and the remaining 38% said that yes, distance

factor do matter to them as the whole day they are in the institute and if the

institute is far away from their residence they will reach home late. Mostlyfemale

Students prefer college in close proximity.

    college?

Ans: As expected 89% people said that yes they have made an inquiry

about the past placement records of the institute as placement does really

    MANAGEMENT INSITUTE:

Ans: When this question was asked 81% of the students says yes and

remaining 19% said no and they were of the view that facility of the

    8) WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT DIFFERENT CRITERIA

Ans: There were different options given to students and they have give

preference according to their liking so 56% students preferred placements,

19% students preferred faculty, 15% preferred infrastructure,8% preferred

fees and remaining preferred distance as one of its factor for joining the

institute. When fee structure was asked individually and the answer was they

give preference to fee structure as well. . But when they have to give

preference then placement was given first preference and fee structure was

    given 4th place.

    ANY MANAGEMENT INSITUTE

Ans: For this question 60% prefer to consult their seniors, 27% consult their

friends, 8% of students consult relatives, 10% pick their colleges because of

So we come to conclusion from these four questions that student now days

look for placements of the college and they spend their money very well so

that they could get some output after investing money.

    10) Have you considered background of Director and Faculty?

Ans: When we asked students about their opinion on Director and faculty

while taking admission we got following Results.

76% students have considered the background. Director is main person in

the college. The Cos which are coming for Placements also considers his

background. His Background gives image to the college in the market. Ifdirector is well known more and more students will take admission and more

    Cos will come for placements.

If he is well educated he can give a new direction to the institute

and students. He can guide them about the subject and also about practical

aspects in the industry. Faculty also plays a important role. In management

we dont have external coaching available so; we are totally dependent on

college faculty. If they are properly trained then only they can guide the

students properly and can able to solve their problems.

    12) What type of college you are willing to get in?

Ans: The College which gives the following features -

    Good Placement

    Good Infrastructure

    Trained Faculty

    Traveling Connectivity

Students mainly expects good placement as they have spend a lot in terms of

college fees and other. The main aim of every student is placement only.

Good infrastacture is also necessary as we hag to spend a whole day in

college. So if the college lacks basic facilities like IT, canteen, books then

students will be in a trouble.

Traveling connectivity is also important as students are coming not only

from Mumbai but from all over the India. Also local students find it better if

college is located near station as it saves their time.

    1. Placements2. Infrastructure

    3. Stuff

    4. Parking facility

When we asked students about improvements we got common answers.

IMCOST students are not satisfied with whatever they have. They want

    improvement in all four.

    5. V.N.BRIMS want improvement in infrastructure like IT, canteenetc. and in placements.

    6. Welingker students are happy with whatever they have.

    CHI-SQUARE TEST

H0 Students do not consider any criteria's while taking

    admission into Management College.

H1 Students do consider some criteria while taking admission into

    Management College.

    Degree of Freedom = 10 - 1= 9

Then apply Chi- square @ 5% level of significance

    We get, from table,

    Total value = 16.92

Now we know that calculated value = 37.8

So, calculated value > table value

    37.8 > 16.92

    Hence,

Null hypothesis Ho is rejected and alternative hypothesis is

    accepted

    Thus H1 is accepted.

    CONCLUSION

By chi square we come to the conclusion that most of

the students do consider some criteria for taking

    admission into the management college.
