RNC Monitoring Counters
You can monitor some counters of the RNC object and display the number and details of overrun and
transitional counters in the selected monitoring counters on the RNC. In this way, you can obtain the
information about the performance of current RNC monitored groups.
NOTE:
The centralized network monitoring function can monitor the performance for creating the RNC or BSC6900
UMTS and their corresponding cells, which facilitates the monitoring of object performance. If you need to
use the performance monitoring function, the monitored group must be composed of RNCs or BSC6900
UMTSs, respectively. The combination of RNCs and BSC6900 UMTSs is not supported.
When creating monitored groups, you can select the counters to be monitored in the group and set the upper
and lower limits and transitional values of each monitoring counter. The overrun counters refer to the counters
whose values are greater than the upper limit or smaller than the lower limit. The transitional counters refer to
the counters whose difference of two successive values is greater than the transitional value. The system
collects statistics on overrun counters and transitional counters in real time so that you can know the
performance status of the current monitored group.
Table 1describes the RNC monitoring counters. You can click the related pane on the monitoring panel, andthen view the overrun performance counters or transitional counters in the counter list in the lower part of the
window.
Table 1 RNC Monitoring Counters
Counter Name Definition
RRC Connection Setup Success
Rate(service)The number of successful RRC connections/the number of RRC
connection set up requests received by the RNC x 100%
NOTE:
The number of RRC setup requests refers to the number ofrequests for initiating services.
AMR RAB Assignment Success Rate The number of "AMR RB setup complete" messages received
by the RNC from the UE and the RAB assignment responses
sent by the RNC to the CN/the number of AMR RAB
assignment requests received by the RNC from the CN x 100%
Where:
UE: User Equipment
CN: Core Network
RB: Radio Bearer
VP RAB Setup Success Rate The number of "VP RB setup complete" messages received by
the RNC from the UE and the RAB assignment responses sent
by the RNC to the CN/the number of VP RAB assignment
requests received by the RNC from the CN x 100%
PS RAB Assignment Success Rate The number of "PS RB setup complete" messages received by
the RNC from the UE and the RAB assignment responses sent
by the RNC to the CN/the number of PS RAB assignment
requests received by the RNC from the CN x 100%

CS Inter-RAT Handover Success
Rate(from UTRAN to GSM)The number of successful inter-system handovers in CS
domain/the number of inter-system handover attempts in CS
domain x 100%
The number of inter-system handover attempts in
CS domain is the number RELOCATION
REQUIRED messages sent by the RNC to the CN.
The number of successful inter-system handovers in
CS domain is the number of IU RELEASE
COMMAND messages received by the RNC. Thevalue of the reason in the IU RELEASE COMMAND
message must be Successful Relocation.
PS Inter-RAT Handover Success
Rate(from UTRAN to GSM)The number of successful inter-system handovers in PS
domain/the number of inter-system handover attempts in PS
domain x 100%
The number of inter-system handover attempts in
PS domain is the number of CELL CHANGE
ORDER FROM UTRAN messages sent by the RNC
to the UE.
The number of successful inter-system handovers inPS domain is the number of IU RELEASE
COMMAND messages received by the RNC. The
value of the reason in the IU RELEASE COMMAND
message must be Normal Release.
