Dear Lord,
May those assembled here today enjoy the
many offerings of Rotary. May we abide by the
rules we have established, those of trust,
fellowship and ethics, and may we place
Service above Self, in our daily endeavours.
And may we always test ourselves and our
efforts to be sure they are the truth, good for all
concerned, of benefit to mankind, and provide
peace and understanding.
Amen

ONE THERE WAS A LOVE By Jose Feliciano
Once there was a love.
Deeper than any ocean
Once there was a love
filled with such a devotion.
It was yours and mine.
To hold and cherish
and to keep for a life time.
Then you went away
on the lonely day
Once there was a love
Now I don't know how I can go on
Some how I feel so all alone.
Wondering where I've gone wrong.
Once there was a love
that will never come again
So let's not pretend.
Once there was a love
But that was long ago.
Now I don't know how I can go on
Somehow I feel so all alone.
Wondering where I've gone wrong.
Once there was a love
that will never come again
So let's not pretend.
Once there was a love
But that was long ago.

Pres. Ner P. Laiño
Fellow Pasig Rotarians:
There were only twenty seven (27) members who were able to
attend the first dinner-fellowship meeting last July 30 which was
the last Thursday of the month. We expected more to have
attended but there were the earthquake drills all over Metro Manila
which caused the heavy traffic that three (3) of our members
texted me they could not come. I expected the three (3) city
councillors who have committed to be members of our club to
attend but were unable to attend because that they must have been
busy in the earthquake drills they being public officials.
In that meeting last Thursday (July 30) PP Rel and PP Conrad
discussed our golf tournament fund raising activity and both of
them emphasized that our annual dues will not be enough to fund
our different activities which will involve a total expenditure of
P1.2M. At this point, please note that our membership dues if all
members (now 81) will pay will only be P972,000.00. But there
are two (2) members who already donated P67,000.00 and this
amount when added to the P972,000.00, will total P1,039,000.00
although I expect about three (3) members will no longer pay. We
are giving separately to our high school and PLP college
scholarships and this is the reason why I am always saying that the
reduced annual membership dues of P12,000.00 will be enough to
cover our annual expenses. I am, however, very much of the
opinion that we really need more funds to spend for the many
activities that we are undertaking and this compelled me to ask PP
Conrad, PP Rel and PP Ducky, PP Jun Zafra etc. to help in raising
more funds. I also do not want PE Ogie, PN Doc Aga and PND
Sec. John to inherit debts incurred during my term. I just do not

want to leave behind any accountabilities to be paid for by
succeeding presidents.
Our board of directors met in the evening of August 4 and the
important matters that we discussed and agreed upon thereafter
were the following:
1) That we should in the meantime have at least one (1) fund
raising activity and this is the golf fund raising activity on
September 28, 2015. We will be giving to members the
solicitation letters on our August 13, 2015 meeting. At this
point in time, I am appealing to all my fellow RC Pasig
Rotarians to give me their full support. I expect there will
no longer be collections starting January 2016 and until
June 30, 2016. I just hope we can collect at least 98% of
our receivables on the membership dues, the P3,000.00
induction fees and the ads in our souvenir program.
2) The umbrella giving will finally proceed on August 13
10:00AM and this will be at our GK village. There will
also be some lectures on disaster control. From the GK
village, we will proceed to have our lunch meeting at the
place which will be announced today, August 6, 2015. I
remember that having our meetings at the place of our
projects was suggested by PP Vic Aquino and meetings
thereafter in another place was suggested by PP Jing Jose.
Incidentally, I will attend the Ilugin Community Congress
on August 6 which will be from 9AM to 10AM. I hope
Doc Aga can brief us some more on this subject and also
on the water lily project.

Continuation 2.
3) An ad-hoc committee to be headed by PE Ogie was created
by the board and this committee will recommend the venue
of the anniversary celebration and the other important
details connected therewith at the next board meeting. It
was, however, emphasized that the affair will not be
bonga-bonga.
4) PND Sec. Peter John Javier and PE Ogie were asked to
continue taking care of the RHS and PLP scholarships. PE
Ogie, PND Sec. John and PP Ducky agreed they will go
together to the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP)
sometime next week to see Dr. April Alcazar, president of
the PLP.
5) PND Sec. John was also asked to take care of the plane
arrangements of the RC Pasig Rotarian who will go to
Korea to attend the RI World Convention scheduled on
May 28, 2016 to June 1, 2016.
6) Upon suggestion of Director-Treasurer Dennis Albano and
Rtn Albert Mendiola, payments of our food consumption
during regular meetings will be on cash basis. If cash
payments to food consumed will not be enough, RC Pasig
will have to shoulder the additional cost from the petty
cash fund. This new arrangement is believed to be more
practical.
Finally, let us all be gifts to the world.

Our first evening meeting had a better attendance percentage. Only
a handful left earlier but we had more than 2.5 hours, for the
record, of a fruitful meeting.
Frustrated accountant, WCP Ner, again toyed with figures and his
projections for the club. He is targeting a minimum of half a
million excess funds by end of his term. How about the payables
that you, and, presidents before you, inherited. Mag-balance ka
lang, without a generous amount to heir apparent Ogie will be an
excellent gift.
A test of Christian concern hit our club with the demise of PP
Rody as some who were affected by his exploits before could not
really be that forgiving. For the ARAP, Charter President Sally
Hernando, the widow of the late Benny, the original charger and
charter member who served as VP of our club, attended to the
family from cremation to the place of the daily Masses. Gigi
Carlos was a sparkplug as well. The first day Mass novena had PP
Rhett, with PPA Belle and Sammy. I went out of our night
meeting to be there too. Luckily, traffic was light and I had a
chance to catch up with our meeting, and, saw a briefer SONA
from WCP Ner, but long enough to cover many grounds.
Rtn. Ike had some suggestions and he agreed to attend the Board
meeting last Tuesday. Surprisingly, Rtn. Paolo, son of Ray had
some good suggestions too.
Thru the proddings of PP Conrad, Rtn. Bob Peterson attended. He
is in a transition once again as the American Company who hired
him just decided to stop the new Philippine operations. With his
talent, getting a new job is just a matter of time.

Congratulations to baby Rotarian Raj who has perfect attendance
since induction. However, the two councilors are showing the
same trends when we had the late Obet Barreto and Mapua Coach
Atoy Co.
If there is one who would like an evening meeting, our Ed Sambeli
was with his favourite niece one again. The fact that she attended
no less than 6 meetings and one fellowship must show she is truly
a dedicated niece.
The nest message for financial assistance sounded by WCP Ner is
truly commendable as when he came in, PP Rody was going out.
They did not have a chance to interact. Ner must have been
affected by the ones who attended the third day of Mass for Rody.
PDG Raffy said he would attend the Board meeting scheduled last
Tuesday as he was scheduled to leave the very next day for his
various Rotary and business commitments. He had some
suggestions last Club Assembly. Rtn. Chony who stayed till past
10:00 p.m. was amused that PE Ogie supposedly denied an AIM
honor being given him. He had one drink too many. Chony was
telling us how lucky we are to have Raffy with us with his
generosity. But PP Conrad was quick to add that Chony just
signed a MOA with U.P. about a Php 50 million building he is
donating to the “University that gave him his first college
education with no fee whatsoever”. If he excelled also in AIM,
could it be because of his good training at the University?
The activity at Ilugin this morning could be a very good one to
show the community that what every Dr. Jess commits for the
community is considered a done deal. WCP Ner went to there to
make the assurance. Thursday breakfast is a booked time slot for
me.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE
K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran
President 2015-16
August 2015
In the 1930s, Ole Kirk Christiansen, a
Danish carpenter, had a wooden sign hanging on his wall that read,
Det bedste er ikke for godt: "Only the best is good enough."
Today, Christiansen is remembered as the inventor of Lego, the
colorful plastic bricks beloved by children around the world. But
in the early days of the Lego company, its signature product was a
wooden duck – one built to the highest standards, out of aged
beech, with three coats of clear varnish. Lego's company history
tells how Christiansen used his ducks to teach a lesson in quality
to his son, Godtfred Kirk:
One evening, when I came into the office, I said to my father: "It's
been a good day today, Dad. We've earned a little more." "Oh,"
said Dad, "what do you mean?" "Well, I've just been to the station
with two boxes of our toy ducks for the Danish Co op. Normally
they get three coats of varnish, but since it's for the Co-op, I only
gave them two. So I saved the business a bit of money." He looked
at me in dismay. "Godtfred, fetch those boxes back. Unpack them
and give the ducks another coat of varnish. You're not going to bed
until the work's done – and you'll do it all on your own." There
was no arguing with Dad. And it was a lesson for me about what
quality meant.

Continuation 1.
Today, Lego's quality standards are legendary, and its products are
the most popular toys in the world: Lego pieces outnumber
humans 86 to 1.
We all recognize that this success stems directly from Lego's
business practices – its insistence on quality, efficiency, and
innovation. I compare this with our efforts in governance and
accountability in Rotary, and realize that sometimes we fall short
of the standards expected.
The leaders at the Rotary International, zone, district, and club
levels have to maintain the highest standards in governance. The
RI president and directors must serve the membership in a
meaningful manner; zone leaders must deliver on the investment
Rotary makes in them; district leaders must provide dynamic
leadership in the district and focus on transparency in accounting
and timely reporting of financials; and club leaders must adhere to
proper reporting functions and get their clubs onto Rotary Club
Central.
Just as Christiansen refused to consider sending a lesser product to
any of his clients, so should we refuse to consider giving a lesser
effort to any of our work. We must always demand the best of
ourselves – in our professional lives, and especially in our Rotary
work.
For in Rotary, what is our product? It is not wooden ducks or
plastic bricks. It is education, water, health, and peace. It is hope,
and it is life itself. For this work, only our best is good enough. I
ask you all to remember this – and to do your very best to Be a
Gift to the World.
