My thanks to Shelley and Jack, Hartley, Smokey, Bob McK, Mal, Craig, Jim, and Peter vd M. If you count these, and add me, you get to 10 members, when our specific request was for 12. Much thanks to the 2 Rotary members who came in at short notice, and gave us the necessary manpower. Our membership numbers are surely high enough for us to have 12 people for 3 hours to carry out our only fundraiser of the year - yes, 3 hours per year is all we need! Twelve members is all we need! The funds earned will obviously be shared with the Rotary Club - a shame we have to do this, but we have to be fair, and without them we could not have fulfilled our obligations. Please prepare yourselves for this duty in 2017. The other option is to advise the Vintage and Veteran Club that we can’t help them, and look for another fund raiser! I doubt that there is an easier one! Even though the weather can sometimes be a bit inclement still, please try to get on the winter runs that are being organised for you. A lot of work can go into these excursions, and it is a recognition of this work to ride along and enjoy them. Similarly, how about a few extra ideas from you for different destinations. I am sure you have some preferred places outside town where you can have a good coffee/tea and chat, and a good ride getting there. I am due at a Coordinator’s meeting in Wellington in October. If you have any subject or idea that you want raised in that forum, let me know. At this stage, being a new coordinator, I am interested in listening only, and picking up any actions that may work for us here in Rotorua. You will all be pleased to know that the hand of Des Far North has healed well, not even a scar. With all the protection on it, it was warmer than his good hand on his ride home from Okataina. I understand his leg, though, is still a bother, and he may need further attention on it. Those of you going to the Far North Rally can get more info. See you on Sunday evening. Come prepared for anything! Cheers, Flash #1272 Well, the weather hasn’t been very conducive to motorbike riding since the last time I put out this Newsletter four weeks ago. I guess this time of the year we have to expect rain, wind, cold temperatures and the like. I was reading in the paper last night that the temperature in Kuwait, surged on Friday to a blistering 54ᵒ. My brother Ross, who lives in Maroochydore, Australia, loves coming back to New Zealand in the winter to get a feel of what one of our four seasons are like again. Thank you “Axle” for your photos taken at this year’s Swap Meet. You were one of the parking wardens in the bitter weather but once again on the wrong side of the lens so this time I’ve given you a special part on the page. Could this be Jack B’s new trike?

No bikes or trikes at the coffee morning 23rd – too cold or too windy for you softies? At least the banner goes up each Saturday now! Gossip has it that the Pirongia ride was all fog and icy cold – can’t have been the same members that had coffee on the 23rd! I was directed magnificently by parking control when I went to the Swap Meet at the Stock Car Track to buy more junk for Mrs Thingertoo to complain about. Damn cold and a bit wet at 6.45 am. Bit better when I left at 10 am, but through you all you looked as if you were enjoying yourselves? I see you are advertising your Saturday morning coffees in the local rag – looking for more bikers eh? I hear Stuart is using his free time productively, going on weekday excursions on the beemer. I hear Pete’s Honda is still undergoing repairs. Damage must have been more extensive than I was told. Pete & Lynn will be fixed before the trike is!
