enthusiasm, dogged proJect and quality management, active solicitation of feedback, collective

problem-solving, transparent decision making, developmental mentoring, reliability, flexibility' and

dedication. Having made his indelible mark on the Essentiols series, he stayed on to shepherd the

transition of the series to Alex.

Linda Bird (AlM Series Editor and author of both PowerPoint Essentiols books) and Robert

Ferrett (co-author of Office Essentrols, all three Access Essentiols books, and of the related Leom

series) made significant contributions to enhancing the concept and details of the new series.

A newcomer to the series but not to educational publishing, Keith Mulbery seized increasing

ownership of Essentiols and undertook the initiative of presenting the series at the April 1999

National Business Education Association Convention.

Alex von Rosenberg, Executive Editor, manages the Computer Applications publishing Program

at Prentice Hall (PH). The PH team has been instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition of the

Essentrols series. Alex has been ably assisted in this transition by Susan Rifl<in, Managing Editoc

Leanne Nleglos, Assistant Editor; Jennifer Surich, Editorial Assistant; Nancy Evans, Director

of Strategic Marketing; Kris King, Senior Marketing Manager; and Nancy Welcher, Media Project

Manager.

Operations Manager Christine Moos and Senior Editor Karen Walsh worked hard with

Sunthar and Alex to allow authors maximum flexibility to produce a quality product, while trying to

maintain a tight editorial and production schedule. They had the unenviable task of keeping the

book processes rolling while managing the complex process of transitioning the series to Prentice

Hall. Book Designer Louisa Klucznik and Consultant Elizabeth Keyes spared no efforts in

making every detail of the new design attractive, usable, consistent and appropriate to the

Essenriols pedagogy. foyce Nietsen, Jan Snyder, Asit Patel, Nancy Sixsmith, and

Susan Hobbs-freelancers who had worked on eadier editions of the fusentiols and the related

Leom series in various editorial capacities-helped ensure continuity in procedures and conventions.

Tim Tate, Sherri Fugit, Melody Layne, and Cindy Fields also asked sharp questions along

the way and thereby helped us refine and crystallize the editorial conventions for the Essentrols'

project Editor Tim Tate and Copy Editor Sydney Jones put it all together at the end of the

Drocess. Deborah Brown and Theresa Keller helped out during some of the usability testing

phases on many of the protects in this book

Thanks to Marianne Fox and Larry Metzelaar for taking on the series editorship and doing

a great job, even though it must have been far more work than they could ever have imagined.

They rendered yeoman's service during many sleepless nights of usability testing for this book
