The venue at Maesteg was deemed to be neutral but with Caernarfon travelling for five hours and
the opposition Seven Sisters with less than half an hour’s journey it leads to a question of fairness in
deciding on the venue!
The game was a hard affair with Caernarfon controlling the first 20 but unable to make it count. The
Seven Sisters no 8 Cari Bowen-Davies broke through some weak tackling to put no 9 and captain
Bev Mainwaring through for the first score of the afternoon. Another 2 tries by Jami Davies and
Cari Bowen-Davies saw Seven Sisters lead 17-0 on the half.
Unfortunately for Caernarfon a first minute try gave Seven Sisters an extra cushion and the power
of Seven Sisters paid dividends to take the score to 24-0 and another easy try made the game safe.
Caernarfon would not give up, and eventually Lauren Hassett ran well over 80 meters to put
Caernarfon on the scoreboard and this led to great pressure by the Cofis in the last 10 minutes but it
did not bear fruit and the game ended with Seven Sisters 31-5 winners.
This game will also be remembered as the farewell match for 2 stalwarts of Caernarfon Ladies.
Both Kate Jones and Eurwen Williams will be hanging up their boots after over 10 years of service
to the Cofis Ladies team and Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon. Kate and Eurwen’s tackle count during the
game was as always - phenomenal with Kate making more than one try saving tackle. The team will
also loose scrum half Olwyn Jones who is returning home to New Zealand but has threatened to
return! All the team and the back room team wish Katie, Eurs and Olwyn well. It was also an
occasion to savour for Mary Atkinson who had her first run out on the wing for Caernarfon and
enjoyed some thumping tackles.
The experience of their first season will certainly bode well for Caernarfon next season when they
will be playing in a new league structure to be announced soon.

look at Level Two, especially those working with
Under 12 upwards.
We will be running some “Towards Level 3”
workshops Summer through Autumn for those
considering the 2012 Level Three course intake.

undertake Level Two first would need to attend this

In each age group, the announcement of the prizewinners by minis chairman John Millington was eagerly awaited with awards for coaches’ player of the season, most improved player and the players’ player of the season.
For the under sevens side most improved went to Fiontann McCann and coaches’ player was named as Garrett Healy. The players voted for William Cottle.
In the U8s the players plumped for Tommy Ellis while most improved was earned by Daniel Bell. Ewan Denton got the coaches’ award.
Sam Harrison caught the coaches’ eye for the U9s while the players believed Monty Roberts deserved their plaudits.
Most improved was Harry Wellington.
The development of Andy Cowling was recognised with a most improved award for the U10s, while James Brown was out of sight as far as the coaching staff were concerned as he earned their favour.
Aaron Evans was named players’ player of the year.
In the U11s, Kieron Roberts’ contribution was praised with the players’ award and Harry Robinson stood out for the coaches. Zack Jones was named most improved.
Finally in the U12s Ieuan Roberts emerged as the player who had come on the most to win most improved while the club coaches rewarded Freddie Jones and the final players’ player award of the evening went to James Ashcroft.
Mold Minis enjoy end of season presentation night
The club also highlighted those players who had represented North Wales and North East Wales at U12s and U11s and the individual and team performances which led to major tournaments wins at U9s and U8s – which included Seth Geary winning best sportsman for the U8s – and notable wins for Mold’s emerging stars in the U7s.

RHYL YOUTH 14 v RUTHIN YOUTH 30
Ruthin Youth sewed up the North Wales double with a hard fought 30-14 Youth Cup final win at Denbigh.
The young Blues, already North Wales League champions, were always just too good for a big and dogged Rhyl side who competed well but lacked the cutting edge to cause Ruthin real problems.
This wasn’t one of Ruthin’s vintage displays but they did enough and they were ruthless in taking their chances – when they got into the scoring zone they always came away with something.
Full back Shay Tudor finished with 15 points, scoring a try, two conversions and two penalties.
Ruthin manager Tony Lloyd hailed his side. “They’ve had a tremendous season,” he said. “They’ve done the league and cup double in North Wales and they reached the Welsh Youth Championship final.
“They’ve done it playing really good rugby too and this is a fitting way for their season to end and a tribute to them and their coach, Jim Salisbury.”
