The Free Space STudio iS an incluSive and SupporTive viSual arTS STudio projecT FocuSed on The developmenT oF STudio SkillS For young people wiTh diSabiliTieS. ThroughouT 2014 The Free Space STudio haS been houSed aT the darwin communiTy arTS; chamberS creScenT TheaTre. The ouTcome oF ThiS projecT iS To promoTe The public recogniTion oF The arTS pracTiceS oF arTiSTS wiTh diSabiliTieS Through ThiS exhibiTion and accompanying exhibiTion caTalogue.
ThiS year wiTh The SupporT oF arTS nT, Darwin communiTy arTS, The ciTy oF darwin and liFe wiThouT barrierS, The Free Space STudio haS underTaken a 30-week SkillS-developmenT workShop program, including workShopS in painTing, drawing,T-ShirT deSign and prinTing. The STudio projecTS covered in ThiS workShop SerieS have provided The arTiSTS wiTh The opporTuniTy To work in a wide varieTy oF mediumS.
The Free Space STudio haS proven To be a buSy and Thriving creaTive work Space in 2014. parTicipanTS have been encouraged To Find Their parTicular mediumS oF inTereST wiThin The program and perSonal creaTive deciSionS are encouraged wiTh regard To STudio pracTice. The arTiSTS have learnT independenT STudio SkillS, which will enable Them To deFine Their own creaTive pracTice.
ThiS exhibiTion iS compiled From a SelecTion oF new workS produced in 2014 by The arTiSTS From The Free Space STudio, and whaT a remarkable and producTive year we have had in The STudio! The arTiSTS have oFTen laboured over their workS For many weekS aT a Time To bring Them To compleTion. in my view, The qualiTy, deTail, vibrancy and humour in The workS Truly Speak For The TalenTS oF The arTiSTS. For many oF The Free Space STudio arTiSTS The capaciTy For verbal communicaTion iS limiTed, ThereFore, The complex and expreSSive picTorial communicaTion achieved Through ThiS body oF new work, iS SaTiSFying To behold. TheSe workS repreSenT a plaTForm For a deeper Two-way communicaTion For arTiSTS wiTh diSabiliTieS, which iS oF greaT value To The wider communiTy, arTiSTS and audienceS alike.
