A2: LandscapeTask 1: Painting Preperations
● Before you commence your main outcome, you should plan out your work bycreating a smaller version of your work, inside your sketchbook.
● Source/find and collect a range of landscape pictures.
● Present all of your pictures as an image board using a full page.
● Select one of you images to use for your own painting and annotate it with therules of perspective:

Task 2: Painting Practice● After you have collected your pictures for your own landscape, you will need
practice and refine your painting skills.
● Begin with an exloration of ‘TONE/SHADE’.
● Using the chart (above) create a number of tones that range from dark to lightin pencil. This will help you understand
● Afte you have moddelled tone using pencil, have ago using water colour paints:
Under your pencil tone-chart, set-up a table (3 coloumns by 7 rows) and practice making tones using theexamples (above) as a guide.
● Cell 1 = Pure colour (no white)● Cell 2 = Colour with a little white● Cell 3 = Colour with 50% white

Task 3: The Tree Task● Set up a new page in your sketchbook (use landscape format).
● Divide your work area into 3 equal spaces/sections.
● Sketch/draw 3 different shaped trees:a. Roundb. Tall/thinc. Pear-shape
● For each tree, use a different method of brush stokes/marks:a. Curly/Squigglesb. Dashes of linec. Prints/daps of colour

After you have completed the initial tasks (previous), you should be ready/confident
to take on the challenge of your own landscape painting.
● Using your ‘prep’ version as a guide (this should have been completed prior to
starting this assignment), collect a sheet of A3 (size) drawing paper and
sketch-out your landscape.
● Refine your sketchy line with a sharper/stronger line and remove all old sketchy
lines so that you are left with a neat clean outline of your work.
● Using water colours, paint your background areas first, and remember to work
in layers.
● Add ‘base’ colours to your work, and then gradually build on these base layers
with tones/shades of colour.
● Using the tip of the paint brush, bring details into your work.
