Dear Parishioners,
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells the Pharisees that they taught
the law but did not practice it. They did not exhibit the
compassion the law requires. Some Pharisees used the law
and their office for their own benefit. Jesus tells us to seek
God’s honor not our own. How easy it is to point a finger
of correction at the Pharisees. Yet if we are honest with
ourselves, I think we have a little of that Pharisee “stuff” in
us. Love is an action word. We show our love in
everyday ways.
• Are we quick to apologize when we know that we are
flat out wrong?
• Do we congratulate someone who received an honor or
reward?
• Can we always find something good to say about
someone?
• Do we include the lonely and forgotten in our circle of
friends?
Through Baptism we are called to be Preachers of God’s
love, joy and forgiveness. And as someone once said,
“Preach always and once in a while use words.”
Peace,
Sister Eleanor
