DECEMBER
For a life of prayer We pray that our personal
relationship with Jesus Christ be
nourished by the Word of God and a
life of prayer.
Saint of the Day
December 27
Who shall resist Anti-Christ when he
comes if we show such patience
towards the vices and crimes of his
precursors? By such leniency, we
encourage kings to become tyrants
and tempt them to withdraw every
privilege and all jurisdiction from the
Churches.

Gospel Luke 2:22-40
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, They took him up to
Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens
the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two
young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Now there was a man in Jerusalem
whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the
Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see
death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the par-
ents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, He took him into his
arms and blessed God, saying: “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your
word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for
revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” The child’s father and mother were amazed
at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is
destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted —and you
yourself a sword will pierce— so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” There was also a
prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having
lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.
She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at
that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the
redemption of Jerusalem. When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they
returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with
wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

COVID19 Vaccines Throughout the past few weeks, we have heard a lot of information about the testing and development of safe
and effective COVID19 vaccines. There has been continuous conversations within the Catholic community
about the safety and morality of these vaccines, so we are glad to say that both the Moderna and Pfizer have
developed vaccines using mRNA, and without the use of controversial fetal cell lines. Similarly, both vaccines
have been tested in an ethical way that is in line with previous moral statements made by Pope Benedict XVI
and the Pontifical Academy for Life. Receiving either vaccine would be morally permissible in the Catholic
Church and would also be an important prolife decision that would help to defend the most vulnerable.
Through our own personal actions and decisions, we can help to protect our neighbors from the coronavirus
pandemic.
For more information on the vaccines and their development, you can review a Catholic Standard interview
with Dr. David Diemert, a medical doctor and scientist who is part of a team researching a potential COVID19
vaccine. The USCCB has also published an internal memo on this issue, and you can find more information on
this topic. Finally, the Office of Life Issues recently published an article with more information in the Catholic
Standard. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Office of Life Issues at [email protected] if you would
like any more information or resources.
A Letter from Fr. Pablo Bonell1o
Dear Parishioners,
Today we look at the Nativity Scene and contemplate the New Born, His mother and His presumed father: today we celebrate the Holy Family of Nazareth: Jesus, Mary Most Holy, and Saint Joseph.
In 1964, Pope St. Paul VI made a pilgrimage to Holy Land; before leaving Nazareth, the holy Pope highlighted three teachings we learn from the Holy Family, and the Church reads every year in her Liturgy.
First teaching: the greatness of silence. St. Paul VI says: “Nazareth can teach us the value of study and preparation, of meditation, of a well-ordered personal spiritual life, and of silent prayer that is known only to God.”
Second teaching: the blessing of family life. The Pope of Vatican II does not hesitate to say: “Nazareth serve as a model of what the family should be”. A genuine family is “the perfect setting for rearing children –and from this there is no substitute.”
Third teaching: the value of work. St. Paul VI explains that in Nazareth we learn about work and the discipline it entails. The Pope reminds everyone that “work has its own dignity”. The Pope recognizes the value of daily work: “demanding yet redeeming”.
May Jesus enlighten and bless our families as He did with Mary and Joseph!
We pray for our families and put them under the patronage of Mary, Joseph and Jesus!
Happy Holy Family Day!
God bless you all!

The Youth Rally and Mass for Life will be an online only event on January 29, 2021. The Youth Rally and Mass for Life occurs each year in conjunction with the annual National March for Life
held on (or near) the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade court decision making abortion legal in this coun-
try.
The Rally strives to encourage the youth participating in the national March for Life in their witness as disci-
ples of Christ and promoters of the Gospel of Life. It is the largest annual archdiocesan event, which in many
ways has grown to become a national (even international) event with pilgrims traveling from as far away as
the US Virgin Islands and Australia.
Join us in prayer that as a nation, we may stop wandering in the wilderness of the culture of death and may
enter into “life in abundance” (Jn 10:10) through our faith in Jesus Christ and our proclamation of the Gospel
of Life.

Prayer for the New Year
Remember us, O God; from age to age be our comforter. You have given us the wonder of
time, blessings in days and nights, seasons and years. Bless your children at the turning of the
year and fill the months ahead with the bright hope that is ours in the coming of Christ.
You are our God, living and reigning, forever and ever. R/. Amen.
