A R F F G Meditating the Word of God Today, we are celebrating Pentecost Sunday. This feast "commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, and takes its name from the fact that it comes nearly fifty days after Easter. Today's three readings made reference to the arrival of the Holy Spirit, being baptized in the Spirit and being sent forth to proclaim the Word of God so others may change to the living faith. The arrival of the Holy Spirit was affirmed in the First Reading when we heard, “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages”. Being baptized in the Spirit was affirmed in the Second Reading when it was said, “In the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body.” And being sent to proclaim the Word of God was affirmed in the Gospel Reading when we heard, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” “On the day of Pentecost when the seven weeks of Easter had come to an end, Christ's Passover was fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, manifested, given, and communicat-ed as a divine person: of his fullness, Christ, the Lord, poured out the Spirit in abundance." “According to the Apostle Paul, the believer enters through Baptism into communion with Christ's death, is buried with him, and rises with him: Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. Through the Holy Spirit, Baptism is a bath that purifies, justifies, and sanctifies.” Confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace, it unites us more firmly to Christ; it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us; it renders our bond with the Church more perfect; it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross. In the Lord's Pray-er when we say, “thy kingdom come” refers primarily to the final com-ing of the reign of God through Christ's return. But, far from distracting the Church from her mission in this present world, this desire commits her to it all the more strongly. Since Pentecost, the coming of that Reign is the work of the Spirit of the Lord who completes his work on earth and brings us the fullness of grace.

PRAYER FOR HEALING

Lord, I ask you to lift up all those who are suffering today. I ask you to bring healing to their body, mind and soul. Calm their fears and let them experience the healing power of your love. Amen.

R G Meditando la Palabra de Dios Hoy celebramos el domingo de Pentecostés. Esta fiesta se conmemo-ra el descenso del Espíritu Santo sobre los Apóstoles, y toma su nombre del hecho de que se produce casi cincuenta días después de la Pascua. Las tres lecturas de hoy hacen referencia a la llegada del Espíritu Santo, ser bautizado en el Espíritu y ser enviado para proclamar la Palabra de Dios para que otros puedan cambiar a la fe viva. A MESSAGE FROM DEACON RICHARD The church concludes the Easter season with the feast of Pente-cost 50 days after Passover in so doing the church is following our elder brothers in faith the Jewish people, according to Pope Saint John Paul ||,) the second the feast of Pentecost was the Jewish feast of new grain, new Wine, the first fruit of the harvest. It was held fifty days after Passover, thus Pentecost which means fifty. The book of acts tells us that it was on this face that Peter was in emboldened by the Holy Spirit to speak to the Jewish pilgrims Who had assembled in Jerusalem that day. Look tells it in acts it was on that day that the spirit was given to the disciples and also poured out onto the crowds who were listening to Peter preach but our gospel reading is not from acts as it is not a gospel nor is it from Luke. Jesus gives the gift of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus is speaking in the Gospel of John, in today’s Gospel readings happen on Easter Sunday evening it is on that day that Jesus gives the disciples the gift of the Holy Spirit in a graphic newly sacrament way, by breathing on them. Jesus presents brought joy to the disciples. When each one of us member of Christ body uses his or her gifts and talents for the good of all we are able to function as Christ intend-ed in one body intended and loving God and caring for each other. As the Psalmist proclaims when you send forth your spirit they are creat-ed and you renew the face of the earth. On Tuesday night we received a letter from our Archbishop with the news that Churches will be aloud to reopen with specific guide-lines that the state and the Archdiocese have sent to every Church. You can find these guidelines in our parish website. In order for Saint Matthew to be able to reopen we will need Parishioners to volunteer and serve in different areas that will be needed. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Our loyalty to Jesus Christ should be stronger than our loyalty to any political party. Life is the most precious gift that God gives us and so a politician's posi-tion on abortion is the most important issue and outweighs all others. MENSAJE DEL DIACONO RICHARD La iglesia concluye el tiempo pascual con la fiesta de Pentecostés 50 días después de la Pascua en el que la Iglesia está siguiendo a nuestros hermanos mayores en la fe el pueblo judío, según el Papa San Juan Pablo,) la segunda la fiesta de Pentecostés fue la fiesta judía de grano nuevo, vino nuevo, el primer fruto de la cosecha.
