GAUGE:

26 sts + 32 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS) BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Whenyou match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and thematerials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in.

[10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger sizehook or needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

kfb (knit into front and then back)An increase worked as follows:1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You willhave created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - you have increased 1 st.ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into

fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

SLIPPER (make 2)Cast on 20 sts.Row 1: K10, knit into front and then back of the next st to increase 1 st, k9 - you will have 21 sts at the end of this

row.

Notes1. On Rows 1-9, you are increasing sts on every RS row. On Rows 31-40, you are decreasing sts on every RS row.The number of sts shown at the end of a row tells you how many sts you will have at the end of that specific row.2. When you see 'twice' on Rows 5 and 7, this means that you should work the instructions that are enclosed in the

parentheses twice.3. Working both k2tog and ssk as decreases on Rows 31-39 creates decorative 'mirrored' decreases. If you prefer, simply work a k2tog for all of the decreases.

Row 3: K9, kfb, k1, kfb, k9 - 23 sts.Row 5: K9, (kfb in next st, k1) twice, kfb, k9 - 26 sts.Row 7: K9, (kfb in next st) twice, k4, (kfb in next st) twice, k9 - 30 sts.

Row 9: K15, kfb in next st, k14 - 31 sts.Size adjustment can be made in the following section of the Slipper.

To make the Slipper about 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) long, work Rows 10-30.To shorten the Slipper, work less rows before shaping toe; to lengthen the Slipper, work additional rows of St stbefore shaping toe.

Rows 10-30: Work even in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

Beginning with the next section of the Slipper, you will change from working in St st to working in Garter st (k everyrow).Shape Toe
