  • Extra-Ordinary Green-Houding for Preston

Extra-Ordinary Green-Housing for PrestonSustainability means have a wide range look on the world in term of being responsible for our garden alike the whole planet. Since this implicate a practical engagement from people we definitely think that a public space allowing social activities can stimulate the sense of belonging to the community and so get people involved with ecology issues. For this reason we propose for Preston social housing a strategy aimed to meet high quality standard on indoor, outdoors and in-between life spaces for the local community. The main goal is to preserve a quiet and comfortable private dimension, in a socially challenging common habitat.

SITE SPECIFIC Our proposal is strictly linked to site main quality character. The continuous front on Meadow Street respects the building alignment of the commercial axis giving a new scenario along the Sunday walk trough the church. The private greenhouse sequence and the presence of nature enrich the walkway view. Inside the plot pedestrian cross and driveway are visual and physical connections to the main site landmark: St.Ignatiuss bell tower.

SUSTAINABLE Greenhouse: a multifunction devise. Greenhouse for everybody!

A forceful and communicative symbol of ecology issue A further living space for the family, practical for gardening activities and green space for wintertime Solar collector, able to mitigate the indoor microclimate, in winter cumulating heat in thermal mass as wall or floor Cooling device in summer thanks to plant activity and natural ventilation A strategy in term to preserve privacy and lighting at ground floor A solution combining continuous buildings street front and multiple oriented overlook

SOCIAL CONNECTIONThe allotments are important in term of relation with the nature and providing food for the community they give the opportunity to people to consume local products.Furthermore the vegetable gardens represent the green connection with the public green space of the near housing bloc. In fact gardening activities are though as chance of possible social interaction between inhabitants. REPEATABLEThe scheme is a regularly greed of streets and bloks where greenhouses are south oriented and the commune vegetable plots are placed in the centre to have more access to sunny light. This make the plan easy to be mirrored or repeated in other sites always being careful about building orientation.
