Shiloh News June 2016 • Volume 7 Issue 6
Music is a medium that speaks to people’s hearts. Having grown up in the 60s (that would be in the 1960s for you Millennials), I love a “good old Rock n Roll” song. I’m thinking about Jumping Jack Flash or Satisfaction (Rolling Stones); Good Vibrations, California Girls, or I Get Around (Beach Boys); or Unchained Melody or You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling (Righteous Brothers).
The other day, Pastor Mark wandered into my office and found me with my head tilted back and my eyes closed as I listened to Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley (for those of you under 40…they ARE the Righteous Brothers) doing a “You Tube Concert” for me. I could have listened all day!
As I passed the Welcome Center the other day I found a half sheet of Favorite Hymns…
Crown Him with Many Crowns - A dentist’s favorite hymn There Shall Be Showers of Blessings - A weatherman’s favorite hymn
The Church’s One Foundation - A contractor’s favorite hymn Holy, Holy, Holy - A tailor’s favorite hymn
Standing on the Promises - A politician’s favorite hymn Open My Eyes That I Might See - An optometrist’s favorite hymn
I Surrender All - An IRS Agent’s favorite hymn Pass It On - A gossip’s favorite hymn
Send the Light - An electrician’s favorite hymn
This list also had some hymns for speeders…
For those who drive 45 - God Will Take Care of You For those who drive 55 - Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah
For those who drive 65 - Nearer My God to Thee For those who drive 75 - Nearer Still Nearer
For those who drive 85 - This World Is Not My Home For those who drive 95 - Lord, I’m Coming Home
For those who drive 100 - Precious Memories
While I love Rock n Roll and I’m really amused by these hymn titles, I find that praise and worship music speaks to my heart in an entirely different way. When I am discouraged or struggling with some issue, I find great comfort and hope in songs like Overwhelmed (Big Daddy Weave), Pray (Sanctus Real), Shoulders (for King & Country), & Drops in the Ocean (Hawk Nelson). When my heart is filled to overflowing with praise for Jesus, I want to listen to Indescribable or Jesus Loves Me (Chris
Tomlin). I can’t get enough of Stephen Curtis Chapman, Casting Crowns, and Matt Mahr to keep my faith strong. I’m also a big fan of Charles Wesley, Isaac Watts, and Fanny Crosby. Who keeps you “keeping on?” God uses all kinds of music (okay…maybe not the Rolling Stones) to strengthen, encourage, and bless us every day. Let me encourage you to find a favorite Christian radio station and listen…and sing…and glorify God!

May was a great month with the highlight of a
Junior High trip to Indiana Wesleyan University
for Never2Young. Pastor Mark and Lucy took a van
load to Marion for this Friday night to Saturday
event where the youth were challenged to think
about their faith and step it up.
The big event for June is our mission trip to
Kentucky. We will be travelling to Big Creek
Missions in Eastern Kentucky. Each of the
participants has requested the type of work they
want to do, from construction, working with
children, or community service. We are looking
forward to spending time with each other,
worshiping with 205 mission trippers, making new
friends, and serving the people of this Appalachian
area.
We will also meet a couple of regular times in June,
on the 5th and the 12th at 6 p.m. Youth through
high school are also invited to participate at VBS
June 13th – 17th at Rae Park in Royal Center.

Shopping Tips
Did you know…you can order your gift cards on line
and write your check to the church? Just go to
shopwithscrip.com and set up your account (Ask Pastor
Mark for the enrollment code). Then choose the gift
cards you want and make your payment to the church.
Your cards will be delivered to you at church.
Registering online will also alert you when there are
bonus rebates and new merchants are added to the list.
It’s not too late to order your vacation gift cards. If you
are flying, look for your favorite airline on the list of
merchants. If you are driving, look for your favorite
brand of gasoline and/or rental car on the list. One of
the newest merchants is Hotels.com. There are dozens
of restaurants too!! If your
vacation is a staycation this year,
maybe you would like a gift card
from Hulu Plus or AMC Theaters.
There are over 300 merchants to choose from and every
card you order benefits the Shiloh Youth Group. I love a
fundraiser that sells stuff people will want to use.
You will even find “Mr. Happy Burger” on the list of
participating merchants. Who doesn’t need a Happy
Burger or a Hap’s Delight??
Invitation to Celebrate!
June 4
2 – 4 p.m.
Please join us on Sat., June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Shiloh to celebrate our upcoming marriage. Both men and women are invited, and finger food will be served. Gifts are not requested, but if you choose to honor us with one, we are registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and at Kohl’s. Thank you for all your love and support for me through my growing up years at Shiloh. It means a lot! We hope to see you at the celebration on June 4.
Love, Rachel and Jon
CARD CLUB June 13 – 6 p.m.
You have heard of pleated curtains and pleated pants, but now
there are pleats on cards! Come join the group on June 13th at 6 p.m. as they learn to pleat paper and add to their projects. Complete 8 cards in one night ((okay… maybe just 2 or 3). Everyone is welcome. Bring a paper cutter and score board if you have them, along with basic paper crafting supplies. Call Sue with questions 574-516-1755 or email questions to [email protected]. Call or email Sue that you are coming so kits can be made just for you.
“Just 4 Men”
Just 4 Men will be meeting on Saturday, June 11th. After a
wonderful breakfast, we will continue our study based on the book of Daniel, “Thriving in Babylon.” This month’s lesson is all about humility and how in the midst of “Babylon living” humility is the path that will impact others for the Kingdom of God.
Mark your calendars for June 11th at 7:30…remember, it’s “Just 4 Men!”
WHAT REALLY GOES ON AT A MEN’S RETREAT…?
For the men who have never attended the Shiloh’s Men’s Retreat, here’s a glimpse of what goes on. On Friday afternoon, August 5th, those planning to spend the night will gather at the church and car pool to Camp Mack. The camp is located just north of Warsaw. On the way to the camp, we will make our annual pilgrimage to Penguin Point Restaurant for supper. Be sure to ask George Courtad about the “Double Wally Burger”…or was it a triple? After supper, we’ll travel the last few miles to the camp and settle into our “yurt” (an 8 sided cabin). There are several “yurts” to choose from for sleeping. Bring your own sleeping bag or bed linens and pillow and pick your bunk! The rest of Friday evening is spent playing cards, watching videos, and “shooting the bull!” There are restrooms and showers available...or the lake isn’t very far away if you want to take a “dip.” Saturday begins with breakfast. If you go away hungry, it’s your own fault! Between breakfast and lunch there will be two sessions presented by Dave Rowland, who is the pastor of Crystal Valley Missionary Church. He will be teaching this year on “Knowing God’s Will for Your Life.” There will be a third session after lunch. The remainder of the afternoon is spent in fun and fellowship. We get the vehicles packed up before supper and head for home when we are done eating. Those who may be unable to come on Friday night could come on Saturday morning and join us for breakfast, three sessions, lunch, and supper. If you have any questions, please see Jim Campbell, Mark Sell, Pastor Tim or Pastor Mark. There will be a sign-up sheet at the “Inspiration Station” table in a few weeks. Hope you make it a priority to attend the Men’s Retreat on August 5th and 6th this year!
Membership Class
Shiloh will be offering a membership class this summer. We will begin on Sunday, July 10th at
3 p.m. This would be a really good way for folks to learn about Shiloh, about what church membership means, and how the church works
to build the Kingdom of God. If you are making plans to join the church, if
you have just begun to attend Shiloh, or if you’ve been a member for years, there will be something that you can learn. There will be
NO high pressure sales job to “guilt” you into joining the church. It will be fun!
Plan early…talk to Pastor Tim to reserve your spot in the class. It will likely last three Sundays…maybe four.

The Growing Together In Love program was first created to assist in funding the beautiful church building in which we worship. The name Growing Together In Love was chosen in part to reflect the growth that Shiloh was experiencing at that time. Gifts to GTIL are applied against the building loan with the goal of paying off the loan on or before December 2029. In March the contributions to GTIL were not able to make a reduction in the life of the loan. If you are led to contribute, please insert your gifts in the GTIL pink envelopes and place them in the offering plate or place them in the drop box marked “GTIL” in the narthex. It is encouraged that GTIL gifts are to be in addition to the tithes and offerings.

If you have questions, see John & Debbie Spencer, Pastor Mark, or Pastor Tim.
Vacation Bible School
It is that time of year again! Vacation Bible School begins on June 13, 2016. Kids from Pre-K through 5th grade (grade that you just completed) will
meet at the pavilion at Rea Park in Royal Center each evening at 6 p.m. for classes that teach them about Jesus. VBS will last one hour. The theme for this year is “Crack the Code.” Three-year-olds and under are welcome to join the Pre-K class
if there is a parent or grandparent with them. The Jr. – Sr. High kids will meet at the park & will be doing community service projects. There will again be walking groups that will meet at 5:30 with pick-up points along the way. The 1st walking group will congregate at the Bob-O-Link and the 2nd walking group will meet at the trail head. The walk will be completed by 7:30 with kids dropped off at home.
Church in the Park On Sunday, June 19th
, Shiloh will be
meeting in Rea Park in Royal Center for worship. This is the culmination of Vacation Bible School,
and the VBS committee hopes to reach out to parents of kids who are in VBS during the week. Many of these parents won’t come to the church
building for a program or worship; however the hope is that they will come to the park. This is a great opportunity to do some outreach with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. Worship will begin at 9 a.m. with
singing & the VBS wrap-up. The morning scripture & sermon will be
intertwined with the theme of VBS which is “Crack the Code.” Following the worship service there will be
coffee & donuts so that we can “meet & greet” those who have come to
see their kids in the VBS program.
Please bring lawn chairs to sit in…maybe a few extra if you have them. There will be some folding chairs from the church if you need them.
In case of rain, the worship will be held at Pioneer High School in the auditorium.
There will be a 10:30 service at Shiloh if you are
unable to attend the park service, HOWEVER,
please plan to attend the service at the park if at
all possible.
Mission Spotlight
This monthly article shares information about the
missions and missionaries the Benevolence Committee is
supporting. Shiloh designates 15% of all worship and
Sunday school offerings to be distributed by the
Benevolence committee. This month the Mission
Spotlight is shining on the Billy Graham Evangelistic
Association.
Founded by Billy Graham in 1950, BGEA exists to
proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective
means and to equip the church and others to do the
same. BGEA works around the world and around the
clock to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with
millions of people every year.
As hurting people search on line for answers, BGEA’s
Internet Evangelism Outreach is there to direct them
to real hope through compelling online Gospel
presentations.
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Festivals,
Crusades, and Celebrations have spanned the globe
with one purpose—to proclaim God’s love to people
who need Jesus Christ.
My Hope is a nationwide effort to reach people
across the United States with the Gospel of Jesus
Christ. Following a simple biblical model, My
Hope combines the impact of video programs with the
power of personal relationships. Christians across
America can open their homes to share the Gospel
message with friends, family, colleagues, and
neighbors using one of several evangelistic programs
featuring life-changing testimonies & powerful
messages from Billy Graham.
The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (RRT) trains
God’s people for grief ministry and deploys crisis-
trained chaplains to provide emotional and spiritual
care to those affected by man-made or natural
disasters.
Franklin Graham feels called to speak out about the
direction the nation is headed in, and he’s using the
Decision America Tour to do just that. Following is an
excerpt from an article and interviews following the
Decision America Tour stop in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The 282-day journey—starting in Des Moines, Iowa, in January and finishing in his home state of North Carolina on October 13—entails countless hours of travel and living out of a suitcase. But there’s just too much at stake.
“God has blessed this nation more than any other,” Franklin Graham said. “But if you want to take God out of it, He’ll leave. The only answer for our country,” he added, “is to pray. And pray. And pray.”
Pam McCabe, 63, was tracking with every word. A Lincoln lifer, she’s seen her beloved city deteriorate morally and now has 32 grandchildren to worry about.
“I think what Mr. Graham said here is phenomenal,” she said. “It’s energizing to know that there’s a male leader in America who is willing to say these things.”
McCabe knows the moral issues her state is facing—like the number of abortions that have taken place in Lincoln alone since Planned Parenthood moved into town 20 years ago. “You can’t kill 20,000 innocent babies and not expect some kind of reckoning,” McCabe said.
The target Franklin Graham wants Lincoln, Nebraska—and the nation—to focus on is making room for the Almighty in everyday life.
“Let’s put God back into politics,” he said. “It’s our job as Christians to make the impact of Christ felt in every phase of life.”
The BGEA is also active with a TV Telephone ministry;
Discipleship & Training both online and in person at
The Cove; and outreach programs designed for
children and youth. Please continue to pray for the
folks at BGEA as they work to spread the Good News
of Jesus Christ throughout the World.
The June Bible reading takes us through the heart of 2 Corinthians where we will see themes of suffering for serving Jesus; giving; and reconciliation with God. I love Paul’s discussion of what happens when a believer dies (5:1-8). We follow Paul’s 2nd letter to the Corinthians with 4 letters to churches in Asia Minor: Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, & Colossians. In these letters, Paul deals with the reality of Christian living (Galatians – Law vs. Freedom; Ephesians – Building up the church & Spiritual Warfare; Philippians – Joy; and Colossians – the Focus & Practice of Faith). Enjoy & digest every word Paul writes for us that we might live to glorify Jesus in every word, action, & thought. Meditate on his words & allow God to hide them in your heart. Happy Reading!
