Service Carburetors “D” Type Mixture Screws

• TSB-278

Carburetor Disassembly & Assembly

1. Remove the carburetor.

2. Remove the “D” type mixture screws. – Count the number of turns – Record the setting. – Remove the “D” Mixture screws.

3. Disassemble, Clean, Inspect and Reassemble.– Reset each mixture screw to its original position.

Idle Speed and Low Speed Mixture Adjustment.

1. Adjust the idle speed below clutch engagement speed

2. Rotate the L mixture screw to find peak rpm between rich and lean.

3. Adjust the idle speed

4. Repeat step 2 and 3 as needed

5. Adjust the idle speed screw to “Max idle rpm”

6. Adjust the Idle rpm to "Rich Down rpm”

High Speed Mixture Adjustment

• NOTE: Do not run engine at WOT without load longer than 10 seconds.

1. Run the engine at WOT and rotate the H-mixture screw until the rpm reaches the specified “Starting rpm”.

2. Run the engine at WOT and rotate the H-mixture screw counterclockwise until the rpm reaches the specified “Rich Down” rpm.

Engines with rpm limiters

• Set the WOT engine rpm to just before engine speed limiter engagement.
