HiSTORyFrom the day he was named Bishop of the Diocese of La Crosse, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke reflected upon and prayed about the pastoral needs of the entire Diocese. He spoke about his concern for both the family which has suffered so many assaults in recent times, and about the violence which more and more marks American culture. Through what many attribute to divine providence, a beautiful site of approximately 70 acres was donated by the Robert Swing family. it was the desire of the late Mr. and Mrs. Swing that the tract of land might one day become a place that would draw people closer to God.
February 22, 1995: Bishop Raymond L. Burke expresses a desire to establish a Marian shrine.
June 17, 2001: Ground breaking for the shrine located on 70 acres of woodland donated by the Robert Swing Family.
December 12, 2002: The Pilgrim Center and Mother of Good Counsel Votive Candle Chapel are completed.
May 13, 2004: Official ground breaking for the Shrine Church.
May 14, 2007: Excavation begins on the construction of a Friars residence which will adjoin the Shrine Church.
July 31, 2008: The Shrine Church and Friary are finished and dedicated by founder Archbishop Raymond L. Burke.
