Break away sessions are sector focused sessions that engage summit attendees and key stakeholders around the impact and implementation of the 9 point plan within these sectors

I N V E S T M E N T:

Engagement of the investor community and unpacking its role in the realisation of the NDP and South Africa’s 9-point plan is integral to its success. Higher levels of investment are neededin South Africa which means that investment as a share of GDP needs to rise to 30% by 2030.

E N T E R P R I S E D E V E LO P M E N T:

Small, medium and micro-sized enterprises play a vital role in South Africa’s livelihood, employing more than 60% of the population to provide over 12 million jobs.

P U B L I C - P R I VAT E PA R T N E R S H I P S ( P P P S ) :

A joint action plan and public-private collaboration is required to potentially accelerate the economic growth by an additional 0.8% in the short-term and 1% in the medium to long-term as per South Africa’s 9-point plan.

S O C I A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y:

The NDP needs to be accessible to all South Africans, public and private sector alike, to enable a shared responsibility ensuring that the recommendations and findings of the National Development Plan are implemented for the future of the nation.

W H Y D O W E N E E D TO TA L K A B O U TT H E N D P ?

This Summit provides a platform for us to celebrate our achievements, identify shortcomings and strategize on how to address them as well as hold each other accountable for the parts of the NDP for which we are responsible. Our attention must now focus firmly on implementation, learning, adapting and making improvements as we progress with the implementation of the NDP.

It is important to engage in conversation with local government on national implementation, as the National Development Plan is important for both rural and urban areas of South Africa. The NDP provides guidance on the basis of agreed government policy and its relation to a long-term vision. It will also have influence on the institutional development of government.

The time comes in every revolutionary movement when the struggle for freedom has been won, talk of freedom is no longer enough, and the promises made to the people must be delivered upon. This is the nexus at which South Africa finds itself in 2016. We must all work to create the world we prefer to be in rather than the one we are suffering in. The National Development Plan provides a mechanism for doing this.
