我叫Nicky。網路上我比較常使用化名” Desert Rabbit”我目前就讀莎凡納藝術學院，主修漫畫。我對於用漫畫手法來呈現一個故事以及童書特別感興趣。

Please introduce yourself briefly.

My name is Nicky, also better known by the online avatar, “Desert Rabbit.” Majoring in Sequential Arts, I am currently studying in Savannah College of Arts and Design with a passion in Visual Storytelling through the form of Comics, Storyboards and Children’s Book.

你如何定位自己

我喔…我就是那種你媽會警告你要小心的那種人。Ok…這或許聽起來有點太誇張…我是一個靈魂充滿著靈感的藝術家。而且同時能夠與同樣性質的藝術家互相激發靈感的人。

How do you define yourself?

I am the guy your mum warns you about.... Ok, may-be that sounds too much... I am an inspirational artist. An artist who strive to inspire and be inspired by other inspirational artist whom in return strives to inspire and be inspired by other....

你創作“FanArt”的靈感是什麼? 你對於作品中那些角色是怎麼選出來的?每一個角色對你來說是否都具有特別的意義呢?

FanArt是以受歡迎的原創角色或者是故事為基礎所畫出來的。我一直以來都是超人和漫畫迷。例如像是蝙蝠俠、或是火影忍者。我用我自己的觀點，以不同的風格來詮釋這些那些角色。要畫的角色的選取其實是隨機的，取決於我當下正在閱讀或者在看的素材。

What’s the inspiration of “FanArt”? How did you choose the characters? Does each of them have special meaning to you?

FanArt are drawings that is based on a popular character or story that was created by someone other than the original artist. I have been a great fan of superheroes and mangas like Batman and Naruto and thus decided to “doodle” my own interpretation of the characters in a different style. The choice of characters I choose to draw are random, depending on what I have been reading or watching during the time.

你通常是如何構思出一個故事?

我的故事點子通常是經由不經意的發現而創造出來的。我想要傳達與分享的故事大部分都帶有強烈的訊息。例如環境的議題，情緒，社會問題，以及人與人的關係。我之所以能保有著源源不斷的點子跟靈感，是因為我閱讀內容豐富的書籍和雜誌(像是SKB18!)。加上我常常用不同類型的音樂刺激我的腦袋，以及對這世界不斷的提出問題。當我的點子出現時，它自己就會不斷增長。是的! 它通常可以自我表達而不需太多的解釋。

How do you usually come up with an idea of a story, and how do you develop it?

I usually create my story ideas through happy accidents. They tend to be strong messages that I want to express and share from environmental issues, to emotions, society problems and relationships. How I maintain a continuous flow of ideas and inspiration is by reading highly enriching books and magazines ( for example SKB18!), constantly blasting my mind with a wide genre of music and questioning the world endlessly. Once the idea is out, it’ll naturally develop itself. Yup, it normally manifests itself and I have no explanation for it.

你覺得在構思故事過程中最重要的是什麼?

我想在發展一個故事的時候最困難的就是…發展本身。哈哈哈，我是說真的。我實在沒法想到其他的事情，因為當事情在進行的時候，它是令人畏懼同時又是困難的。我想如果我真的要選的話，那應該就是”想辦法專心”。人類通常在創造的時候都會不專心。因為他們常常會注意小地方而忘記了原本他們要傳遞的訊息。

What’s the most difficult thing to you to develop a story?

The most difficult thing to develop a story is to ... develop it I guess. Hahaha, I meant every sense of it. I can’t really think of anything else since everything in the process is equally daunting and hard. I guess if I really have to pick, it’ll be “trying to stay focus.” Humans tend to lose track of things during creation because they get too worked up in the minor details and they forget about the initial message they wanted to convey.

你人生當中最重要的三個東西?為什麼?

我想我的老媽還有我的阿姨應該不能被歸類成”東西”，所以應該是書、音樂和筆。我喜歡閱讀、聆聽還有畫畫。我沒有對什麼東西有個人偏好，所以應該就是這三樣東西。

What are the three most important things in your life? Why?

Well I guess my mum and aunt can’t be classified under “things” so it’ll have to be books, music and pencil. I love to read, hear and draw. I don’t have a personal attachment to items so it’ll have be these three “things.”

請問誰是你最欣賞的藝術家?為什麼?

我沒有偏好的藝術家，因為我不相信有這種東西。我有一整個最喜歡藝術家的名單，從宮崎駿、小畑健、浦沢直樹、岸本齊史、井上雄彥、Tim Burton、Jeff Smith等等藝術家。

Who is your favorite artist? Why?

I don’t have A favorite artist, I don’t believe in such things. I have a WHOLE list of favorite artist though from Miyazaki (Ghibli Studios) to Takeshi Obata ( Hikaru No Go artist), Naoki Urasawa ( Monster, 20th century boys), Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk), Tim Burton, Jeff Smith (Bone), Kazuhiro Kibushi (Amulet), etc.......

我很喜歡你的雜誌，我真希望我可以早點知道它的存在! 從現在開始我就要成為你們雜誌的愛好者啦!

What do you want to say to SKB18?I love your magazine and I wished I had known its existence earlier! I’m gonna be a fan from now.

Burnt -In every sense of the word, we have been overcooking; burning too much trees. The battle over burning forests has been an issue unresolved for centuries.

我們一直以來都燃燒過多的樹木。對於森林的過度開發與燃燒，是幾世紀以來都未能解決的爭鬥。

Revenge of the Trees -Questioning our actions towards mother nature, how would one feel when their legs are chopped off with no capability to self defense.

想想我們曾對這片土地做了什麼? 想像當一個人被砍斷腿而沒有反擊能力是怎麼樣的感受?

Scar Tissue -Would the trees feel the same and if so, how would she feel?

當樹被砍斷的同時，是否也是跟我們被砍斷腳一樣呢? 如果是，那樹木將會是什麼感覺呢?

[ 十年 ]

我清楚的記得2000年那年倒數許下的願望，期限是十年，

當時的我說過：我要在二十八歲非常成功。沒想到十年轉

眼就過了，這些年也的確發生了很多事。我遇到目前人生

中最黑暗低潮的教師甄試和奴隸助理般的生涯，讓我最害

怕的事是心中失去方向、自我價值崩落；但也經歷最開心

與幸福的時刻，在大學遇到好朋友、找到最瞭解我的男朋

友、考上研究所、到英國留學。二十八的我，雖然沒有百

分百的實現當年願望，但目前所得到的、所擁有的就該知

足。期待我的下個十年。

那年，我許下七個願望，並期待愛、夢想與勇氣能夠降臨。

迎接更Bling-bling的2011年

2010年7月20日，我到英國留學，跟著老哥到處探險旅遊，

這一年會更加的順利，實現我十年前許的願望。

有結果，當出了國門像根浮木想找個伴時，最尷尬的就是熱臉

貼冷屁股。後來學會了，感情這種事勉強不來，不只是愛情、

友情亦然。

After my mom turned 83 she was often confined to her bed and unable to walk. My mom is a child development researcher and she loves to have long conversations about human nature and politics. She also is great at wisecracks and can be silly. I imagined one day that I could get her out of bed and take her on a tour of Willy Wonka’s Factory, just like Charlie did with his Grandpa Joe….
