How to: Install Sophos on a Mac
In order to register your Mac to the MSU Network, you are required to have antivirus software on your computer. The Office of Information Technology offers Sophos as a free option to students and staff for their antivirus software. It is available for download on the OIT page and below are the steps on how to download, install, and update Sophos Antivirus Software.
1. Go to www.montclair.edu/oit
2. Click on “Software Repository” and login with your netid and password. Agree to the
terms and conditions to continue.
3. Select “Sophos Antivirus” under the Mac list of software
4. Once you click on “Sophos Antivirus” you will get a screen to open or save the file. You want to open it with “DiskImageMounter” (it is set as the default).
5. Once you select to open the file, it will begin to download.
6. Once the download is complete, the Sophos application will “mount” itself in finder under devices. Go into finder and click on the Sophos device.
7. Double click on the Sophos Anti-‐Virus.mpkg to run it.
Note: Depending on your security settings, it might say that you are unable to run this program because it is from an unauthorized site. If this happens, right click on the package and select “run” from the drop down menu and it will prompt you if you want to run this package, select Yes.
Double click me!!
Or right click and select “run”!
8. The installation prompts will now start:
9. The installation prompt will guide you through the process. Select Continue throughout the prompt and agree to the software license agreement.
10. Once you agree to the license agreement, Sophos will install and the installation should only take a few minutes.
11. Once Sophos has installed, make sure that it is up to date. There should be a shield with an “S” on it on the top right side of your menu bar (this is the Sophos app and logo).
It looks like this:
Right click on this shield and select “update now”
You will be able to view it updating and once it is complete, Sophos is fully installed and should meet the requirements for the Bradford Agent to register to MSU Network.
