    Speaker Hanger

    This Speaker Hanger is a

    unique way to hold and

    display your speakers,

without the need for a stand.

    This custom Macrame design

is very similar to a plant

hanger, but the cradle at the

    bottom is a little different.

    I HIGHLY recommend you

    use 550 weight Paracord,

    since speakers are heavy and

    you need a strong material.

    The Speaker Hanger is an

easy pattern, and can bemade by beginners. But it's

    time consuming.

    Supplies Needed:

Paracord (250 yards) 2 Brass Rings (2.5-inch size) Fabric Glue

    Knots Used:

Square Knot Spiral Stitch Wrapped Knot Half Hitch

    Cutting Instructions:

Cut 16 cords, each 15 yards long Cut 5 cords, each 2 yards longIMPORTANT: Paracord has an inner core material that can come out of the nylon around it. So

it's important to seal the end with heat. Just light a candle and hold the end in the flame for a few

seconds. Applying tape over the ends will help ensure that the inner core material does not get

    pulled out.

    Top Portion

Step 1: Take a 2-yard cord and wrap itaround the two rings. It's best to start at

the top and use each end to wrap half of

the ring. Apply glue to the rings as you

progress, placing the material drectly on

it. When you get to the bottom, tie a

Half Hitch to secure the end.

Make sure the wraps are TIGHT and

close together. To make the Half Hitch, pass the end over the rings, under them,

and over the segment of cord resting

    next to the rings.

Apply glue to the Half Hitches, andallow it to dry completely.

Step 2: Locate the center of each 15-

yard cord, by matching the ends and

running the material through your hand

    until you reach the fold.

Secure the center of the cords on your

project board or work surface, arranged

side by side. Put 2 cords together (one

    on top, one below).

Step 3: Make sure the 16 cords areclose together and are not twisted orkinked. The centers should all be lined

up. The Speaker Hanger will look better

    if everything is neatly arranged.

Bundle each cord, as described below,to keep them from tangling. Wrap each

half, above and below the center point.

    Bundling Long Cords

Move down around 8 inches from the

center, and wrap the cord around yourhand several times. Stop when you have

    about 12 inches left.

Take the end and wrap it around the

center several times, to hold the coils

together. If you wrap firmly and pullthe end tightly, you'll end up with a

sturdy bundle that's easy to handle.

Pass the end under the coil closest to it,to hold it in place. Pull tightly to secure

    it.

As you work on the Speaker Hanger,

pull to get more cord from the bundles.

Make sure you tug on the end to tighten

the wraps around the center, since the

roll gets smaller as you pull from it.

Step 4: Take two of the 2-yard cords

and locate the center. Secure them oneither side of the long cords, so the

    centers line up.

These are the working cords for the

thick Square knots, at the top of the

Speaker Hanger. The long cords are the

    fillers.

Step 5: Use the bottom half of the 2-

yard cords to tie the first half of a

Square Knot. Go around the entire

bundle to make a wide, thick knot.

Tighten the first half, making sure it

rests next to the center, where the cords

    are secured.

Tie the second half of the SK.

Tie a total of 8 Square Knots, moving

from the center towards the ends.

    TURN THE DESIGN AROUND, so

you are using the other end of the 2-yard

    working cords.

Tie 8 more SK, moving from the center

    towards the ends.

Step 6: Pass the rolled cord bundles at

one end through the ring. Make sure

they all go through the ring in the same

    way.

It helps to do this step with the Speaker

Hanger suspended from a hook in the

    ceiling or wall.

Step 7: When you are finished with the

last step, arrange the middle of the SKsennit over the knots in the ring. Theends of the cords should dangle on

    either side of the ring.

Fold the sennit, matching the last knots

    tied, so it's balanced.

Step 8: Apply the fabric glue to the

inside of the SK sennit, as well as the

bottom of the ring. This will prevent the

    ring from sliding later on.

    http://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker8-large.jpghttp://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker7-large.jpghttp://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker6-large.jpg

    9/18

Bring each half of the sennit close

together. Wrap a piece of scrap cord

around the knotted area while the

    glue dries.

Step 9: After the glue dries completely,

lay the Speaker Hanger on your work

surface. Secure one 2-yard cord beside

the design, so the end is near the ring.

To start the Wrapped Knot, make afold about 6 inches from the securedend.

Take the working end and bring it

around the bundle. Pass over the front,

and behind the bundle of cords.

Make sure you pass under the secured

end of the cord you are using, as you

bring it to the front again.

Continue to wrap, making sure you do

so firmly, with the coils close

together. Wrap from the bottom of the

SK sennit, towards the ends. Make theknot 2 inches long.

Pass the end through the loop (fold) that

    you made.

Remove the pin from the secured end,

and pull on it. The loop will be pulledinside the knot, holding the working endin place.

Apply a light coat of Fabric Glue on the

outside of the knot. Trim all the short

ends, and push the tips of them insidethe Wrapped Knot so they are hidden.

Apply glue as needed to keep the ends

    in place.

    11/18

Step 10: Organize the long cords by

dividing them into two groups. Put each

half in a plastic bag. They should still be

rolled up. Suspend the Speaker Hangerfrom the ceiling or wall. Select 4 cords,

and tie a Spiral Stitch for 15 inches.

Spiral Stitch = first halfof a SK over

    and over.

Design Tip: To keep the spirals for the Speaker Hanger neat and uniform, start by tying 5 knots.

Push the knots up to eliminate any space. Then twist the spiral design so the back of it is in the

front, facing you (half twist). Then tie 5 more knots. If you continue on in this manner, the spirals

    will be neat and compact.

When the spiral portion is finished,

    Switchthe working cords and the

    fillers.

I usually put the working cords underthe fillers when I bring them to theinside, but you can do it either direction.

  • 7/31/2019 Speaker Hanger

    12/18

Step 11: The previous fillers are now

the working cords for the next portion

of the sennit. The old working cords are

    now the fillers.

Tie the first Square Knot. Remove all

the slack above the knot by tightening it

    firmly.

Tie additional Square Knots to create asennit measuring 25 inches.

As you progress, make sure you push up

on the knots to eliminate any space

    between them.

Repeat steps 10 - 11, using four cords at a time, to create a total of 8 sennits for the Speaker

Hanger. Make sure they are all the same length, in both the Spiral Stitch area and the Square Knotportion.

    13/18

Step 12: Pick two sennits that are close

together, and mentally number the ends

1 - 8. Make sure they are not twisted,

    and rest side-by-side.

    Tie a SK with cords 3 - 6. Cords 1, 2,

7, and 8 are not used for this knot.

Repeat this process with the remaining sennits for the Speaker Hanger. Just make sure you

connect those that are close together, and that they are not twisted.

Step 13: Go to one set of linked sennits.

    Locate cords 5 - 8. Pass cords 5 and 8

over cords 6 and 7, to switch them.

This way strands 6 and 7 become the

new working cords, with 5 and 8 as the

    fillers.

Tie a Square Knot with the switched

cords. Pull out as much of the slack

above the knot as you can.

  • 7/31/2019 Speaker Hanger

    14/18

Step 14: Now switch the ends of cords

    1 - 4. To do this, pass cords 1 and 4under 2 and 3.

The new working cords will be 2 and 3,

and the fillers 1 and 4.

Tie a Square Knot with the switchedcords. Pull out as much slack as you can

    from above the knot.

    Step 15: Using cords 1 - 4, tie an

additional 23 knots (total of 24) to make

the SK sennit on the left.

Do the same with cords 5 - 8 to make

the SK sennit on the right.

Make sure each sennit is the same size,

and that the knots are pushed together to

    http://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker15-large.jpghttp://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker14b-large.jpghttp://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker14a-large.jpg

    15/18

    eliminate any slack.

Repeat steps 13 - 15 with the remaining linked sennits, to finish the upper cradle for the Speaker

    Hanger.

    Lower Cradle

Step 16: You now need to alternate the

sennits when you combine them to

make the lower part of the cradle. You

do this by putting 4 sennits next to each

    other.

    Mentally number them 1 - 4. Link

sennits 2 and 3 with one SK, as you did

    in Step 12 (cords 3 - 6).

Step 17: Do the same with the remaining sennits. So sennit 4 in the image above would be linkedwith one next to it. The same with sennit 1.

The most important thing to remember when making this portion of the Speaker Hanger, is that the

newly combined sennits have to be alternate to the first ones you linked together in step 13.

    http://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker16-large.jpg
  • 7/31/2019 Speaker Hanger

    16/18

Step 18: Go to each new set of linked sennits, and switch cords as you did in steps 13 and 14. Tie

an additional 19 Square Knots (total of 20), as you did in step 15.

    Finishing Touches

Step 19: Bring all the ends together in one bundle. Make sure none of the sennits are twisted in thecradle area. Use a 2-yard cord to make a Wrapped Knot. You can either do this on a surface, or

while the Speaker Hanger is suspended.

Make the Wrapped Knot 2 inches long, and apply glue to the cords in the bundle as you wrap. This

way the knot holds onto the cords better, since nylon is slippery. Wrap tightly as you progress.

Apply glue to the outside of the Wrapped knot, and clip off the short portions of the 2-yard cord.

Push the tips inside the knot, so they can't be seen.

Tug on each of the long cords to remove any space above the Wrapped Knot. It should rest against

    the bottom of each sennit.

  • 7/31/2019 Speaker Hanger

    17/18

Step 20: Make a Figure 8 fringe for the

Speaker Hanger by taking each end and

    making a counter-clockwise loop.

Pass the end under the segment coming

    from inside the Wrapped Knot.

Bring the end to the right, passing over

the segment coming from the Wrapped

    Knot.

Pass it into the loop from below (under -

    over).

Pull the Figure 8 Knot tightly and try to

position it as close to the Wrapped Knotas possible.

Tie several more Figure 8 Knots along

the length of the cord you are working

with. Add as many as you want.

    http://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker-fringe3-large.jpghttp://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker-fringe2-large.jpghttp://www.free-macrame-patterns.com/image-files/speaker-fringe1-large.jpg

The final Figure 8 knot should be at the

tip. Apply glue to this knot and heat

fuse the end to prevent unraveling.
