DANCING THROUGH PREGNANCY Total Pregnancy Fitness

Aerobic fitness is the most beneficial exercise asset a pregnant woman and her baby can acquire. It accounts for almost all of the known benefits detailed in research studies, including improved status of the placenta and fetus, reduced risk or severity of hypertension and metabolic syndromes, low rates of excess weight gain, feelings of well-being, more stamina, less recovery time following birth, reduced use of medical interventions in labor, shorter length of active labor, and reduced risk of low birth weight or prematurity. Total Pregnancy Fitness™ includes 20-30 minutes of fun cardiovascular activity in each session, as well as strength and flexibility components. (6 classes, Rec Ctr at SPC)

MOMMY & BABY POSTPARTUM FITNESS

Not feeling anything like your pre-pregnant self? Not sure how to start getting back into shape? Learn to safely recover from childbirth from a physical therapist with a specialization in women’s health issues. Anna Marotti has been a physical therapist for 30 years and is the only physical therapist in the state of CT with Certifications of Achievement in Pre/Post Natal issues as well as Pelvic Issues from the Women’s Health Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. Come meet with other new moms and their babies for a fun, informative re-introduction to exercise. Class is most appropriate for babies who are not yet crawling, and moms should bring a baby blanket to place baby on. (6 classes, Rec Center at S. Pine Creek)

Part of their day is spent in daily training sessions and the rest is spent directly with the other staff and campers The ideal candidate for the CIT program is 14 or 15 years old and has an interest in applying for work as a paid counselor when they turn 16. The CIT program gives promising 14 and 15 year olds an opportunity to gain valuable experience by working 6 weeks full-time. All CIT candidates must apply and will be interviewed by the CIT Director for acceptance into the program. CIT’s are evaluated on a weekly basis for continuation after the initial 3-week session. Please visit our website at www.fairfieldrecreation.com “About Us Tab” to fill out an application. We will begin accepting applications in January and will continue to take them until May 1st, 2015.

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING Ages: 8 - 13

During the Aerospace Engineering classes, our most experienced engineering students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines. They construct a rocket designed to land within a target zone, design a parachute with limited materials that will make the slowest descent possible, and create a hot air balloon model that actually takes flight with weight attached!

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Ages: 8 - 13

Students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of fluid mechanics, simple machines, and other design and engineering concepts while constructing roller coasters, egg-drop vehicles, and an incredibly fast air powered dragster they keep at the end of the course.

FAIRFIELD TEEN THEATRE

The Fairfield Teen Theatre is a community summer theatre run for and by young people from 13 through 19 years of age. It is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Commission, but prides itself in raising over 70% of its operational expenses through the efforts of its participants. Main Stage & Magic Box will take place at Fairfield Woods Middle School in the Music Rooms and Auditorium Pre-Teen Players will take place at Tomlinson Middle School Auditorium.

FTT serves the community by offering a variety of presentations. The members of FTT gain experience in all the performing arts: Dramatic, Visual, Musical and Dance. Opportunities in the non-performing aspects of the theatre are also available. These include business, advertising and sales as well as costuming, construction, lighting, make-up and the collection of properties. All aspects of play production are open to the members under the guidance and instruction of professional and apprentice staff members. A Broadway Show trip to New York City, a 4th of July pie sale, program advertising, and car wash are planned for MAGIC BOX and MAIN STAGE participants. Fundraising requirement for Back Stage and Orchestra participants is $100 per person.

We believe it is valuable for teens to understand the financial part of producing theatre. The three fund-raisers are requirements and each participant must meet the minimum fundraising goal. Participants may choose to pay the minimum amount rather than participate in the fundraisers. All fundraising obligations must be met prior to the performances. See fundraising requirements in each program description. All programs will not meet on Friday, July 3rd.

Registration is required for this group on Monday, May 18th or Tuesday, May 19th. If you would like to be considered for a leading role, please prepare to sing 16 bars of a song for the Directors at registration. The fundraising requirement is $200 per participant. All events for this program are held in Fairfield Woods Middle School’s Auditorium. If a returning teen did not fulfill last summer’s financial commitment, inclusion will only be granted once payment has been secured for this season in full by June 22nd.
