LOGISTICS INFORMATION FOR BANGKOK SUMMER SCHOOL 2013 Dear Global Health Bioethics Network Summer School Participants, We are delighted that you’re coming to the Summer School in Bangkok! Please find below some important information regarding the logistics of the Summer School. Please read all the information carefully, and be in touch with Dina at [email protected] if you have any questions. We’re looking forward to a wonderful four days and hope you are too!
Location The Summer School is being hosted by the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) in Bangkok, Thailand. Mahidol-‐Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) Faculty of Tropical Medicine Mahidol University 3rd Floor, 60th Anniversary Chalermprakiat Building 420/6 Ratchawithi Rd., Ratchathewi District Bangkok 10400, THAILAND Website: www.tropmedres.ac Dates The Summer School begins on Monday July 15th at 9:00am. As a result, please arrive in Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) on Sunday July 14th. The Summer School ends on Thursday July 18th at 5:00pm.

If you are not staying longer in Bangkok for further meetings, this means you may depart on the evening of Thursday July 18th, or the following morning. (Of course, you are welcome to arrive earlier, or leave later at your own cost.) As soon as you book your ticket, please inform Dina of your arrival/departure dates and times at the email address provided above. Passport and Visa Requirements
• Check the current validity of your passport All travellers will need a passport valid for at least 90 days following your departure date from Thailand. However, we strongly recommend traveling with 6 months validity on your passport at all times.
• Make sure your passport has blank Visa pages. Thailand requires that you have adequate un-‐used pages in your passport, allowing for any necessary stamps upon arrival and departure. We recommend that you have at least two free pages in Visas section of your passport before any international travel. Please visit your embassy website for how to extend your passport pages. Visas Passport holders from some countries are given a standard 30 day Tourist Visa on arrival @ Thailand. No paper work is required for the visa, you get your 30 day visa stamp when you pass through the customs / Immigration Passport check point @ any Thailand international airport.

Passport holders from the following countries are NOT eligible for the 30 day Tourist Visa on arrival & must apply for a visa from their local Thai Embassy office prior to departure. Dress Code There is no ‘dress code’ as such for the Summer School. Generally in Bangkok, most styles are acceptable in the city centre. In hospitals it is advisable to wear reasonably neat clothes. Male visitors should wear a dress shirt

with collar and trousers. Female visitors should wear a dress skirt longer than the knee and a shirt covering the shoulders. Dress should be polite and professional but doesn't have to be formal. Miniskirt and shorts should not be worn. Long trousers for female visitors are fine. A special dinner (Wednesday night) has been planned for one of the nights. For this dinner, you can feel free to dress up in your traditional clothes if you wish. Weather July in Bangkok is hot and wet. Temperatures range between 25-‐33 Degrees Celcius. Please bring with you light cotton or linen clothes, a rain coat or umbrella.
