A. PREFACE

“Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man “– Swami

Vivekananda.

P.S.C. & K.V.S.C. Govt. Degree College, Nandyal was established in

the year 1967 and gradually developed into a full-fledged UG and PG college

offering several combinations. The college started restructured courses

keeping in view of the current demands of the society. The institution has

realized that mere pursuit of knowledge and coaching for examinations is not

sufficient to transform the students form economically, socially and

intellectually disadvantaged position into confident, efficient and well-

rounded personalities.

This institution is located at Bommalasatram, a suburb of Nandyal

town is surrounded by a number of villages which are back ward in all aspects

and thus its importance in serving the needy rural population. A majority of

the students graduating from this institution are first generation learners.

This institution has prepared an elaborate schedule of curricular, co-

curricular, extracurricular and extension activities for the benefit of the

students. People-oriented programmes like Health and Hygienic education,

Environment, NCC and NSS activities are stressed. The alumni is taking keen

interest in the developmental activities of the college.

The NAAC assessment will give the institution an opportunity for

objective self-analysis and critical review of all its ongoing programmes,

administrative procedures, teaching methods or techniques, research,

extension activities, curricular aspects and evaluation Criteria. The motivation

which has been generated by the NAAC experience is an ample evidence of

the impact of the NAAC Accreditation.

The institution has been accredited the status of B+ in the academic

year 2005-06. It is in this context that the college has come forward to

overcome the weakness of the institution by enhancing the quality of the

institution. To achieve the goal the entire staff of the college is involved in the

preparation of self-study report for cycle -2.

This Accreditation Report for cycle -2 presents different phases of the

development of this college which is marked by significant changes both in

infrastructure and courses it offers, with supportive evidences and relevant

documents. It enables the authorities to have a bird’s view of the institution.

This volume makes a humble attempt to portray the present status of the

college. We hope that this effort will be met requirement.

All the lecturers’ in-charge of the departments have collected accurate

and up to date information from their departments concerned. The lecturers in-

charge of the departments convened departmental meetings and discussed all

issues related to NAAC Accreditation for Cycle-2.

A committee was constituted to co-ordinate the collection and analysis

of data with senior members of faculty under the supervision of the principal,

Dr Y. Nagaraja Naidu. The NAAC committee of the college held discussions

with all the departments and administration individually and collectively in

preparing the re-accreditation report. The conveners and members of various

committees of the college constituted by the principal were also consulted in

this regard.



The report submitted to NAAC presents the institutional achievements,

strengths, limitations and proposed areas of improvement relating to

development of the college. The coordinator of the committee Sri. S. Pandu

Ranga Reddy, Lecturer in English will act as the institutional facilitator during

the on-site visit of the NAAC peer team.

The Principal is highly obliged to the staff and students for their

sincere efforts and best co-operation in preparing this re-accreditation report.

We also thank the officials of the academic cell of the Commissioner of

Collegiate Education, Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad for their valuable guidance

and suggestions in this regard. Finally we profusely thank Smt. K. Sunitha,

IAS Commissioner of Collegiate Education for moral support and financial

assistance extended to this college.

Here, in the following pages attempts are made to make re-

accreditation and analysis of the institution as a forerunner for the analysis to

be made by the NAAC peer committee. It is hoped that assessment and

accreditation by the NAAC will enormously strengthen the institution to

qualitatively serve generations of future fraternity of students and the

community in general.



B. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY – THE SWOC ANALYSIS OF THE

INSTITUTION

Nandyal is one of the important towns in Rayalaseema area. It is the

abode of Nine Nandhis. It has its own significance since ancient times. Many

people from all over the country visit this town to reach Mahanandi. Dr

Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, Sri. P. V. Narasimha Rao, P. Venkata Subbaiah were

elected as members of the Parliament who served the nation at the highest

pedestal as the President of India, Prime Minister of India and the Governor

respectively.

A few philanthropists like Pasupula Subbarayudu Chetty and Kasetty

Venkata Subbaiah Chetty came forward with donations and named the college

after them in the year 1967. Since its inception the college has made steady

progress in academic activities. It has been effectively serving the student

community from all sections of the society particularly form the rural areas. Its

contribution is unique and significant in many ways. The institution has

become a sacred identify to the generations of past students.

The youth is the symbol of a nation’s enthusiasm, energy and hope.

Youth is to imbibe noble qualities and become good human beings. True

education consists in the cultivation of the heart. What one learns should

become a part of his whole being. Only then, one will have a sense of

fulfillment with complete harmony in thought, word and deed. We need a

modern education for a modern world. Education has many tasks—training

the intelligence, widening the mind and enlarging its interests, teaching the

techniques.



This college offers eight programmes at U.G. level and four

programmes at P.G. level, 1050 students are now pursuing Higher Education

in this institution. Out of which 75% is S.C., S.T., and B.C students. The

college has a potential of 27 personnel working relentlessly for achieving

institutional goals and objectives. Out of which two lecturers are completed

Ph.D., and two members of the faculty currently pursuing Ph.D. and five

lecturers are completed M. Phil and three are pursuing M. Phil. Besides there

are 25 non-teaching and supporting staff working for the institution.

The mission of the institution, its goals and objectives are reflected not

only the tradition but also its vision. Inter disciplinary programmes like M.Sc

(Chemistry) and B. Sc (Computers) are introduced in tune with the fast

changing scenario. Indian Heritage and Culture, Science and Civilization are

compulsory subjects at UG level.

The institution has transparent admission process. Admissions into UG

programmes are undertaken at the institutional level based on the merit

obtained at Intermediate Public Examination duly following statutory

reservations as per the norms of Government of Andhra Pradesh and

affiliating Rayalaseema University, Kurnool. Selection lists and waiting lists

are displayed on the notice board. Parents are invited at the time of

admissions. In respect of programmes rank obtained at a common test

(SVURPGCET) conducted by S.V. University, Thirupathi is taken into

consideration and admissions are made by the University authorities. During

the academic year 2013-14 Rayalaseema University, Kurnool is going to

conduct RUPGCET common entrance test.

Academically backward and disadvantage students are identified and

taken care by conducting remedial classes in all subjects. Tutorial classes are

conducted for all the students after the college hours. Students admitted are



put to constant observation following the ward couselling system in the

institution so as to pay individual attention on each and every student.

Education must provide the student a life worth living. Teachers

should not be bound by considerations of hours of work. A teacher is a

continuing learner. Teaching is a two way activity. Learning cannot happen

without a learner. Teaching, without a proper system of evaluation goes

waste. In view of these responsibilities of the teacher, we devised a plan of

action with continuous revision.

Innovative teaching learning methods include open forum, freedom of

expression, problem solving sessions, knowledge point, web oriented

assignments, classroom seminars, group discussions, quiz competitions and

socio economic surveys. English language laboratory enables the students to

acquire communicative skills and other English language improvement

techniques. Computer based testing programme is introduced in English for

all the students at UG level from 2005-2006.

Comprehensive annual academic plans are prepared incorporating

innovative teaching learning methods, co-curricular and extracurricular

activities. Teaching notes and teaching diaries are being maintained by all the

members of the faculty. Five members of the staff attended seminars,

conferences, workshops, refresher courses and orientation courses. The

college conducted one National Seminar in Hindi during the academic year

2011-12.

The quality of teachers is quite evident from the fact that two teachers

have received best teacher awards. The college follows self appraisal methods

by teaching staff duly following the parameters of Commissioner of Collegiate

Education, AP, Hyderabad, UGC and NAAC. Knowledge and skills acquired



by the students are assessed continuously by conducting assignments, unit

tests, half yearly examinations, pre-final examinations and model practical

examinations in different subjects. Syllabus, annual academic schedule,

previous question papers and principles of evaluation are communicated to the

students at the outset of the academic year. Annual examinations of UG level

and semester examinations at PG level are followed.

The institution encourages research culture among the members of the

faculty through faculty development programme offered by U.G.C. Research

committee is constituted to coordinate minor research and to provide facilities.

One Minor Research Project funded by U.G.C. is completed by Dr. S. Nazeer,

Lecturer in Hindi. One faculty member submitted proposals for U.G.C. for

Minor Research Project. Faculty offers consultancy service to local public,

farmers, other college, industries, non government organizations and the old

students at free of cost.

The college responds to the local community needs and aspirations by

conducting Pulse Polio Programmes, Adult Literacy Programmes, Blood

Donation Camps, AIDS Awareness Programmes, Socio- economic surveys,

adoptions of villages and slums and other extension activities. Department of

Commerce, Political Science and Economics conducted socio economic

surveys as a part of Society Outreach Programmes. There are two units of NSS

and one wing of NCC in this institution. Every year the two units of NSS

conducted special camps in the adopted villages besides the regular activities.

Many cadets of NCC and NSS volunteers took part in various activities.

The Department of Chemistry visited Vijaya Milk Dairy, Nandyal and

students involved in the preparation of Doodhpeda and involved in the extract

of Butter on 28.09.2012. The Department of Economics, History and Political

Science organized Study Tour to Kanchipuram of Tamil Nadu during the year



2010-11 for the benefit of the students. The Department of Urdu celebrated

National Education Day on 11-11-2011 on the occasion of Moulana Abul

Kalam Azad. The Department of English actively participated in plantation

programme. Our college students won the prizes in skit, folk solo song, mono

action and rangoli on the occasion of District level cultural youth festival held

on 5th and 6th January 2012 at KVR Govt. College, Kurnool.

The institution has an adequate infrastructure facilities consisting of

fifteen class rooms, seven laboratories, a central library, a computer laboratory

with twenty systems. There is a very big play ground available for conduct of

sports and games regularly. The college central library offers different types

of services to the students and the members of faculty and more than 23,000

rare and latest volumes with open access system borrow system and two

computes are available along with internet and INFLIBINET facility. Besides

every department has a departmental library and book bank.

Both men and women students are encouraged to participate in co-

curricular and extracurricular activities like elocution, essay writing

competitions etc. Eco-club, women empowerment cell, Academic and Career

Guidance cell, DRC, Consumer Protection Cell, Internal Quality Assurance

Cell, Jawahar Knowledge Centre etc. help the students to update their

knowledge. The college has a Grievance Redressal Cell for solving the

problems of the students. The students’ charter provides information regarding

the service provided by the college.

Transparency and accountability is ensured in all matters at all levels

through a meticulous observation of rules and regulations which are in force.

The Planning and Development Committee, Staff Council and other

committees comprising students and departmental meetings are conducted



regularly to monitor to improve the infrastructure, academic, administrative

and financial aspects of the institution.

The college has an efficient internal coordinating and monitoring

mechanism with inbuilt checks and balances. The Principal is the spearhead

of the academic, administrative and extension activities of the college with a

dynamic and democratic approach. All the lecturers-in-charge of the

departments are members of the Staff Council to take all major decisions

through discussions. Different committees supervise and ensure effective

functioning of the college. The University calendar is followed each year.

Financial support is provided in the form of scholarships, fee

reimbursement for SC, ST, OBC, Minority and EBC Students. Central Sector

Scheme of Scholarships is provided to merit students of the institution

sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development of India, New Delhi.

Indhira Gandhi Single Girl Child Scholarship sponsored by UGC to PG

students of the institution. Women hostel has been sanctioned. Management

hostels have been functioning by welfare departments concerned for men and

women.

Government appoints teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.

We have sufficient financial grants from Government, UGC, and CPDC funds.

The employees have loan facility from GPF and Medical Reimbursement by

the Government. The Principal’s chamber, the office, library and Network

Centre have Computers with internet facility for the staff and students.

Student attendance, examination work and salary bills are processed on the

computers.

The institution is a socially responsive organization. It is forever

looking forward to improve society through value based good quality of



education and other community development activities. As it is a proved fact

that NAAC accreditation is a stepping stone for realizing the grand vision of

the institution, culminating in its dream of quality of education, we are eagerly

waiting for reaccreditation from NAAC.

Consumer awareness, Right to Information, Legal Awareness, Eco-

Club, Clean and Green and Health Camps are conducted for students and staff.

The college maintains a good relation with students, parents, alumni and

society. The members of the staff donated clothes to the inmates of old-age

home at Nandyal. The students and staff donated blood to the needy patients

as a part of social service through NCC and NSS activities.

P.S.C. & K.V.S.C. Govt. College, Nandyal ultimately hopes to become

a recognized centre of excellence and resource centre in the areas of Computer

Science, Life Sciences and Humanities. The college continues its endeavor to

secure jobs to students and cater to the current and future educational needs of

the students from time to time. The efforts are fruitful for all round

development of the college.

THE SWOC ANALYSIS OF THE INSTITUTION:

Keeping in view of the “Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and

Challenges (SWOC)” developed by the Boston Consulting Group a

conceptual frame work for a systematic analysis of an enterprise that

facilitates matching the internal strengths and weaknesses with external

opportunities and challenges.

OUR STRENGTHS:



Our institution is situated in the serene atmosphere of Bommalastram,

the out skirts of Nandyal town at the feet of River Kundu is catering to the

needs and aspirations of the rural people. The Nandyal town is surrounded by

many holy places of Hindu pilgrim centres like Srisailam, Mahanandi,

Ahobhilam, Omkaram, Yaganti, Nandavaram, Kalvabugga, Kommachervu,

Bhogeswaram, Sangameswarm and Navanandis and the recent excavations,

‘Belum caves’ in the vicinity of Banaganapalle attract visitors from all walks

of life. We frequently arrange cultural and historical tours to these places to

educate our students. We also take our students for biological trips to

Nallamalai and other places to acquire field knowledge on wild flora and

fauna.

We have linkages with local academic, commercial and industrial

organizations for the benefit of the students and staff. Mineral water plant has

been established in our college during the academic year 2012-13 by the

financial assistance of S.P.Y. Reddy, Member of Parliament, Nandyal.

The college has its own buildings with sixteen classrooms. The intake

has been increased during the academic year 2012-13. The college has 32

acres of land with a large play ground. The NCC and NSS activities and

games and sports are conducted easily in the campus. We have a good

centralized library with sufficient number of text books on various subjects

and number of journals and periodicals in English and other languages.

Besides we have Eco-club, Career Guidance and couselling, Grievance

Redressal Cell, Cultural Association, Literary Association, Languages Club,

Science Club, Health Centre, College Planning Development Council, and

Alumni Association.

The college has a well equipped computer laboratory with twenty

systems with internet facility. Besides four computers in library, one in the



Principal chamber and one in NAAC Co-Ordinator Room and one in

Language Room and four Computer systems in Office. All the departments

have one Computer each. We have well furnished Science laboratories in

Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Electronics and Computer Science. We

have good sports equipment and Gymnasium. There is an open air stage in the

college quadrangle.

All the members of the faculty of the institution are well talented,

dedicated, devoted and experienced. Our faculty consists of Doctorates and

M.Phils with good academic record and they are also rendering their service

for research guidance and assistance. Some of the members of the staff are

undergoing research and published their books and articles.

Restructured courses were introduced in the year 2003 and are

continuing successfully in UG level. Attempts are being made to start

restructured courses in UG and PG in future. Many of our students won prizes

in the district and state level elocution, essay writing, dance and quiz

competitions. Some NCC cadets brought laurels to the institution by winning

state and national level gold medals and have won appreciation from the

Governor of Andhra Pradesh and NCC group commander. We have two NSS

units, conducted many special camps and rendered Yeomen service to the

public. Our college students won many prizes in sports and games. Our

college is marching ahead for many more achievements.

WEAKNESS:

We are not to speak of our weaknesses, but we have some other side of

the coin. Lack of sufficient classrooms and spacious and furnished indoor

auditorium are setback to the institution. We need to build a spacious reading

room for library, Seminar cum Conference hall to conduct different activities.



Government Colleges, being the component parts of the formal educational

setup are bound by innumerable rules and suffer from paucity of funds.

However we putting up with these simple shortages and forgoing ahead to

achieve our goals.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Though many degree colleges in private sector are blooming up

around Nandyal. We have a better feeding strength of students even when we

open up the new UG and PG programmes. The Value added courses are

introduced in Computers, Spoken English, Communicative English, Spoken

Hindi and translation course in Hindi would enable Graduates and Post

Graduates to acquire knowledge skills in Computers, Hindi and English. These

courses are popularized in our college, besides JKC is providing placement

services to attract the students.

Some of the Departments have established linkages for Learning,

Imparting training, Consultancy, Placement Services and Extension services

with different industries and various educational institutions. The restructured

B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Com (Computer Applications) courses available

in our college provide an ample opportunity to our students for self

employment and placement in industries and other areas.

CHALLENGES:

The Students come from marginal society and their back ground is

rural and poor .As a result they have developed Phobia to speak in English

when they attend for an interview. They need communicative skills and soft

skills to achieve their goal and to fulfill the opportunity of securing the job.

So certificate course in communicative skills is designed for development of

skills and planned to introduce by the institution as a mark of challenge to



overcome the problem of students. The present system of education has to be

thoroughly revamped by converting the traditional courses into job-oriented

courses with great emphasis on Science and Technology, Computer skills and

Communicative skills. In our vicinity even there is a heavy competition due to

one private college for women, SPY Reddy Degree College for women but the

intake of women students have been increasing year by year with goodwill and

faith on our college.

The institution offers not only offers not only conventional and

restructured UG courses but also P.G. courses in English and Organic

Chemistry.

The admission to various U.G. courses is in accordance with

the government norms and University regulations. The institution

follows the rules of reservation scrupulously. Applications called for

admissions are short listed. Selection lists and waiting lists are

prepared and displayed on the college wall magazine. Institution to the

candidates is sent by post.

Admission for the P.G. courses is based on the merit obtained

in the common entrance test (PGCET) conducted by the university.

Ranks are notified in the regional news papers. Candidates are allotted

based on the couselling to the college by the University in

M.A(English) and M.Sc (Organic Chemistry). But during the academic

year 2012-13 the candidates not opted for the PG course in our college

there are many seats available at affiliating University itself.

The demand ratio of admissions in B.Com (CA) is gradually

increasing due to more job opportunities but in other courses

there is steady progress due to heavy competition from other

institutions.

Special attention is bestowed upon the differently-abled

students needs. Lecture classes and examinatio0ns are conducted in the

Environment. This awareness campaign has spread message to the

society.

The faculty members are felicitated at the time of college

anniversary and other public functions by presenting mementoes and

cash prizes to the beneficiaries.

Our college NSS units and NCC both organized mega blood

donation camps. Nearly 500 students were examined their blood

groups and also donated blood to the general hospital, which

Department of English conducted elocution and essay writing

competitions to the students of Nandyal division level Degree

College in the month of November 2008.

Department of youth services, Kurnool and our college NSS units

jointly organized youth festival celebration on 23-12-2008 students

exhibited their talents through one act plays Dramas, folk songs

and dances.

The Department of Youth organized an awareness programme on

academic improvement and career achievement. U. Venkateswara

Reddy a well known psychologist counselled and guided the

students in the month of December 2008.

monitoring cell, Hyderbad, JKC of this institute successfully

recruited students into various companies, namely Indian Institute

of Language Managements, DELL. 500 students are trained during

the last 5 years on employable skills.

c. Summer placement : Special Training Programme (STP) is

conducted during the year 2008-09 for placement services.

d. Faculty exchange and professional development : Faculty of

Economics and Computer Science work as resource persons in the

neighboring Government Degree College, Yerraguntla under DRC

programme. Faculty of this college work as couselling in BRAOU

study centre. The DRC provides the faculty to the college to teach

the syllabus where there are vacant posts.

e. Research: Research on Medical plants and maintains the garden

with the collaboration of first department.

agreements like WIPRO, Infosys, Sathyam Mahendra, DELL and

of the family for quality sustenance. Research committee is constituted

A feedback programme supplied by the CCE and NAAC is sent to

academic peers, employees, alumni and local community.

The government banned students unions twenty five years ago.

However the members of students union are elected on the basis of the

highest marks secured in the previous examinations. A final year

student with highest marks is elected as president, second year student

National festivals, important days, cultural activities and

The college adopts ward counselling system. Each lecturer is

allotted thirty students in the tutor-ward system. Every lecturer is

assigned two tutorial classes per week to guide and counsel the

students in their personal, academic and professional pursuits. Ward

in-charge monitors the students in tutorial secessions regularly and

advises the students both personally. Their parents are intimated about

progress of the wards by letters and phone messages. Since 85%

students get financial assistance and support provided by AP state

government in the form scholarships, fee reimbursement and from

UGC schemes. The dropout rate in the institution is minimal. The

college is planning to start book store for the benefit of the students.

the consumption of natural energy sources like electricity, water and so

on we take in this regard.

There are many ways to conserve energy. It depends on the

kind of choices we make to help us save our environment and also help

our future generations. There are many things that will use less energy

and by using such things we will conserve energy in a sensible way.

Instead of normal tube lights, we can choose energy efficient bulbs.

Energy efficient bulbs require less energy to perform the same function

that normal tube lights do.

harnessed by humans since ancient times using a range of ever-

evolving technologies. Solar energy technologies include solar heating,

solar photovoltaic’s, solar thermal electricity and solar architecture,

Use of Renewable energy: Renewable energy is energy that comes

from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves and

geothermal heat, which are renewable because they are naturally

replenished at a constant rate. New renewable (small hydro, modern

biomass, wind, solar, geothermal, and bio-fuels) accounted for another

3% and are growing very rapidly. Conserving water has become a

prime environmental concern. Clean water is becoming increasingly

scarce globally.

Water Harvesting: As our college faces serious water shortages, every

drop of water we can use efficiently becomes of great value. One

method is to manage rain water in such a way that it is used at the

source. If rain water is available and it will be stored. This can be used

after the rainy season is over.

Current technologies of rainwater harvesting require that all

roof and terrace water passes down into a covered tank where it can be

stored for use after the monsoon. This is most advantageous in arid

areas where clean water is very scarce. However there are practical

difficulties such as constructing large storage tanks which are

expensive.

Another way of using rooftop rainwater harvesting is to collect

it so that it percolates into the ground to recharge wells instead of

flowing over the ground into rivers. Thus by recharging ground water

harvested from rooftops, the water table rises and the surrounding

wells retain water throughout the year.

first so that only unavoidable emissions are offset. Carbon neutral

status is commonly achieved in different ways.

Plantation: Trees alter the environment in which we live by

moderating climate, improving air quality, conserving water, and

harboring wildlife. Climate control is obtained by moderating the

effects of sun, wind, and rain. We are cooler when we stand in the

shade of trees and are not exposed to direct sunlight. In winter, we

value the sun’s radiant energy. Therefore, we should plant only small

or deciduous trees in our campus. Wind speed and direction can be

affected by trees. The more compact the foliage on the tree or group of

trees. Dew and frost are less common under trees because less radiant

energy is released from the soil in those areas at night. Temperature in

the vicinity of trees is cooler than that away from trees. The larger the

tree the greater the cooling.

By planting trees we return to a more natural, less artificial

environment. Birds and other wildlife are attracted to the area. The

natural cycles of plant growth, reproduction, and decomposition are

again present, both above and below ground. Natural harmony is

Hazardous waste management: Modern society produces large

quantities of hazardous waste that are generated by chemical

manufacturing companies, petroleum refineries, paper mills, smelters,

and other industries. Hazardous waters are those that can cause harm to

humans or the environment. Wastes are normally classified as

hazardous wastes when they cause or significantly contribute to an

increase in mortality, or an increase in serious irreversible or

incapacitating reversible illness, or pose a substantial present or

potential hazard to human health or the environment when improperly

treated, stored, transported or disposed.

E-waste management: Electronic waste, e-waste, e-scrap, or waste

electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) describes discarded

electrical or electronic devices. Informal processing of electronic waste

in our college may cause serious health and pollution problems.

Though our college also most likely to reuse and repair electronics.

Some electronic scrap components, such as CRTs, may contain

contaminants such as lead, cadmium, beryllium, or brominates flame

retardants. Recycling and disposal of e-waste may involve significant

risk to communities and great care must be taken to avoid unsafe

exposure in recycling operations and leaching of material such as

heavy metals from landfills and incinerator ashes.

Over the post NAAC period our college has greatly expended

the volume of resources devoted to various flag slip programmes in

Inculcation of Human Values through Education.





"If human values take root in the educational system, the emerging

individuals will have the following attributes: They will want peace and

justice in a world that acknowledges the rule of law and in which no nation or

individual need live in fear;

Freedom and self reliance to be available to all the students in our

institution. The dignity and work of every student is to be recognized and

safeguarded. All students are to be given an opportunity to achieve their goal

in life. They will seek equality before the law and the equality of opportunity

for all. Now we are living in the modern, scientific and technological world.

Science and Technology have brought enormous changes in the minds of the

students. The attitude of the students is also changes in the day to day in all

walks of life.

3. The Context

Man is a unique creation in this universe that under certain parameters

is free to make his own destiny. Now, if a student has to make his destiny, the

question of values in life comes up. He has to think naturally as to what should

be the guiding norms of life process. It is therefore clear that the guiding

factors for a student, which provide the prime motivating force behind his

thought, emotion and action, have to be moral and spiritual. The socio-cultural

In today's multi-cultural and multi-racial society, with its changing

social norms and expectations, it is difficult for a young person to know what

is right. To enable young people to appreciate themselves and others, and to

take greater responsibility for their actions and for the world around them. Sri

Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puthige Math has said that it is necessary to

give importance to human values in the present era of globalization. Values

are classified as; 1) Personal Values 2) Social Values 3) Moral Values 4)

Spiritual Values 5) Behavioral values. All the values are necessary to inculcate

in the minds of the students through the education in the classroom and

outside of the classroom. Information is received through sensory organs.

Students need to understand the importance of exercise, such as gymnastics,

yoga and sports combined with good rest. Good thoughts and good company

(which includes everything imbibed by the five senses) are essential for

healthy and well balanced development. Right conduct is taught through:

Silent Sitting, Storytelling and group activities in the classroom. Learning to

speak the truth is a first and vital step to build up a strong character. The value

of truth can also be taught through story telling which promotes curiosity,

optimism, fairness to all and noble ideals. It also aids the understanding of the

value of honest speech and self-analysis in the mind of the students. When the

mind is turned away from selfishness, the 'heart' opens, and love flows. Non-

violence can be described as universal love. Non-violence is taught through

quotations, storytelling and group activities. True knowledge is that which

establishes harmony and synthesis between science on the one hand and

spirituality and ethics on the other. Spiritual knowledge is also very

importance for students and people in the society.

Learning takes place through lesson plans based on practical, meaningful and fun activities using the five components of: Stories - about life, identity and relationships; Quotations,



poems and prayers; Songs and music; Silent sitting - exercises leading to inner calm and peace; Activities e.g. drama, discussion, games, role play, community services like NCC and NSS. Mutual cooperation and mutual understanding is established in the minds of the students at the initial stage. All the students are provided

opportunities to participate in tour programmes arranged by the institution. As

a result they develop the level of positive thinking in all walks of their life and

at the same time they develop the quality of adjustment in their minds. To

build a sustainable society, we must learn not to rival nature but to cooperate

with it and live in Harmony. In our college even though there are different

types of communities but all the students mingle in harmony. They don’t have

any discrimination. The students come from marginal society they have no

disparities. It is possible only through value based education provided in our

institution. Our college students participated in different rallies and gave

blood samples for the needy patients. It is a mark of respect towards society.

Our students believe in service to humanity is service to God.

students. Some of the students are stubborn and they are adamant in nature.

admissions are over orientation classes are conducted to mould the behavior of

the students. As a result the students build up their personality though

education and couselling. Education is a key which opens the doors of

cultural, intellectual, social, political, technical, scientific and moral values.

Post-accreditation Initiatives

The Institution has taken measures to improve the quality sustenance

and enhancement during the last four years. The institution has become a

sacred identify to the generation of the past students. Inter disciplinary



programmes like M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) and B.Sc (Computers) are

introduced in time with the fast changing social scenario. Department of

English provides soft skills and students communicative skills. Computer

Based Training programme is introduced in English at UG level during the

year 2005-2006. JKC training, more campus interviews, guidance and

counselling help the students in curricular aspects. Giving importance to

students’ health care and their personality development with academic

excellence is taken care of the Institution.

Meticulous care is taken to bridge the knowledge gap of the freshers’

at the early level, slow learners are grouped with advanced learners to

facilitate peer learning. Lecture method is supplemented with interactive and

students’ centric methods like CLT. The institution has taken steps to enhance

the quality and sustenance by using teaching aids and providing better

education methods. Maintaining and stimulating the environment through

potential value added courses which would cater to the needs and utilizing of

the students during the last four years. Providing practical oriented education

along with traditional courses to strengthen competitions spirit to face the life

challenges. Created community awareness and protecting the culture through

scientific to achieve quality substance. The extension activities are undertaken

by NCC, NSS with the help of rallies, Blood Donation camps, medical camps,

literary activities, AIDS awareness programme as a mark of sustenance and

enhancement measures of the Institution. Dr. S. Nazeer, NSS PO made lawn at

the entrance of the campus.

Innovative teaching methods include open forum, freedom expression,

quiz programmes, seminars, group discussions and socio economic surveys

have been strengthened for quality sustenance. Tutorial classes are conducted

for all the students after the college hours to strengthen self confidence of the

students to go through the examinations. Comprehensive annual academic

plans are prepared by incorporative innovative teaching learning methods, co-



curricular and extracurricular activities. Many lecturers attended seminars,

conferences, workshops, refresher courses and orientation courses for quality

sustenance. During the last four years all the departments have been

strengthened by appointment of regular faculty by the top management.

The Department of Chemistry visited Vijaya Milk Dairy, Nandyal and

students involved in the preparation of Doodhpeda and involved in the extract

of Butter on 28.09.2012. The Department of Economics, History and Political

Science organized Study Tour to Kanchipuram of Tamil Nadu during the year

2010-11 for the benefit of the students. The Department of Urdu celebrated

National Education Day on 11-11-2011 on the occasion of Moulana Abul

Kalam Azad. On the occasion of District level cultural youth festival held on

5th and 6th January 2012 at KVR Govt. College, Kurnool our college students

won the prizes in Skit, folk solo song and Rangoli. On the eve of National

Education Day, Languages Club has been established on 08-11-2012 on the

birth day celebration of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad in our Institution.

The institution encourages research culture among the members of the

family for quality sustenance. Research committee is constituted to minor

academic research and to provide to minor academic research and to provide

facilities as quality sustenance. One minor research project funded by UGC is

completed in the year 2011. Besides one faculty member submitted the

proposal for UGC. Three faculty members completed Ph.D. and five lecturers

are completed M. Phil.

To cope with the present day globalization, liberalization, information

technology and to improve employability skills to students, the institution

introducing computer application and certificate course in spoken English

during the last four years. The performance of all the departments,

Administration and Library are computerized by using latest technologies.

Internet facilities are accessible for the students and staff for quality



enhancement and sustenance .Manuscript magazine has been introduced in the

college from 2006 onwards to create innovative and creative skills among the

minds of the students and staff.

The departments are encouraged to setup subject societies with the

object to organize weekly seminars, special lectures and conferences to

enhance the quality sustenance. Library facilities have been improved by

providing more space for reading purpose. Added latest books, improving the

number of journals enhancing the modern facilities to the users. Staff are

familiarized with the modern audio visual teaching aids like Over Head

Projector, slide projector, power point presentation etc., Internet facility is

accessible for the students and staff for quality sustenance.

The institution has planned for the development of auditorium, reading

room and woman waiting room. Botanical garden has been improved along

with greenery of the campus. Municipal pipe line for drinking water is

provided by the institution during the year 2008-09. Mineral Water plant has

been installed in the college by the financial support of SPY Reddy, Member

of Parliament, Nandyal in 2012.

The institution has improved an adequate infrastructure facilities for

class rooms, laboratories. The mechanism developed by the institution for

quality sustenance. IQAC for guidance and review performance for quality

sustenance and giving guidance to reflect our core values. DRC providing for

exchange of faculty and students for quality enhancement and sustenance.

Fine Arts committee for cultural activities and promoting traditional culture.

The institution encourages the students to participate in Dancing, Music and

Drama etc., The institution communicates the quality assurance policies,

mechanisms and outcomes to the various internal and external stakeholders.



The institution provides guidance to the students in their efforts for

quality sustenance. The computerization of college is enhancing the quality of

administration and speedy of other procedures. The computer centre of the

college is also extending printing and internet browsing facilities to the

students and staff.

The college organized extension lecturers regularly by outstanding

professional Scientists, Administrators etc. This facilities and inspires the

students to imbibe the culture of excellence and provides direction for future

certificate courses in computers, Spoken English, Spoken Hindi and Hindi

translation courses. These courses have been started in the college to enhance

the professional and employment potential of the students.

The conducting of monthly tests, quarterly examinations, half yearly

examinations and Pre-final examinations by the college make the students

confident enough to face the University examinations freely and secure good

results. Remedial classes are being conducted by the institution specially for

SC, ST, OBC, Minorities funded by UGC.

The college has started productive unit of vermi compost in the college

campus which is helping free from pollution in the campus.

The Grievances and Redressal Cell of the college is providing

opportunities to the students to represent their problems and get them solved

within the stipulated time.

With the collaboration of the Department of Youth welfare, Kurnool

and our college NSS units organized an awareness programme on “Academic

Improvement and Career Achievement” on 05.12.2008. A well know



Psychologist V. Venkateswara Reddy counselled and guided the students on

the academic improvement and career guidance for quality enhancement.

With the help of feedback reports from the students the Principal

assesses the quality of performance of each lecturer every year. Every

Department discusses and reviews its curriculum coverage of syllabus,

performance of students in tests and seminars etc., in the departmental

meetings.

The college adopts ward counselling system. Each lecturer is allotted

thirty students in the tutor-ward system. Every lecturer is assigned two tutorial

classes per week to guide and counsel the students in their personal, academic

and professional pursuits. Ward in-charge monitors the students in tutorial

secessions regularly and advises the students both personally. Their parents

are intimated about progress of the wards by letters and phone messages.

Since 85% students get financial assistance and support provided by AP state

government in the form scholarships, fee reimbursement and from UGC

schemes. The dropout rate in the institution is minimal.

The government of Andhra Pradesh through APPSC appointed 6 full

time teachers to enhanced in commitment in teaching of this college during the

academic years 2011-13. The institution improves Botanical garden along with

the cleaning of the campus with the collaboration all the departments of this

institution.
