MASS INTENTIONS FOR HOLY WEEK:

JULY 10th, 2016, 15th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: The good Samaritan was also a good steward, giving his time and his treasure to meet his neighbor’s need. At the end of this familiar story, Jesus urges His hearers — and us — to go and do the same!

Birthday Support ♦ Anniversary ♥ Memorial

GO AND DO LIKEWISE Miss Collins, the dean of students at Olympic High School, was past the point of scolding Matt, though she liked him very much. “Four detentions in two weeks are too many.” Still Matt wouldn’t tell. It was only after Miss Collins went on a morning neighborhood patrol that she found out the real reason for Matt’s tardiness. Thump, thump, thump, came the wheelchair down the stairs. It was Matt, steadying Shawnetta as he helped lower her down the stairs and then push her to the corner bus stop. “She’s a girl in my parish youth group,” Matt explained to Miss Collins. There are many ways to describe Matt’s actions—a random act of kindness, making a difference one person at a time. Jesus would understand. When the lawyer correctly identified the good Samaritan as the one who had treated the injured man with compassion, Jesus said simply, “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Reflections on Today’s Readings: FOCUS: The Lord’s basic law - love for God and love for neighbor - is written in our hearts. While God is mysterious, the laws of God - and what the Lord wants of us - are easy to see and understand. For God has written His law in our hearts, and has revealed to us who He is through Jesus. Our God also lets us know one of the easiest ways to please Him: loving Him with our whole being, and loving and serving our neighbor. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading recounts Moses pointing out to the people of Israel how near the Lord is to them, and that his commandments have been written upon their hearts. Paul describes Jesus in the Letter of the Colossians as the revelation of God in human form. Today’s Gospel recalls the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Underage alcohol use could lead to larger problems - The negative consequences of underage drinking are

more widespread and serious than previously know. Research shows that alcohol can change the way the brain works and could lead to long-term consequences. Many more dangers of underage drinking are immediate, including alcohol poisoning, physical assault and poor decision making. You can help protect your children from the risks associated with drinking by maintaining open communication, and by expressing a clear, consistent message that underage drinking is unacceptable. Ministry equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

Kids Living Faith: Sunday, July 10th, 2016

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15

In today’s second reading, St. Paul says that if we want to imagine God, we can start by picturing Jesus. Of course, we don’t really know what Jesus looked like, but we do know that He treated people with love and respect. Last year, Pope Francis came to America to show people what Jesus was like, and how Jesus and God the Father are filled with love and mercy for everyone. You can show people what Jesus was like, too, in every kind and loving thing you do!

Dear Lord, protect and bless our Holy Father.

Effective Ways to Evangelize as a Catholic.

Receive the Gospel of Christ, whose herald you have become. Believe what you read, teach what

you believe, and practice what you teach. 11. Be proud (in the good sense) of being a Catholic. Live your life with holy boldness.

12. Focus on what is truly important. Relationships are what’s important. Christian values are important.

13. Set time apart daily for God. Don’t be afraid to tell others you do that.

14. Smile a lot. It makes you happy. It also makes others happy. It’s a great witness to your Christian joy. Smiling is a one word Christian philosophy on living.

15. Make Mass a habit; try to work daily Mass into your life as frequently as you can.

16. Say “Thank you” as often as you can. Expressing gratitude makes you more appreciative of what you have. Gratitude is a beautiful virtue. It helps make you, and those you thank, happy!

17. Choose to be a disciple of Jesus Christ; not simply a volunteer: pray, fast, give alms. Do works of service. Gently share your faith and explain how it brings you happiness.

18. Try always to do things in love. Let the love you choose be “agape love”… that is, love for the sake of the other.

19. Keep Sunday’s holy. Try not to spend money or engage in competitive organized sports on the Sabbath. Try not to do things that require others to work on Sunday.

20. Forgive others, sincerely. To be continued...

Theology on Tap. Hosted by St. Mark Church, Venice. Theology on Tap is a Speaker Series for Young Adults ages 18-39. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Sessions begin at 7 pm. Admission, parking, food and drink are FREE. July 10, 17, 24, and 31st. Email: [email protected].
