Dear Friends,

Every year the Church commemorates this last Sunday of Ordinary Time as the Solemnity of Our Lord

Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Christ the King Sunday begins the final week of the Liturgical Year. I’m sure

many of us wouldn’t mind if it were also the end of the Year 2020 as well, but that too will be ending soon enough.

For our nation at large and our own families in particular, this Thanksgiving promises to be a challenging

one. The act of thanks-giving, especially in the midst of hardship, is fundamentally Christian in nature. The Greek

word for giving thanks and praise, ευχαριστίας, is rendered “eucharist “ in English, and it is at the very heart of our

worship and our Faith.

Even in these challenging times, we still have plenty for which to be thankful and many reasons to offer

praise. No matter how limited our gatherings may be this year, we know that one guest will always be with us

when we come together, and he is not just any ordinary guest. Rather, he is of royal lineage. He is a king!

In the Gospel this weekend, this great King reveals himself almost paradoxically as a humble shepherd. He

says that, upon his judgment, the sheep shall be separated from the goats while declaring, ”...for I was hungry and

you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me.” Jesus is making it clear

that, in order to sit in the presence of royalty, we must first welcome in the downtrodden.

Let us resolve to treat all of God’s children, whatever their status in life, as we would treat a king. This

Thanksgiving, may we not just give thanks but praise as well. That way, when Christ comes to separate the sheep

from the goats, we won't find ourselves among the turkeys.

Love & Prayers,

Father Marty

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Gathering: To Jesus Christ our Sovereign King Martin B. Hellrigel

To Jesus Christ, our sov'reign King, Who is the world's salvation, All praise and homage do we bring And thanks and adoration.

Christ Jesus, Victor! Christ Jesus, Ruler! Christ Jesus, Lord and

Redeemer!

Your reign extend, O King benign, To ev'ry land and nation; For

in your kingdom, Lord divine, Alone we find salvation.

To you, and to your Church, great King, We pledge our hearts’

oblation Until before your throne we sing In endless jubilation.

Gloria I Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Reading 1 - Ez 34:11-12, 15-17

Thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will I tend my sheep. I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy, shepherding them rightly. As for you, my sheep, says the Lord GOD, I will judge between one sheep and another, between rams and goats.

Reading 2 1 Cor 15:20-26, 28

Brothers and sisters: Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through man, the resurrection of the dead came also through man. For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life, but each one in proper order: Christ the firstfruits; then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ; then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. When everything is subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to the one who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.

Gospel - Mt 25:31-46 Jesus said to his disciples: "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right

and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Profession of Faith

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen

Song of Praise: Whatsoever You Do Willard F. Jabusch

Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.

When I was hungry, you gave me to eat; When I was thirsty, you

gave me to drink. Now enter into the home of my Father.

When I was homeless, you opened your door; When I was naked,

you gave me your coat. Now enter into the home of my Father.

When I was weary, you helped me find rest; When I was anxious,

you calmed all my fears. Now enter into the home of my

Father.

When in a prison, you came to my cell; When on a sickbed, you

cared for my needs. Now enter into the home of my Father.

When I was laughed at, you stood by my side; When I was happy,

you shared in my joy. Now enter into the home of my Father.

A Note from the Director: After careful consideration, St. Columbkill Preschool has decided that it would be in the best in-terest of the students and staff to postpone the start date of the 2020-2021 preschool year until January 2021. While the decision to push the start of the school year back was not an easy one, we ultimately feel that it is best for the health and safety of the children and teach-ers. We are still accepting registrations for January 2021 for the 3 and 4 year old classes* and encourage those interested to reserve their child's spot as soon as possible as class sizes will be limited. Please contact Caitlin Nickel with any questions at 610-367-2371 or email [email protected].

Have you considered a Year-End Charitable Contribution?

If you itemize your deductions, making charita-ble contributions to your parish can decrease your tax bill. Donating a long-term appreciated asset such as a bond or stocks generally means that you do not have to pay capital gains, and you can take an income tax deduction for the full fair-market value.

Saint Columbkill currently has an account with TD Ameritrade, where parishioners can seam-lessly transfer assets over from their own ac-counts.

For those not itemizing, another smart year-end strategy is the Qualified Charitable Distri-bution (QCD). A QCD is generally a nontaxable distribution made directly by the trustee of your IRA to an organization eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. You must be at least age 70 ½ when the distribution is made. The maximum annual exclusion for QCDs is $100,000 per individual. These gifts to Saint Columbkill Church provide a lasting benefit to help our parish continue to serve those in need, and assure that necessary parish expenses can be met. For more informa-tion on these two valuable tax benefits, please consult your tax advisor or IRA Trustee. Our Parish Financial Officer Gayle Fontaine is also available to answer any general questions con-cerning this method of donation. Thank you in advance for your stewardship.

Queen of Peace, Pray for Us. Dear children, I know that I am present in your lives and in your hearts. I feel your love, I hear your prayers and direct them to my Son. But, my children, according to motherly love, I desire to be in the lives of all of my children. I desire to gather all of my children around me, beneath my motherly mantle. This is why I am inviting you and calling you, apostles of my love, to help me. (Jan. 2, 2020)

It has been a St. Columbkill tradition to send Christmas cards, greetings and prayers to those selflessly serving our

Adult Choir - Yes, there is an adult choir that sings many Sundays at the 9am Mass! We concentrate on Advent, Christmas and Lent seasons, as well as Easter, Mother's Day and Pentecost, and a few other Sundays for good measure. No audition, no need to read music! We practice many Sundays after the 9am Mass. Once and done for the week! Come check us out in the Ehst room (downstairs)! Contact Deb Maskrey at [email protected] for a schedule or with any questions. To Be Announced Cantors/Leaders of Song - our ranks have dwindled with the graduation of many of our youth cantors, and we need to increase the number of cantors for scheduling. Support is available by means of practice sessions with the organist/accompanist. This is a great opportunity for youth grades 7 and up to serve the parish community. It is also a great opportunity for parents to set the example for children by serving as a leader of song. Contact Deb Maskrey at [email protected] with questions or for more information, or chat with one of our current cantors! Put your piano lessons to good use! The children's choir and the adult choir of the parish could use an accompanist. Contact Caro-lyn Quinn for children's choir information and Deb Maskrey for the adult choir.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION ~ A JOURNEY: We are all on a journey and life is about going on the journey, not the getting there. It is in the seeking, questioning, and dreaming in our inner knowledge that we will find the Divine and find what is holy. This is how we will discover a way. a truth, and a light. A proven way to continue this journey is through spiritual direction. If interested in exploring this process please call Kevin Martin, O.F.S, M.S. at: 610-310- 7077 or Peg Choinski at 610-850-1869 or email Peg at [email protected]. All inquiries are confidential.
