TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READINGS The reading is from the Letter of Paul to the Romans (7:25-8:11)

Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I of myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weak-ened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not

Commemoration Day of the discovery of the Relics of St. Gregory the Illuminator

êµ. ¶ñÇ·áñ Èáõë³íáñãÇ Ýß˳ñÝ»ñÇ ¶ÇõïÁ On June 20th, Saturday, the Armenian Church observed the Com-memoration Day of the discovery of the relics of St. Gregory the Illu-minator which is one of the three significant feast days dedicated to the memory of the Patron Saint of Armenia and forefather of our Church. According to Holy Tradition, following Armenia’s conversion to Christianity, in his final years, St. Gregory led an ascetic life in the cave of Mane on the Mountain named Sepuh where he died in 326 A.D. Shepherds, finding his body, buried him not recognizing the Ar-menian Pontiff. One of his students, Garnik from Basen sees a vision, where Gregory identifies the location of his relics. The relics were there upon transferred to the village of Tordan, in the province of Da-ranagh, and buried there. The relics of St. Gregory the Illuminator are one of our most revered within the Armenian Church, as well as all Christian Churches. Fol-lowing their discovery, some were taken to various places for safe-keeping, among them Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin), Byzantium, and Italy. The Right Hand of the Saint, preserved in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, is one of the most important sanctities of the Ar-menian Church, and is used by the Catholicos of All Armenians dur-ing the blessing of the Holy Chrism (Muron). To commemorate the day, Divine Liturgy is celebrated in Churches dedicated to St. Gre-gory.

according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hos-tile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God really dwells in you. Any one who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteous-ness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you.

THE HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO MATTHEW (12:38 45)

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, some-thing greater than Solomon is here.

“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places seeking rest, but he finds none. Then he says, `I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and brings with him seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. So shall it be also with this evil generation.”

If you wish you can submit names before the Requiem Service through the Parish Council members.

May God rest their souls in His eternal peace and presence and grant their loved ones the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

We Too Mourn The Loss Of The Nine Innocent Lives We are sure that you all have heard about the shooting of nine innocent parishioners, including their pastor, in one of the oldest churches in South Carolina. Parishioners were gathered in the church to take part in a Bible Study, only to witness a disturb person come and kill nine of the participants. We will include all the victims in our requiem service and pray for their departed souls. We also will pray for the families of the victims. Let us always pray for the safety and security of all - black and white, men and women, young and old, abled and disabled - and ask for Christ’s guidance for all, so the good will dominate over the evil and that such horrible crimes will not be repeated anywhere on the face of this earth, let alone in a church. We too mourn the loss of the nine innocent victims. May their souls rest in peace.

Let us on this day remember in our prayers all fathers, grandfathers, Godfathers, and reverend fathers, asking God to give them the strength to meet their responsibilities and the challenges of each day with the help of our Lord’s merciful love and guidance.

As we read in the Bible, “keep your father’s commandment and for-sake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them always on your heart; fasten them around your neck. When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.” (Proverbs 6:20-22).

Today we welcome His Eminence Archbishop Yeghishe Gizirian to wor-ship with us and deliver the sermons of the day.
