ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH O Mary conceived without sin, Pray for Us who have recourse to Thee

NOVEMBER 19, 2017 PAGE 2

On September 11th, 2017, the new St. Mary Catholic Preschool opened its doors! The preschool facility is an entirely NEW facility, which in-cludes new buildings, security system, larger classrooms, more project spaces, increased toddler bathroom facilities, and new outdoor play-ground designed for preschool age

This is a licensed Catholic preschool with a top of the line research based age appropriate curriculum called “Creative Curriculum” for 2 – 5 year old children. There are classrooms for each of the following age ranges: 2-3 year olds, 3-4 year olds and 4-5 year olds. The faculty and clergy share with the parents the educational mission of the church. Together we teach the beliefs of the Catholic faith, build and live as a Christian community, and serve one another!

Our school virtues are kindness, patience, faith, love, humility, charity, honesty, and devotion. We of-fer the Catholic ABC’s Preschool Curriculum as well as weekly Spanish lessons, music lessons and cook-ing lessons.

Please consider sending your child to St. Mary Preschool. Not only will your child learn the skills need-ed for Kindergarten, but they will also be educated in the Catholic faith in a loving Christian environ-ment

The school is located at 130 E. 13th Avenue, Escondido, CA 92025. For more information, or to make a donation, please contact Andrea Wilson, Director, (760) 745-1611 Ext. 301 or at [email protected]

CULTURE OF LIFE AND PRO-LIFE MINISTRY

ON ASSISTED SUICIDE:

"To assist another's suicide is to take part in "an injus-tice which can never be excused, even if it is request-ed" (John Paul II, Evangelism Vitae, no. 66). Most people, regardless of religious affiliation, know that suicide is a terrible tragedy, one that a compassionate society should work to prevent. They realize that allowing doctors to pre-scribe the means for their patients to kill themselves is a corruption of the healing art. It even violates the Hippo-cratic Oath that has guided physicians for millennia: "I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan."

Proponents know these facts, so they avoid terms such as "assisting suicide" and instead use euphemisms such as "aid in dying". The organization leading this campaign has even concealed its agenda by changing it's name. The Hemlock Society, whose very name reminded people of the harsh reality of death by poison has become "Compassion and Choices"." (USCCB Statement on Phy-sician-Assisted Suicide)

Perpetual Adora on Benedíctus Deus in Anglis, et in Sanc s suia

Our Lord is Calling You: “I thirst for you” Isaiah 58:9. “Come to you for you have called me” 1 Sam 3:9. Is our Lord calling you? We have one of the greatest gifts here at St Mary's Perpetual Adoration. A sacred time to have a closer rela-tionship with our Lord. Who Sacrificed His life for us. How about sacrificing your time committing to one hour a week to sit, be still and embrace all the love He so desires to give us… for He thirst for us!

They are critical hours that need to be fil led. If not filled we are in danger of losing this precious gift that should NEVER be taken for granted. Please consider a critical hour. Critical hours are always posted in the bulletin and on the bulletin board at the entrance to the Adoration Chapel. Let’s give back a gift to the one who gave us the the greatest gift of sacrificing His life for us… Jesus Christ.

Please dedicate one hour weekly in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. The Ho-ly Spirit is calling you to help; adorers for many hours are needed. Please contact Donna Oeland at 760-489-8830 if you would like to commit to one of these hours below.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Earlier this autumn, we looked at how our Eucharistic Prayers have been enriched by the approval of several new prayers to augment the old Roman Canon. For us, there are the four standard prayers, three for Masses with Children, and the most recent ad-dition, the former Swiss Eucharistic Prayer with four alternative forms (now known as the Eucharistic Prayer for Masses for Various Needs and Occasions).

We also have two Eucharistic Prayers for Masses of Reconciliation. The source for these two prayers is the request by many bishops for a special prayer for the “Holy Year” of 1975. Originally, the committee in charge was commissioned to write a single pray-er, but the theme proved so rich that it gave rise to two. The first is based on and develops biblical texts on reconciliation. The second starts with the experience of living in today’s fractured world, and how the Spirit calls us to reconciliation and peace. Not everyone was happy with all this creativity, saying that if too many were published, it would be difficult for the Vatican to control further requests. Everyone thought the pope would put strict limits on the prayers, but in the end he said he was willing to open doors that had long been closed. Although he approved them for a period of only three years, they were never formally removed from the Sacramentary and have been incorporated into the new Roman Missal. —Rev.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
