Drodzy parafianie,

Kiedy obchodzimy Święto Objawienia Pańskiego, jestem

wdzięczny wszystkim parafianom i przyjaciołom parafii św. Jana

Jana Brebreuf z jakiegokolwiek powodu. Twoje

zrozumienie i przyjaźń mogą mieć znaczenie.

Dziękuję i niech Bóg błogosławi was i wasze rodziny!

Pokój i radość,

Ks. Mike Meany

Dear Parishioners, As we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany I’m grateful to all the parishioners and friends of St. John Brebreuf Parish for their generous spirit self-less giving. Your service to the poor and needy is exemplary! Your love has enabled countless num-ber of people to experience of little of heaven on earth! I know you have experienced the grace of God’s friendship through this great parish, but there are many who feel estranged or have drifted away from the church. Perhaps you know someone who feels this way and has been away from St. John Brebreuf Parish for whatever reason. Your understanding and friendship may make all the difference. Please know that I will pray for you as try to be God’s gentle and loving servant. With God’s help you’ll find the right words! Please be patient with yourself and those you wish to touch. As we begin the New Year we will all strive to con-tinue to follow in the footsteps of Christ and accept the call to give ourselves away for the common good. Thank you and may God bless you and yours! Peace and joy, Father Mike Meany

St. John Brebeuf Parishioners: St. John’s has been in discussions with Verizon Wireless and their tower development partner, Lendlease, regarding the possible construction of a 100’ flag pole style monopole communications tower at the south end of the school property. The current proposal includes the addition of a circular student drop off driveway at the south entrance of the school. The proposed flag pole tower would be placed at the center of the circular drive. A brick shed matching the school would be constructed against the existing south wall of the school building east of the entrance. As we know this proposal will generate many questions, we will be holding two informational meetings where Verizon’s site acqui-sition team members will be available to answer questions and address concerns. Both meetings will be held at 7 PM at the Father May Ministry Center, 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles, IL. The first meeting is sched-uled for January 18, 2018, and the second for January 25, 2018. Two dates were selected to accommodate those who may wish to attend, but have a conflict one of the nights. As both meetings will be identical in content, you only need to attend one. Those who cannot attend either meeting but still have questions may reach out directly to Verizon’s site acquisition representative, Mark Layne, at [email protected], or 630-890-4514. Informational Meeting re. Communications Tower with Verizon Wireless and Lendlease Where: St. John Brebeuf, Father May Ministry Center, 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles, IL 60174 When: January 18 and January 25, 2018, 7 PM We look forward to seeing you in January! Father Mike Meany

EPIPHANY-CHALK BLESSING There is an old tradition, still practiced in many areas of the world where faith-ful Catholics bless their homes on the feast of the Epiphany with blessed chalk. Chalk will be blessed at the end of every Mass this weekend. You are invited to take a piece of chalk and make the inscription 20+C+M+B+18 over the main doorway of your home on the inside. The letters stand for the Latin “Christus Mansionem Benedicat”-May Christ bless this home. The letters also

point to the names that tradition has assigned to the mysterious Magi, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. The crosses in between the letters represent the protection of the Precious Blood of Christ whom we invoke so that all who enter and depart our homes may enjoy God’s blessing. This tradition also provides a very public witness to our faith and will surely stimulate questions from others as to the meaning of this “writing above the door” and be an opportunity to share our faith in the World made Flesh-Jesus Christ our Lord.

Polish/English Mass and Benediction with Rosary for Life

St. John Brebeuf Church

Al l are invited to come and pray for an end of abortion in this 44th year of the Roe v Wade tragedy and for

protection of all those attending Pro-Life Ral l ies in Washington D.C.

and around the country.

The Knights of Columbus wil l have an Honor Guard with

Our Lady of Guadalupe Image “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn and support those in crisis pregnancies.”

Starting on the weekend of January 6-7, we are again asking our parishioners to participate in this special fund-raiser to help women in crisis pregnancies by supporting the pro-life work of the Catholic-run Women's Cen-ters of Greater Chicagoland. Baby bottles will be found in main entrances of the church for you to take home and fill with spare change. Any checks should be made out directly to the The Women's Centers. Over the prior 12 years our parish has already raised over $221,000 which helped to save 227 babies, who are now living out their lives amongst us. Many of them in turn will have children of their own. Continuing in the spirit of Christmas, let our parishioners of all ages, including the children, work together to save even more little lives. Please return the bottles before any of the masses on the weekend of February 10-11. Please take one bottle per family. Extras will be available in the back of the church the next couple of weekends if you fill up your first one. Thank you for participating in this worthy cause.

WE PRAY TOGETHER Did you know that the lyrics of our hymns and songs are actually beautiful prayers selected specifically for that Mass? That makes our hymnal your prayer book! If you are self-conscious about singing, participate by opening the hymnal and praying the text of the hymn as others sing. The Church encourages our full and active partici-pation in the Holy Mass. When you sing, you encourage others to do the same. Please use the hymnal!

SJB Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children's Liturgy of the Word is a worship experience geared especially for children ages 6 -10. It is a spe-cial opportunity for children to understand and appreciate Scripture at Sunday Mass. Basically, after the open-ing prayer (Collect) at the 10:45 a.m. English Mass and 12:30 p.m. Polish Mass, the children are invited to come forward with two adult Catechists and go to the Music Room in Church to participate in their own Litur-gy of the Word. Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers an experience for children to hear Scripture in words they understand and to share their own understanding of God's word. The children return to the main parish assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We warmly invite all children in the parish to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. All parents, please encourage your children to join when a clergy invite them to come forward to hear the Good News. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry will continue until June of 2018. We welcome all of our children ages 6 - 10 to participate in their own Liturgy of the Word! If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Maciek Karaban at 847-966-3269. Thank you!!!
