The preK-3 children are looking forward to the

spring season! Last week they enjoyed a nature walk to check for any signs of spring. The children were able to enjoy the playground due to the beautiful spring weather! They had a lot of fun exploring the outdoors and paying attention to the different sounds of birds chirping and squir-rels running around. The children visited our beautiful pond. They enjoyed feeding and counting all the colorful fish that were swimming around the pond.

Everyone was excited about their outdoor experi-ence. Each child took a turn to talk about what they have seen and heard. We decided to make colorful butterflies to welcome the coming spring season. We will enjoy more nature walks as the weather gets warmer. Next time the children will use magnifying glasses from our science kit to look closely at all new spring life and anything they find interesting!

THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFIGURATION “We used to be such good friends. How is it that you’ve moved so far away?” one man asked another. “Perhaps,” the other replied, “you have moved away. By standing still.” This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a continual journey when we are walking the paths of God’s will. It is not good for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life’s difficul-ties, or to wallow in our trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers who are also suffer-ing—or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body born of water and the Spirit, seeking God’s will, helping the reign of God to be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all time into the com-pany of heaven. Gospel — Atop a high mountain, Jesus was transfigured be-fore Peter, James, and John. (Matthew 17:1-9).

coming weeks!

LENTEN REGUATIONS

1. The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resur-rection. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence.

On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted, and two (2) smaller meals, which, if added together, would not exceed the main meal in quantity.

Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.

On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.

2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence “substantially”, or as a whole, is a serious obligation.

3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance.

4. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, March 5, 2017 to The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, June 11, 2017.

*Canon 920, §1. All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year.

It will commence at 7:00 p.m. and conclude around 8:30 p.m. It will consist of approximately six, weekly sessions. Many people have benefited from the kind of mutual support a Bereavement Group can offer. Nothing can ever replace a loved one, but together, in an atmosphere of love and understanding, we hope to provide some help in dealing with grief that death brings. The ministry is open to all. Please advise any members of your family and friends that we welcome them with compassionate arms. Diaper Drive for Birthright of Bergen County The Knights of Columbus wish to thank the Parishioners of Saint Joseph for their sup-port for the Diaper drive this past Janu-ary. We were able to collect over 2,000 dis-posable diapers, as well as towellettes and even baby clothes. These items were do-nated to Birthright of Bergen County. The Knights received a letter from Birthright,

thanking us for the donation, which will help the group con-tinue its mission to support pregnant women "...and the right of every child to be born." While the Knights did the collection, it was through the gener-osity of the parishioners and the Faith Formation program that we were able to help these women and their children.

A Girl Scout's Prayer

Lord, help us to be good Girl Scouts Ones whom the world can trust, Help us respect our neighbor's rights And never be unjust. Help us as Americans To be worthy of the flag we bear. Then help us as real Girl Scouts To be proud of the uniform we wear.

Help us to be clean, Dear Lord, In thought, word, and deed And help us to follow the law That is in the Girl Scout creed. Teach us to love our fellow man And then to serve him, too Help our actions to count, Dear Lord, In everything we do.

Give us strength to carry on And do our part each day, Make a place in this world for us And help us fill it, I pray. Make us what we ought to be And in Thy footsteps fall, Help us to live for others O great Scout Leader of us all.
