ST. TERESA OF AVILA CATHOLIC CHURCH AKRON, NEW YORK

Welcome to Fr. Andrew Lauricella, and my personal thanks for celebrating our weekend Masses while I'm away. Fr. Andrew and I

overlapped in seminary formation for a few years. He was ordained in 2012, completed his first parish assignment in Niagara Falls, and was then appointed Vocations Director for the diocese in 2015.

On this last weekend of January, I'd like to talk about the exciting year ahead at St. Teresa's -- our 150th anniversary year! You may recall that we are celebrating in a few specific ways.

First, there is an anniversary banner currently being made by our Quilting Ministry. I've seen sketches of the design and look forward to hanging it at the church entrance -- once the weather breaks, of course.

Secondly, we are in dialogue with a company to produce a new parish photo directory. As I announced a few weeks ago, I'm very grateful to Jennifer Brennan for coordinating this project. Thanks also to those who have volunteered to assist her. More helpers will certainly be welcome. Just let me know if you'd like to be part of it.

Thirdly, we will add some extra features to our parish picnic this year, making it a special anniversary event. I am still looking for a volunteer to coordinate the picnic. It's not a difficult task; there's just a lot of details.

Finally, we will conclude the anniversary festivities with a special Mass on the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Avila in October. And the weekend before that, there will be a formal sit-down dinner to celebrate our parish's legacy. Many thanks to Margie Wood who is organizing this event. Details (including cost & location) are yet-to-be-determined, but save the date of Sunday, October 13th, if you would like to come.

In this special year, let's make every weekend powerful with our worship. Give a little extra spunk to the prayers, sing with more spirit. Let Jesus know you're here! May our congregation be a light to the community.

Blessed be God forever, ~Fr. Dave

Our Prayer Request for the Week: That all who suffer in body, mind and soul will come to Jesus for relief; we pray to the Lord…

Please pray for the sick of the parish and their family members particularly; Shirley Lantz, Lorraine Sylvester, Norma Hackbush, Lucas Lowe,

Jim Creed, Liam Williams, Doug Schifferle, Jess Reger, Crystal Howard, Leah Howard, Whitey Spoth, Gloria Rembas, Gerald-ine Benker, and Barbara Litfin. Please also continue to pray for our troops who are serving our country throughout the world.

Prayer For Priests and Religious

God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as priests, deacons, and women religious. Send your Holy Spirit to help us respond generously and courageously to your call. May our community of faith support vocations of sacrificial love in our youth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

When Jesus read before the crowd today, He made known to us His vocation. What is yours? Are you called to be a priest, deacon, brother or sister? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Father Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535.

A lady opened her refrigerator and saw a rabbit sitting on one of the shelves, "What are you doing in there?" she asked. The rabbit

replied, "This is a Westinghouse, isn't it?" The lady confirmed, "Yes." "Well," the rabbit said, "I'm westing."

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

“Never water down an apology with

an excuse. If you’ve done wrong,

own up to it. In fact, even if you

haven’t done wrong, find a way to

make amends. Throw yourself on

the floor and beg for a blessing.

Then let the whole thing go.”

~J. Augustine Wetta, O.S.B.
