MISSION STATEMENT
We, the Catholic faith community of St.
Teresa of Avila parish, guided by the
Holy Spirit, commit ourselves to

Jesus Christ. Basing our lives on faith,
hope and love, we seek to meet our
needs and the spiritual and corporal
needs of those around us. It is our
humble prayer that our lives will be
visible signs of His presence in the

ST. TERESA OF AVILA CATHOLIC CHURCH AKRON, NEW YORK
Friends, we're in the green again. The last time we saw green vestments was February 9th! Do you
know why green is the color of Ordinary Time? As a rural community, you will appreciate the reason. Green is the color of healthy growth. This is a reminder that Ordinary Time is not "ordinary" in the sense of "blah." It's a time to stay the course, to be steady in our prayer lives so that our faith may grow.
So why do we call it Ordinary Time? The original Latin meaning of the word is "ordered by numbers" (by the way, we resume Ordinary Time in the 7th week - the first 6 weeks were before Lent). There are 31 of these weeks in all. So, during the weeks ahead, focus on spiritual growth and refuse to be "ordinary." I think just by living our faith we stand out among a culture which has become very predictable and monotonous.
Things were certainly not "blah" at our Youth Group Pentecost Party! Even the weather could not keep us from Can-Jam, ladderball, ninja, and foursquare -- to the tune of some loud and inspirational Christian music. High school teens, come and see for yourself at our next event: Sunday, June 12th, from 3 - 6 PM.
Our younger children also made a spiritual leap, as our third graders made their First Holy Communion last Saturday. Congratulations to you all, boys & girls, and I look forward to seeing you at Mass for your second Holy Communion. See how many you can make in a row!
At my first parish assignment, Queen of Heaven, there was a woman who told me she had received Communion every single First Friday since she made her First Communion - 70 years ago! In time she became ill and was unable to come to Mass. You can bet I made sure to bring her Communion on First Fridays -- I wasn't about to break that streak!
The First Communion of our parish children reminds us all to re-examine our faith in what the Eucharist is. Jesus said "This is my Body." He never once said it was a symbol of his body. We believe it is the True Presence of Jesus: Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. If, as our mothers used to tell us, "you are what you eat," then what does it do for us when we literally eat the Flesh of the Living God?
This is what happens at every single Mass, and it should blow us away with awe and wonder that God would give us such an incomprehensible gift. See you at the altar!
~ Fr . Dave

Prayer for Vocations
God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as sisters, brothers, and religious priests. Renew their knowledge and love of you, and send your Holy Spirit to help them respond generously and courageously to your will. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Listen to what Jesus says: “The Spirit of Truth will come to you.” What is the ‘truth’ of your life? How can you best serve God? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Father Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the M o n t h ” s t o r i e s a t www.buffalovocations.org! Sunday TV Mass - For those who are unable to physically attend Mass, the Diocese of Buffalo provides a televised Mass from the Our Lady Chapel at St. Joseph Cathedral that airs each Sunday on WUTV-FOX channel at 7:30 am.

Journey Into Love - The Office of Family Life Ministries is looking for married couples to assist with their monthly diocesan marriage preparation program. Married couples help by giving a 20 minute talk once or twice a year on essential topics and issues that engaged and newly married couples face. Married couples that support this ministry find it beneficial to their own marriage and their efforts contribute to the strengthening of family life as couples prepare for their marriage. If you are interested, call the Family Life Office at 716-847-2210.
Sister Mary Rose lived an exemplary life. When she died she was greeted at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter, who was clearly
surprised to see her. He checked the records and said, “Sister, you’re early; we weren’t expecting you for some time yet. You’ll have to return to earth and wait a while.” A week later, Sister Mary phoned heaven to bring St. Peter up to day. “This is Sister Mary Rose,” she began, “and I just want to let you know that everything is fine. While I’m waiting, I rented a little apartment over a local bar and took a part-time job there.” St. Peter thanked her but told her it was still not time. “Give me another call in a few more weeks,” he said. Sister Mary phone again in a month asking St. Peter if she should come home yet. She told St. Peter that everything was still ok. In fact, she met some new friends and had even gone out dancing with a guy she had met at the bar. But St. Peter told her it still wasn’t time. An-other couple months went by and St. Peter got a brief text message: “Pete, this is Rose. Don’t call me; I’ll call you.”
Join us for Memorial Day Mass at 8:00 am. Afterward, Father Dave will go to Russell Park to give the Invocation for the Village’s Memorial Day Observance.
