The case against Crawford began almost 6 months ago on November 14, 2013 when Maria Pedro, a 23 year old Guatemalan housewife residing in Esperanza Village, reported that at around 3 o’clock that Thursday evening she was on the farm road heading home carrying Seven Years For Fernando Crawford a sling bag as well as a black plastic shopping bag containing food items and with her child in her arms, when she was attacked. The crime rate in a communityis said to be proportionate withlevel of employment within thatcommunity. The higher the rateof unemployment; the higher therate of crime and vice versa. This view is holding true withinSan Ignacio, Santa Elena andsurrounding communities giventhat San Ignacio Police, for thepast several weeks, has beenreporting a drastic reductionin major crimes within thecommunity. The reduction incrime has been confirmed bycourt officials. It used to be, in the not sodistant past, when the San IgnacioTown’s courtroom was routinelypacked to capacity on Mondaymornings for the hearing of“new” matters being thosecommitted over the weekendbetween Friday night andMonday morning. The reduction in the weeklyintroduction of “new” mattersin the local judicial system hasresulted in the court having moretime now to dispense with“old” matters as the presidingmagistrate continues to be firmbut fair in the sentencing of thoseconvicted of the crimes for

Dear Editor; I was at the police station in SanIgnacio this Thursday afternoonwhere I saw two incidents which,as a concern citizen, I must bringto the public’s attention. In the first incident three malestudents from St. Ignatius HighSchool visited the stationaccompanied by one of the boy’sfather. They reported to thepolice that they were on theirway home from school when oneof them was assaulted by a boywhom they recognized asresiding in the Hot Point Areaof Santa Elena Town. In theincident the student was punchedin the face resulting in a swellingon the face and a wound inside themouth. The police issued the fatherwith a medical form and he tookhis son to the hospital formedical attention. These boys did the right thing. They did not retaliate but instead

first reported the matter to thefather who accompanied them tothe police station to make thereport. Commendable move on thepart of these three boys asa retaliation could havecompounded the incident. Ittherefore seems that either theirparents and or the teachers at St.Ignatius High School are guidingthem in right path. These boys reported the matterto the police with intent forjustice to be served. I am hopingthat the police will take swiftaction on the report and not justdisregard it; as doing so, will sendthe wrong message to theseyoung students. Who, in theabsence of due justice, will losefaith in the police which couldvery well lead them to retaliatein the event something like thiswould ever happening again. In the second incident, amother, from her appearance a

Sharing Two Incidents

humble woman at that, fromEsperanza Village visited thestation with a change of clothesfor her son in police lock up. Thepoliceman sitting behind the deskblankly refused to take theclothes from the mother andinstead instructed her to returntomorrow morning at 5:30 atwhich time she can get theclothes to her son. I might be mistaken, but I findit extremely hard to comprehendthis kind of treatment towards afellow human being. What onearth would it have taken for thatpoliceman to take the clothesfrom the mother and have itpassed on to her son at 5:30 thefollowing morning? This obviously poor mother, caring for her son in police cus-tody, does not have personaltransportation. Imagine theinconvenience it will cause thispoor mother to again make thejourney again from EsperanzaVillage to San Ignacio at suchearly hours in the morning. What

if she has other children to getready for school or a husband forwhom she must prepare lunch togo to work? I might be over reacting herebut I just cannot understand thetotal lack of compassion andunderstanding on the part of thispoliceman for a fellow humanbeing. If this is the policy of thedepartment then I ask for it to bereconsidered. Please, for God’s Sake, as apeople let us seek to show, at thevery least, a little bit of under-standing, care and compassiontowards fellow human beings.Let us bear in mind always thatwhat goes around will eventuallycome around no matter how longit takes, it WILL come around.Remember always that when wedo good, good befalls us.Similarity, when we do bad, badfollows us and when bad comesour way we call it bad luck. For it is written: Do untoothers as you would like othersto do onto you.

Tuberculosis (TB) is aninfectious disease that iscaused by a bacterium calledMycobacterium tuberculosis. TB primarily affects the lungs, but it can also affect organs inthe central nervous system, lymphatic system, andcirculatory system amongothers. This Medical News Todayinformation article providesdetails on what tuberculosis is,the causes of tuberculosis, itssymptoms, how the disease isdiagnosed, who gets TB,potential treatment options, andhow TB can be prevented.

What is tuberculosis? The disease was called"consumption" in the pastbecause of the way it wouldconsume infected people fromwithin. When a person becomesinfected with TB, the bacteriain the lungs multiply causingpneumonia; the patientexperiences chest pain and has apersistent cough which oftenbrings up blood. In addition, lymph nodes nearthe heart and lungs becomeenlarged. As the bacteria tryto spread to other parts of thebody they are interrupted bythe body's immune system. The immune system formsscar tissue or fibrosis aroundthe bacterium, which helpsfight the infection and preventsit from spreading within thebody and to other people. If the bacteria manage to breakthrough the scar tissue thedisease returns to an activestate; pneumonia develops andthere is damage to kidneys, bones, and the meninges thatline the spinal cord and brain. TB is generally classified asbeing either latent or active. Latent TB - the bacteria areinactive but present in the body. The patient has no symptomsand is not contagious. Active TB - the bacteria areactive and make the patient ill.Active TB is contagious. TB is a major cause of illnessand death worldwide, especiallyin Africa and Asia. Each yearthe disease kills almost 2million people. The disease isalso prevalent among peoplewith HIV/AIDS.

What causes tuberculosis? Tuberculosis is ultimatelycaused by the Mycobacteriumtuberculosis, a bacterium thatis spread from person to personthrough airborne particles.Inhaling infected particles doesnot necessarily mean that aperson becomes infected. One of three things mayhappen when Mycobacteriumtuberculosis enters the humanbody: 1. The bacterium is destroyedbecause the body has a strongimmune system. 2. The bacterium enters thebody and remains as latent TBinfection. The patient has nosymptoms and cannot transmit itto other people. 3. The patient becomes ill withTB.What are the signs symptoms

of tuberculosis? Most people who becomeinfected with Mycobacteriumtuberculosis do not presentsymptoms of the disease.

However, when symptomsare present, they include:

* unexplained weight loss * fatigue * shortness of breath * fever * night sweats * chills * loss of appetite.

Symptoms specific to thelungs include:

TUBERCULOSIS

* coughing that lasts for 3 or more weeks * coughing up blood * chest pain * painful breathing * pain when coughing.

How can tuberculosis beprevented?

The BCG vaccine is used inseveral parts of the world whereTB is common. It usually protectschildren and infants from thedisease, but its effects wear offwhen the patient reachesadulthood. Better methods of preventingtuberculosis or TB relapsesinclude eating a healthful dietthat boosts the immune system, having regular TB tests if youwork or live in a high riskenvironment, and completing a

TB medication regimen. To prevent transmitting thedisease to others if you areinfected, stay home, cover yourmouth, and ensure properventilation.

The Court Dispute Centred On 13 Songs, Including The Worldwide Hit “No Woman, No Cry”

A music company has lost itsbid to win back the rights to 13Bob Marley songs after a courtbattle in London. Cayman Music had attemptedto retrieve the rights to songsincluding No Woman, No Cry. It claimed they were notincluded when it sold some of itsrights in 1992 to Blue MountainMusic, as Marley, who died in1981, had penned them underother people's names. However the judge agreed thecopyright had "passed" under the1992 agreement. Lawyers for Blue Mountain, who administer royalties forMarley's works, said theyaccepted the singer had "falselyclaimed" the tracks - writtenbetween 1973 and 1976 - hadbeen composed by other peoplein an attempt to "escape theautomatic assignment of theircopyright to Cayman". But they said the "plainintention" of the two companies'agreement was to "transfer allrights", arguing on the "straight-forward application of ordinaryprinciples of contract law" theclaim had to be dismissed.

In his written ruling, deputyHigh Court judge RichardMeade concluded Cayman hadno rights to the songs because"Marley did not publiclydescribe himself as the author". "He deliberately misattributedtheir authorship to variousfriends and associates. It is

clear that his object in doing sowas to gain control of thecopyrights in the works andgain remuneration fromthem." He added Marley claimed hehad not been paid publishingroyalties and "thought he had agenuine grievance" against

Cayman. The other songs involved in thedispute included as CrazyBaldhead, Johnny Was, NattyDread, Positive Vibration, RatRace, Rebel Music (RoadBlock), Talking Blues, ThemBelly Full, Want More, War, WhoThe Cap Fit and So Jah Seh.
