Conventional Definition
Convulsive status epilepticus(CSE) Continuous generalized tonic-clonic
seizure activity with loss of consciousness for longer than 30 min, or two or more discrete seizures without a return to baseline mental status

Operational Definition
Convulsive status epilepticus(CSE) Continuous or intermittent seizures
lasting longer than 5 min without full recovery of consciousness between seizures

Termination of the Seizure andprevention of recurrence
• Goal : Stop seizure and prevent brain injury
• Seizures > 5 min to 10 min are at high risk of
continuing for at least 30 min
• Early treatment is the best outcome
