Beef upsecurity atyour homeAs residents return to work and school,ADT Security has appealed to homeown-ers to ensure that security at their homesis adequate and in proper working order.Rob Dale, managing director of ADT inthe Western Cape, suggests that a goodstartwouldbeto test thealarmsystemandbattery within your premises to makesure it is in working order.“Ideally this should be done at least twoweeks before you return to work.“Also, use the opportunity to check thatyour security provider has your most up-to-date work and cellphone numbers tocontact you in the event of any emergen-cy.”He says another approach to an assess-ment of home security is towork from theoutside in.“Walk around the yard and garden andlook for weak spots in the fence or wherethere is easy access for criminals to climbinto and out of the property.“Store valuables, such as bicycles andchildren’s toys, and anything that couldbe used to break into your home in alocked garage or shed.“Also check that locks on gates anddoors – including on the garage – are ina good condition and cannot be easilyforced or broken.“Further, make sure to trim denseshrubbery and bushes near windows anddoors to eliminatehidingplaces for crimi-nals.”The next step, Dale says, would be toevaluate security inside your home tomake it burglar-proof.“Check that all windows, outward-lead-ing doors and safety gates close and lockproperly.“Fit a deadbolt to any sliding windowor door that you are concerned could easi-ly be lifted off its track.”

Calvyn skepbewustheidMYRON WEYERS

Sokkerengimnastiekbewegings isook ten toon gestel.

Dr. Margarete Lamb, ’n voormali-
