TODAY’S GOSPEL: Mark 2:1-12

And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was re-ported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. And when Je-sus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiv-en." Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, "Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?" And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven.' or to say, 'Rise, take up your pallet and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" he said to the para-lytic—"I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home." And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

What is Navasard?

The holiday of Navasard – the ancient Armenian New Year – is celebrated by some in Armenia on August 11th. Navasard sym-bolizes the victory of Hayk Nahabet – the forefather and patri-arch of the Armenian people – over the Babylonian tyrant Bel. According to legend, about 4,500 years ago Hayk Nahabet de-feated Bel’s army, marking the dawn of the Armenian Republic. The holiday was devoted to the pagan gods, who were believed to bathe in the Aradzani River from where they returned to the heavens to participate in the festivities. On Navasard, an ox was sacrificed to the gods, and its blood was used to mark the fore-heads of celebrants. Navasard had been one of the most popular holidays before the Gregorian calendar took effect. Modern ethnographers have ap-pealed to the government requesting to make Navasard an offi-cial holiday.

PRINTER INK CARTRIDGE RECYCLING

Do you have empty printer ink cartridges sitting around your house? If so, please consider donating these used items

to the church for recycling.

St. John’s can receive a credit of $2.00 per cartridge on its office supply purchases. Used cartridges can be placed in a grocery bag and dropped off at the administrator’s office.

You can help your church and the environment

at the same time!

SUMMER ATTIRE

During the hot, humid days of summer, it is important to re-member how we dress when attending worship for Sunday Ba-darak, Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals. Men and women – Shorts, beach thongs, tank tops are not al-lowed Men - You may put aside the suit jacket and necktie for the summer, if you wish. Women – Please remember short mini-skirts and low cut blous-es are not proper attire for worship during any season. You may need a sweater because the A/C can be too cool for some. Children - Parents, please use good judgment to dress our little ones in their Sunday best.

When Badarak is concluded…

Upon exiting the church after the last blessing is given, please maintain quiet, not shouting or speaking loudly while walking out of the church. Be respectful to people venerating the Holy Gospel, and those remaining in their pews for post-Badarak prayer and reflection. Please be respectful of the celebrant as you are leaving. Often, after the final blessing, a special blessing service for an engaged couple, newborn infant, or madagh blessing may be taking place. Therefore, please refrain from loud conversations until you enter the lobby. Thank you. - Father Garabed

TUESDAY LUNCH CLUB CONTINUES

WITH NEW TOPIC

Tuesday, July 10th marked the start of a series of informative presenta-tions on topics that matter to people as they age.
