SURREY CCC’s YOUTH ASSESSMENTS 2012 U-11 to U-19

Do you know of promising young cricketers?

Have you ever wondered how promising young cricketers could play for Surrey?

Do you know what coaching activities are available for all young cricketers throughout the year?

This document has been put together to help us spread the word amongst cricket clubs and schools throughout Surrey about upcoming Assessments (part of Surrey CCC’s Talent ID programme) to which promising young cricketers can be nominated by their cricket club or school, as well as to inform you about activities and coaching programmes Surrey CCC will be running this coming summer and over next winter.

The following pages will explain some of the key programmes the Performance Department organises and show how they fit together into the Player Pathway, which our most promising young cricketers progress through on their way to potentially becoming professional cricketers.

We hope you find the information in this document interesting and that if you know of any promising young cricketers with the potential of joining our Player Pathway, please do nominate them for an Assessment later in the summer. Please do pass this information on to relevant people within your school or cricket club and, where possible, display the document.

Best wishes,

SURREY CCC’s YOUTH ASSESSMENTS 2012 U-11 to U-15 (in 2013 season)

Now is the time to nominate your promising U-11 to U-15 cricketers

This summer Surrey CCC’s Performance Department will be running a series of outdoor assessments to which cricket clubs and schools in the county can nominate their promising players. A nomination form is at the end of this document.

Those players nominated to us by clubs and schools will be invited to a specific Phase 1 Assessment along with a number of young cricketers already in our District Cricket programme.

These assessments are the first stage in identifying players for selection into next winter’s County Age Group (CAG) and District winter-training squads. We will be looking to select players into District winter-training squads at U-11, U-12, U-13 and U-14 in each of our 5 Districts (East, West, Central, Inner London and Outer London) as well as CAG winter-training squads at U-11, U-12, U-13, U-14 and U-15 ages.

A number of players from Phase 1 Assessments will subsequently be invited to attend a further round of assessments (Phase 2 Assessments). These will be held indoors in October & November 2012 and will also be attended by a number of players who were in the CAG set-up this summer.

Following completion of the Phase 2 Assessments we will be in a position to confirm 2013 District and County winter-training squads (commencing January 2013).

AN INTRODUCTION TO SURREY CCC’S COACHING COURSES

Development Courses (U-6 to U-16) Surrey CCC’s Development Department organise a programme of coaching courses for U-6s to U-16s. These coaching courses are open to all children, of all abilities, and teach the basic skills of batting, bowling and fielding through group coaching and games. They are 10-week courses that take place both pre-Christmas (October to December) and post-Christmas (January to March) and are run at venues throughout the county. The emphasis is on developing confidence, skills and an enjoyment of the game.

A range of Development Courses are also run during school holidays (Summer, Easter, half-terms and Christmas).

If young cricketers on a Development Course (ages U-11 upwards) are considered to have the potential to play District Cricket their details will be forwarded to the relevant District Manager.

For further information about Development Courses, including details on this coming winter’s programme, please visit surreycricketboard.org.

Performance Courses (U-8 to U-10)Players are selected onto Performance Courses based on their ability and potential as shown on their particular Development Course.

These courses are advanced post-Christmas coaching courses, run over 10-weeks (January to March) to which we invite the most promising U-8 to U-10 cricketers from pre-Christmas Development Courses.

The Performance Courses are one of the primary means of identifying players who may have the potential to play District and/or County Age Group cricket at U-9 and/or U-10 ages in the 2013 season.

The most promising U-8 to U-10 year-olds from the post-Christmas Performance Courses (as well as any other promising players identified on post-Christmas Development Courses) will be recommended for District U-10 squads and the County Age Group (CAG) U-9 squad.

Women and Girls CricketSurrey CCC organise girls CAG (County Age Group) cricket up to an U-17 squad, as well as a Senior Women side. There is one phase of Assessments for selection into girls CAG winter-training squads at each of these age groups: U-11, U-13, U-15 & U-17. These assessments will be held in November 2012.

For further information on how to nominate girls to these assessments please email [email protected] and we will email you a Nomination Form and further information about the assessments.
