Why cant we use splitter to connect more that one IRD
On a conventional satellite system, the selection of polarization is done by 2 voltages sent
from the IRD, typically 13V and 18V. A single LNB can only output one set of these
frequencies at a time..

Here are 2 IRDs connected to a single LNB
through the splitter. This will work fine,
until the IRDs need to select transponders
that are using different Polarities, then the
IRD selecting the EVEN transponders will
output 18v, and override the IRD selecting
13v ODD transponders.

18v, the other to 13v.Inside most cheaper
multiswitches are
voltage switched
relays, these can be
heard clicking when
the IRDs change

DishPro LNB and Switches
Dishnetwork has a line of switches and LNBs, called DishPro. DishPro LNBs use a different switching
technique as well as a scheme known as "stacking" to carry both sets of transponders on one cable,
frequency shifting the Even transponders to 1650 MHz - 2150 MHz and mixing them into the same
cable as the odd transponders. Currently the 301, 501, 508, 721 and all future receivers haveDishPro support, with current firmware. Advantages to DishPro LNBs are they can work on much
longer cable runs, up to 200 feet, simplified installation as a 3 satellite set-up requires only 3 cables to
be run to the switch. As well as providing true two-way communications between LNB, Switches and
the IRD, so having signal strength is not required to run a check switch.
Also, Dishpro hardware CANNOT be mixed with legacy hardware. If you have a Dishpro Twin or
Quad you CANNOT use a SW-21 and regular Dual LNB for a 3-sat connection. You must use ALL
Dishpro hardware.
Please note: When using DishPro Hardware, then converting back to legacy, run a check switch with
no connection to the satellite BEFORE you connect the legacy hardware, not doing so can damage
your LNBS and switches!
