History SW@XE SARL started off in 2003 in Dakar with IT services in mind. afronum GIE (later registered as an NGO) was an offspring which was occupied with IT development, hardware provided free from imported machines coming from Switzerland. After having realized some smaller projects, more than 100 PC’s and servers were being given for free to the Senegal police in order to form their personnel in IT basics, which has been done successfully for more that 6000 students up to now. This action has spread our name not only to the highest level of the Senegal government, but also to the public. Whereas SW@XE has its activities in IT support, network deployment and business consulting, afronum G.I.E. focuses on school / IT development. The difference is that afronum has a clearly humanitarian approach, SW@XE in turn is a profit oriented company. Following projects have been realized by SW@XE SARL and afronum GIE

Elementary school Ecole Keur Mbaye Fall 2003 (afronum) School police Grand Dakar 2004 (afronum) IT school National Police of Senegal in Dakar (Sûrété National) (SW@XE) Mayor’s offices network Grand Dakar 2004 (SW@XE) City of Matam (Cybercafe and school) 2006 (afronum) Collège privé afronum (Elementary school Thiès) 2008 (SW@XE) Ecole bilingue de Bakossi, Loum, Cameroon 2014 (afronum Cameroon)

We have the vision of an equally developed Africa in terms of education, connectivity, networking and basic IT knowledge. We are realistic enough to know that it is a long and enduring work. It needs a long breath and a lot of individualism to reach these goals, but we've seen and felt at lots of occasions that the country is hungry and we have to help it to get the share of education that it needs.

Please note the acknowledgement letters and articles which appeared in local newspapers about our work. This can give you an indication to which extent SW@XE/afronum is known in Senegal since 2004.

afronum GIE (Cameroon) Since 2013, we have been extending our activities to Cameroon, to the Bamiléké region (the axe Loum – Bafoussam – Mbouda – Bamenda) to promote our school concept. In November 2014, we entered a cooperation with the Ecole Bilingue Route de Bakossi in Loum to help reconstructing the school and adding new features like basic IT training with DELL laptops for a start.

Afterword Due to the financial crisis in 2008 we unfortunately lost our donors for the development projets, and the economic crisis had arrived in Senegal as well. The new airport at Ndiass, which was supposed to open in 2005 will now officially be working in 2017. We did not have enough business to carry on as planned and SW@XE was dormant for the last years. Senegal had its share of economic problems, as almost every country had, and at this time Africa was not yet in focus for big business like it is today. Since the Chinese have discovered Africa in terms of business (successfully), the image has changed dramatically, and this will be our chance to get our share. Economic growth is good in Senegal now, new highways have been constructed, gas fields were found off the coast, and the political situation has been stable. Two presidential changes within the last 20 years did pass without unrest or civil riots. Those facts and the economic growth in Senegal made us decide to revive our company and concentrate on consulting, also on advice by the chamber of Commerce Switzerland-Africa, of which I have been a member in Switzerland and Senegal as well for the last 15 years.
