    Dear Parents,

Imagine that one day you walk to your favorite candy store only to find, to your chagrin, that it is closed. There’s nothing you can do, so you simply hope that it will be open tomorrow. When you return the next day and it’s still closed, you start to wonder if the owner is on vacation and hope that he’s not sick. This can go on for a while, without you knowing for certain what has happened. As far as you know, the store is temporarily closed and will reopen as soon as the owner gets back or gets better. One day as you walk by the store, you notice that the sign that says “Candy Store” has been removed. At that moment you understand that the store is closed and will never reopen.

Shabbos is the אות-the sign of a Jew. Shabbos is a special day

which is part of our national “contract” with ה‘ . It is the special

“sign” between ה‘ and His people, as it says- ” כי אות היא ביני

sign between people? A איד may sometimes falter and slide, but

as long as he’s keeping שבת, you know that he’s still attached to

Judaism. If a person is שומר שבת-keeps Shabbos, the Torah tells us that he has not severed his ties to a Torah life. He has not removed the sign that “identifies the store”; he has not closed

the shop. By keeping Shabbos as a יום קדוש—a holy day, he is

holding up the sign that he is part of ה‘ ’s special nation.

review games. Did you hear about our “trip”

to the Palace of the King? and that we

learned the first ברכה in שמנה עשרה?

Sitting on the floor in the candlelight, learn-

ing and singing about רחל אמינו was very

inspiring! We’re really trying to learn from

This week we met our teacher for the very first .מידת הותרנות s’רחל

    time,

So now we will tell you in a rhyme.

We started writing notes in Chumash and Navi too

We’re getting good even if it’s hard to do!

    In Chumash—Moshe seemed delayed

and in Navi—Chana next to עלי prayed.

We started our contests in davening and parsha

    both,

We know we will get far (at least we hope!)

    We vacuumed the vaises one-two-three,

We didn’t mix them up with the Bais -you see.

We can do ביקור חולים and הכנסת אורחים

    too.

We learned this from אברהם אבינו .

Kindergarten will greet you in the very best way,

    מידת השנה!

On Tuesday was our Middas Hashana breakout. The stage was beautifully set up with a big present box with the words .in the background מתנה טובה יש לי בבית גנזי ושבת שמה Each girl received a highlighter with the words “Shabbos the highlight of our week”. Our middas hashana heads ,Nechama Brand and Shprintzy Kletzkin performed the new song beautifully. The girls then watched a short skit about Shabsi the watch repairman. As long as his ”sign “ is up he’s in business. to, בנ"י gave Shabbos as a sign to ה'testify that He created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. Each week that we keep Shabbos the “sign” is prominently displayed . When we are שומר שבת and honor the Shabbos IT IS A SIGN of our complete trust in Hashem. When we keep Shabbos, Hashem sees THAT OUR SIGN IS UP and in we believe in Him. Shabbos is a מתנה טובה—a precious gift, given only to בנ"י . This year we will learn to honor Shabbos properly, and understand the beauty of this day. It's a gift—let’s treat Shabbos the right way!
