7- Acquire the ability to Diagnose and know how to use Special Investigations in

diagnosis of maxillofacial Cystic Lesions and know the Principles of Treatment.

Specific Objectives of the course

-At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1- Identify, the basis, principles and methods of diagnosis of different surgical conditions.

2- Interpret the etiological factors for pericoronitis.

3- Acquire the ability to classify different types of pericoronitis.

4- Distinguish between different types of pericoronitis.

5- Recognize different methods for treatment of pericoronitis.

6- Define the terms impacted, embedded, ankylosed, unerupted, malposed, submerged and supernumerary

tooth.

7- Discuss different caused of impaction including both local and systemic causes.

8- Recognize possible complications of impacted teeth.

9- Realize classification of impacted lower third molar.

10- Acquire the skills to diagnose the position of impacted lower third molar and determine its proximity

to vital structures with radiographs.

11- Describe different surgical flaps to extract the impacted tooth.

Third: ( A ) Course Description:

Oral surgery is the art of using scientific knowledge to identify , diagnosis and

treatment the surgical conditions , and to distinguish one disease from another .The course is

deals with the study of the principles and basis of the minor surgical procedure , diagnosis

and treatment plans and also includes the application of local anesthetic procedure and simple

extraction, management of oral and maxillofacial infections, principles, diagnosis and

management of maxillofacial trauma, diagnosis, and management of maxillary sinus

conditions, diagnosis and understanding the patho-physiology of atrophic ridge and different

pre-prosthatic Surgery and finally an introduction to understand medical conditions of special

concern in surgery and principles of writing of a surgical referral to other specialty. Finally,

Application part: (Clinical part)

The Clinical requirements for this Course is : 25 Clinical Cases

With minimum requirements of 15 cases to pass the Course.

Each Candidate should finish 10 Cases (with minimum of 6 Cases) of Simple Extraction at 1st

semester. And 15 Cases (with minimum of 9 Cases) of Complex Extraction at 2nd

semester.

Less than 15 Cases mean failure in the Clinical Part of this Course.

The Theoretical Part will not be used for compensation of the Clinical Part.

This is mean that each candidates should pass each part of the Course (the Clinical part and

Theoretical part) to pass the Course.

Final Clinical Exam: is usually carried out in 2 Cases:

One Case of Simple Extraction and one Case of Complex Extraction.

The Examination will include but not limited to the following:

1) History taking and Medical Interpretations,

2) Selection of proper Instruments,

3) Skills in Surgical Procedure,

4) Patient’s Handling,

5) Post-operative Instructions.

6) Surgical knowledge.

7) Writing of proper records

The Student can be Examined at any time after 7th

week of second semester as he feeling fit to be

examined and the case is suitable for the examination.

The Student should take the agreement of his Supervisor before the exam
