Tbilisi is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Georgia. It lies on the banks of the Mt’k’vari river and covers an area of 500 sq.kmand an an urban area of 126 sq.km. It has a population of 1.2 million.

Founded in the 5th century AD by VakhtangGorgasali, the Georgian King of Kartli, and made into a capital in the 6th century, Tbilisi is a significant industrial, social, and cultural centre.

The city is also emerging as an important transit route for global energy and trade projects. Located strategically at the crossroads between Europe and Asia and lying along the historic Silk Routes, Tbilisi has often been the point of contention between various rivalling powers and empires.

The demographics of the city is diverse and historically it has been home to people from different cultures, religions and ethnicities.

On the north eastern side of the city is an area of land stretching up from the Tbilisi Sea, that is the subject of this study.

Located in the Isani-Samgori district of Tbilisi, we present the exciting future vision of ‘Tbilisi Aquarea’.

VISION STATEMENT

‘Tbilisi Aquarea’, presents an exciting vision for the future of this undeveloped district bordering the Tbilisi Sea within the Isani-Samgori district. The Tbilisi Sea is set against a backdrop of beautiful mountains and upland scenery and the important historic city of Tbilisi itself.The Economic Affairs Office of Tbilisi City Hall has a vision for the preparation of a strategic masterplan to promote its aspirations for the region.
