Learning requires exploration of one’s identity.

Learning ultimately supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits and the ancestors.

Learning is holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential, and relational (focused on connectedness on reciprocal relationships, and a sense of place).

Canadian Council on Learning (2004 - 2012)

Learning involves recognizing the consequences of one’s actions.

“...each person and each culture contains the seeds that are essential to their well-being and positive development.” -Look to the Mountain Cajete, Gregory

Learning is embedded in memory, history, and story

Learning is embedded in memory, history, and story.

Learning involves recognizing that some knowledge is sacred and only shared with permission and/ or in certain situations (FNESC, 2012)

TECK DAY DesignSCANNING: Determine the needs & wants of the students to develop a focus

Collaborate with educators (teachers, administration, assistants, Aboriginal support workers)

Collaborate with the community and find talented specialists (e.g., Elders, Aboriginal cultural knowledge holders, drummers, storytellers, ecologists, archaeologists, anthropologists, biologist, outdoor specialists, historians).
