Welcome Note

6

Dear participant,

It is our pleasure to welcome you, on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Advisory Committee, to the 18th International Conference on Solid State Dosimetry, SSD18, held here in Munich in 2016! This triennial conference series has a long scientific tradition after its successful start in 1965 at Stanford University, Palo Alto, USA and since then has left a remarkable track of innovative high-lights in radiation sciences and technology throughout the world. SSD18 will be the seventh conference of the series organized under the auspices and regulations of the International Solid State Dosimetry Organization (ISSDO).

SSD18 is a highly interdisciplinary event, bringing together leading scientists and industrial researchers from many disciplines, ranging from theoretical solid state physics, radiation monitoring and metrology, medical physics to retrospective dosimetry and luminescence dating in earth sciences. It promises to be another significant and exciting step towards further new, efficient and safe uses of ionizing radiation. The conference offers the oppor-tunity to meet colleagues, establish new personal contacts and share research experiences, latest findings and new ideas.

For the first time a SSD Conference is taking place in Germany. Munich as the host city is a hub where science meets with arts and culture, innovative high-tech with popular folklore tradition, and classical opera with brass music. Not only the city offers many touristic attractions and the world-famous beergardens but also the surrounding lakes and spectacular Alpine mountains are places worth visiting.

We are extraordinarily pleased that you have come to Munich to participate in SSD18. We wish that you find the conference scientifically inspiring and your time spent with us a great experience to remember.

Dr. Clemens Woda Prof. Dr. Dieter RegullaConference chair Honorary chair

Monday, 4 July 2016State Reception at the Munich ResidenceWe gratefully acknowledge the Bavarian government for grant-ing us this unique experience. The Munich Residence, built in 1385 as a small moated castle, served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918. Over the centuries the Wittelsbach dynasty transformed it into a magnificent palace, which is today one of the largest museum complexes in Bavaria. The palace’s state rooms and art collections cover the Renaissance, the early baroque period, the rococo era and classicism.

Wednesday, 6 July 2016Conference ToursTime 14.00Meeting point Holiday Inn Munich – City Centre, FoyerPlease note: Start of all tours is the Holiday Inn Munich. A guide will accompany you to

the official starting point of each tour.

“Allianz-Arena” (“Home of FC Bayern Munich”)What makes the Allianz Arena the world’s finest football arena? Find out for yourself! Take an Arena Tour for a behind the scenes insight into this extraordinary and unusual stadium.

Museum tour “Old and New Pinakothek”Milestones of European painting – the Alte Pinakothek brings together art from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Baroque and Rococo periods in a collection of astonishing density. The New Pinakothek begins thematically where the Alte Pinakothek ends: the late 18th century (Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Art Deco, and Impressionism). Founded in the mid-19th century by King Ludwig I of Bavaria, the Neue Pinakothek was the first public museum in Europe dedicated exclusively to contemporary art.

Museum tour “Modern Pinakothek”Housing four significant museum collections under one roof, the Pinakothek der Moderne is one of the world’s largest spaces for the art, architecture, and design of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Museum tour German Museum – Natural SciencesA house of superlatives: the world’s largest museum of science and technology opens its doors for a highlight tour through the natural sciences. One of the most popular events in the German Museum is without a doubt the high-voltage demonstration with alternating voltages up to 300,000 V and currents of up to 1,000 A followed by some with pulses that reach a maximum of nearly a million volts for two microseconds, simulating lightning strikes.

Time 14.15Meeting point Holiday Inn Munich – City Centre, FoyerPlease note: Start of all tours is the Holiday Inn Munich. A guide will accompany you to

the official starting point of each tour.

BMW-WorldThe tour provides an insight into the architecture of the BMW-World, the unique brand diversity of the BMW Group, the automobile collection and the logistics behind the scenes.

OSL- dosimeter Fit for the future

Easier to handle• Label with name of the carrier on the

dosimeter, anonymous dosimeter on request• Individual labelling• Ready for immediate use• Optional support frame in diff erent colours• Lightweight, no metal parts

Cost-effi cient• Price advantage over fi lm dosimeter• No purchase or replacement of dosimeter

cassettes necessary

Faster• We guarantee shipment of dosimeters by

the 22nd of each month

More accurate• Also at high energies• Nominal operating range: photon energy

16 keV – 7 MeV• Lower detection limit approx. 25 µSv

(fi lm 45 µSv)

Always up-to-date• Comfortable and fast data exchange between

you and Advandos by means of free DosiNet or DosiCon administration software

• Current status always visible• Faster information in case of emergency readouts• Orders online around the clock
