STUDENT PICK-UP CARDS
Please be reminded of the pick-up card arrangements.
General procedure for collecting students from school
Anyone collecting your child from school should present his/her Anfield School
Pick-up Card to the teacher at the time of dismissal. If you cannot collect your child in
person, the card should be passed to one of the persons named on our Release
Authorisation Form. The teacher will release your child to that person but only upon
presentation of the pick-up card (student card).
In the case that you are unable to forward the card to anyone, you must call the school
office on 2692 8823 as soon as possible, to inform the school as to who will be
collecting your child and by providing his/her FULL NAME and HONG KONG ID
NUMBER (even if his/her name is already named on the Release Authorisation Form).
If we do not hear from you, we will not release your child until we have contacted
you and/or an authorised person comes to pick the child up.
The school will call you for reconfirmation if we have any doubt regarding
non-parental pick up.
STUDENT TEMPERATURE RECORD SHEET
Please take your child's temperature every day before they come to school.
Parents/Guardians should record the child's temperature on the record sheet which
can be downloaded from the school website and sign it daily. Children will have their
temperature checked again as they arrive school.
*If the temperature is over 99oF or 37.2
oC, your child should not come to school and
you should consult a doctor promptly. Please contact the school to let us know that
your child will be absent.
PARKING
Please note that there is NO parking in school or on the roadside outside of school. To
avoid traffic congestion and the resulting dangers to the children, please avoid parking
close to the school.
We have been informed by the Management Office of World-Wide Gardens, that the
local police will be monitoring traffic near the school daily from 7.15 to 8.15am and
also from 3.15 to 4.45pm to ensure that cars are not being parked inconsiderately.
Please follow our advice and do not park near the school as you run the risk of
receiving a parking ticket!
There are free parking spaces at World-Wide Gardens visitors’ car park where you can
park for 30 minutes.
NUT FREE SCHOOL
Anfield School is a NUT FREE school as we have a number of students and staff with
severe nut allergies across the year-levels. When someone is allergic to tree nuts or
peanuts, the immune system overreacts to proteins in these foods. Every time the
person eats (or, in some cases, handles or breathes in) a peanut or tree nut, the body
thinks the proteins are harmful invaders. The immune system responds by kicking into
high gear to fend off the “invader.” This causes an allergic reaction, in which chemicals
like histamine are released in the body. This would cause the affected student to have
a severe and possibly life threatening allergic reaction, in need of medication and
possible hospital care. Children eat in a communal lunch room and so expose all
children and staff to nut products if these are brought in. This includes chocolates such
as Ferrero Roche and peanut butter products. Therefore we ask that you please be
thoughtful and sensitive to this issue when making your child’s snack/lunch and not
allow them bring any nuts or nut-products to school.
SCHOOL CLOSURE & PROCEDURES FOR TYPHOON & RAINSTORM WARNINGS
Parents should listen to radio or television announcements from the government
when typhoons affect Hong Kong or in the event of rainstorms.

When in doubt, parents should consult the school website for clarification on
arrangements in inclement weather. Please do not call the school in extreme weather
unless it is absolutely necessary.

receiving the pupils and holding them until arrangements can be made for them to
return home at an appropriate time.

IN THE CLASSROOM
A weekly look at what has been happening in your child’s classroom…
YEAR 1 – Miss Elise, Mr. Casey
Year 1 children have thoroughly enjoyed Maths Week, exploring all the different areas
within the subject. They have completed maths lessons linked with a variety of other
subject areas - science using magnets, computing using algorithms to make cup
pyramids, art using shapes and design technology measuring length. With maths being
an integral part of all these lessons, it was really stimulating for the children to
recognise the importance of maths in many other curriculum areas.
Continuing with our message from a sailor who is stranded on a desert island, we have
thought about what it would be like if we were in the sailor’s position. We created
mind maps of what we would do if we were on the island and the kinds of food we
could find to eat. The children created a list of all the important things they would do
and would need to survive, explaining their choices. With our lists in mind, we looked
at writing a diary entry, ensuring that we wrote in the first person using the words ‘I’
and ‘we’, that it was written in chronological order and also time connectives were
used. The diary entries were very exciting and it was interesting to see what each
individual child thought was important to them!
In science, we explored the forces of push and pull in more depth. This week, we
looked at the force “pull” and completed different investigations into how a pull force
can change or be affected, looking at weight, type of surface, the amount of people
contributing to the pulling force and the distance to pull across – very tiring
investigations indeed!
In R.E., we looked at mehndi designs used as body art. We learnt about their use in
celebrations and festivals, what they represent and symbols which are important. The
children drew their own mehndi patterns ensuring they used symbols important in
Hindu religion.
YEAR 2 – Miss Rachel, Miss Megan
We have had another wonderful week in Year 2!
This week in English, we have been revising our understanding of how to write an
effective character description. The children looked at a familiar character and we
discussed how the character’s feelings change over the course of the story. We also
wrote some wonderful adjectives and descriptive phrases about their appearance.
Finally, we discussed our opinion of the character using wonderful sentence openers
such as ‘I believe…’ and ‘In my opinion…’. Miss Megan’s class also completed their
work on information texts and wrote interesting pieces of work on a variety of
animals.
It has been an exciting week of work in maths as we have celebrated our annual Maths
Week! The children have applied their mathematical knowledge across many areas of
the curriculum, making Kandinsky inspired art work using different 2D shapes and
marble rollercoasters by measuring different heights in centimetres and metres. In Miss
Rachel’s maths group, the children completed a fractions treasure hunt around the
playground, using different strategies to solve the questions. In Miss Megan’s group,
the children have been revising how to use dienes rods and partitioning to help them
add and subtract 2-digit numbers.
In D.T. this week, the children have continued their fair trade chocolate bar wrapper
designs. The children first researched designs, thinking about why they appeal to a
consumer. We decided that great wrappers use bold, bright writing and often include
images of the ingredients or exciting pictures. We used these ideas to design a wrapper
for a brand new chocolate bar.
As part of Maths Week, the children are being encouraged to complete a maths based
activity at home. They should take part in a cooking or baking activity, using their
measuring skills to weigh ingredients and time the length of cooking needed. Please

YEAR 3 – Miss Rachel, Miss Lisa
Maths Week has been a great success. Thank you for helping to create your children’s
wonderful and jazzy maths hats! We had a different subject focus each day, e.g., our
art lesson covered tessellation, geography covered turns in angles and directional
language, and a problem solving lesson involved puzzles with lollypop sticks. We
have noticed an increase in the use of Mathletics this week, keeping a record and
checking daily to see who the keen participators are. The winners will be announced
on Monday. Please continue to encourage your children to use this valuable tool.
On Wednesday morning, we had our science trip to the theatre, where we met Dr.
Bunhead, a barmy, yet captivating, scientist. He amazed us with his deflagration and
detonation gas experiments with balloons and fire. The children learnt the three
elements needed to make a fire, how to make a hypothesis and the basics of gravity.
There were many experiments involving liquid nitrogen which we all found
fascinating. Ask your child what happens to a balloon when it is put in liquid nitrogen
and see if they can remember the answer. We will follow up this trip with a class quiz
and an experiment involving a nappy!
In English, we have continued our animal research and used the 5W’s (who, what,
where, when and why) to write a lead paragraph. The children have revisited
alliteration and also looked at puns. They tried hard to use these features to write a
catchy newspaper headline in under seven words. The next stage will be to plan what
we intend to include in a full article and then write it up into informative paragraphs.
Looking at different visuals of interactive maps has been the focus for computing this
term, with the children familiarising themselves with the oceans and continents,
navigating from one country to another. We have also looked at keys and symbols on
maps. There are some fantastic resources on the National Geographic website if your
child wants to continue digital mapping at home.
Next Friday will be International Food Day. We have started to decorate our table
banner for our chosen food dish and make posters for the ingredients included. The
children have been asked to dress in their country’s flag colours, if possible.

YEAR 4 – Miss Jackie, Miss Marie
We have been busy bees in Year 4 this week, an enjoyable and productive week all
round!
In English, we have been further exploring persuasive texts. We read a ‘pretend’
persuasive letter from Principal Vicky proposing that we ban playtimes at school. The
children felt very strongly about this argument and responded appropriately. They
have a sound understanding of how to argue their point and to support this with facts
and examples. They were able to use emotive language to support their viewpoint
and have a better understand of how to use openers to add fluency to their writing.
We are sure that we will not be banning playtimes at Anfield!
In Maths Week, the children have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in many exciting
lessons which have incorporated different areas of their learning including art,
geography and English. It has been a productive week with the children applying and
using their maths skills in various ways. Many children have commented on how they
never realised how their maths can help them with other subjects and so this has
reinforced how these skills are invaluable in everyday life. Many thanks for the huge
effort with our homework task posted on padlet - the teachers have been very
impressed with the array of toys available to buy on a budget! We will be busy
restocking our ‘Golden Time’ boxes with some of the ideas that have been posted.
On Wednesday, we visited the theatre to view a spectacular show called ‘Mr.
Bunhead’s Blastoff’. This show incorporated many different elements of science
learning whilst taking a trip to space! Teachers and children alike were on the edge of
their seats watching the various experiments that were demonstrated throughout the
day. There were many bangs and booms, along with a lot of laughter and enjoyment!

YEAR 5 – Miss Bethany, Miss Joanne
In English this week, the children have been studying ‘Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and
the Wardrobe’. During this time, they have become very familiar with the characters
and the setting. We wanted the children to not only demonstrate their knowledge of
the book, but to also further develop their skills in writing. Many of them are now
able to punctuate speech accurately and improve the language they are using within
their work. This week’s challenge was to include an embedded clause within direct
speech. As always, the children rose to the challenge and were able to meet the
learning objectives successfully.
As you know, this has been ‘Maths Week’ and we have been blown away by the great
response from the children on our padlet page. We feel this has given them a good
opportunity to understand how maths is important in our day-to-day lives. The
children also applied their mathematical knowledge and skills to many other areas
across the curriculum.
On Wednesday, we visited the theatre to see ‘Dr. Bunhead’s Blast Off’. The children
thoroughly enjoyed an exhilarating show which included lots of explosions and
scientific facts. As always, they were beautifully behaved.
In science, the children have impressed us with their skills in scientific enquiry. We took
a more child-led approach to experiments, to test their knowledge and understanding
of the process. The children demonstrated good ability to apply their previous
knowledge and experiences to various questions and scenarios. They were confident
in ensuring their tests were fair and that their questions were suitable - a brilliant effort!
YEAR 6 – Miss Anna
It has been another excellent week in Austria class.
In English, the children have been developing their research and note-taking skills
whilst researching information about volcanoes. They then used their research to
write an information text about different aspects of volcanoes, remembering to
include the key features of this genre of writing. The children tried hard to think about
the audience for their text and to make their writing interesting and engaging.
In maths, we have continued to revise some of the key topics we have covered in Year
6. This week, we consolidated our understanding of how to calculate the area and
perimeter of a range of regular and irregular shapes. We also revisited how to
interpret information from graphs and pie charts as well as continuing to develop our
problem-solving skills. As it is Maths Week, the children were also set a series of tasks
to complete on Mathletics, with each child trying hard to reach a high overall score.
This week in science, we learnt about variation and adaptation of plants and animals
to their surroundings. The children worked in small groups to look at a species of
animal, such as bears, and then research different types of bears, finding out how each
type has adapted to the environment it lives in. This is a challenging unit of learning,
containing complex ideas and scientific vocabulary and I am impressed by the positive
manner in which the children are responding to their learning.
On Thursday, we had a trip to the theatre to watch ‘Dr. Bunhead’s Blast Off!’ Dr.
Bunhead took the audience on an exciting journey through the development of the
science that has enabled us to send astronauts into space. His show was funny and
engaging, with lots of fascinating scientific information and loud bangs! The children in
Austria class participated enthusiastically in the show and behaved wonderfully. They
were a credit to our school and I was very proud of them.

ST. BOSCO CENTRE – Miss Emma, Miss Vicky
This week has been Maths Week in the St. Bosco Centre. We have enjoyed a range of
cross curricular maths lessons which have shown us that maths is all around us.
As part of design technology, we had to design, make and evaluate a marble run. In
groups, we were set the challenge of creating a marble rollercoaster to a specific design.
It had to be 1M tall with drops of no more than 5cm. We created it in groups and
competed against each other to see who had the most successful design.
In art, we looked at the work of Kandinsky and discussed his use of shape. As a class,
we created a collaborative piece of art work whilst listening to music and describing
2D shapes. The final pieces were very interesting and incorporated a range of shapes
and colours.
In computing, we looked at algorithms. Together, we created instructions or an
algorithm for our friends to create a stacking tower of cups. As teams we used
directional language and clear concise steps.
During science, we practised measuring and counting the number of paper clips we
could collect using magnets. As part of this we used and read scales for weight.
Finally in geography, we learnt about positional language. Using maps, we directed
the pirate ship to the buried treasure.
In English, we created an imaginative sandwich influenced by the story, “Sam’s
Sandwich”. As part of our big write, we wrote instructions using alliterative adjectives
to explain how to create our sandwich.

語,完成了相應的書寫工作紙。
二年級:

二年級同學本週主要複習了第五、六單元的字詞、課文及故事。同學們通過朗讀、口頭造句、寫字
比賽、工作紙等形式複習上述兩單元所學的詞彙。他們還通過朗讀故事、表演故事、互相用字卡測
試等形式進一步熟悉了故事内容,將所學的融會貫通。同學們還用所學到的詞彙對句型進行替換練
習。
無中文背景組:
本週該組同學複習了《美洲華語》第一冊第三單元的內容,認讀並練習書寫詞語。他們在認讀本單
元字詞的基礎上通過配對、畫圖等練習鞏固了所學字詞的字音、字形、字義,加強了對所學字詞的運
用。他們還複習了本課課文《小人上大山》、《晚上》、《媽媽的生日》,《起得早》,並跟著音
樂吟唱上述的課文。他們還複習了關於打招呼的口語内容。
三年級:

三年級的同學本週複習了《美洲華語》第二冊第九課的生字詞及句型,並朗誦了本課的課文及故事。

要性。此外,學生通過畫出自己家的平面圖並運用方位詞書面介紹它。
無中文背景組:
四年級的同學本週複習了《美洲華語》第二冊第九課的生字詞及句型,並朗誦了本課的課文及故事。
同學們已經開始總複習,本週大家一起複習了第一課到第四課的全部字詞和句型,並通過活動和遊
戲,進一步鞏固了字詞和句型的用法。此外,同學們還複習了「天氣假期」的口語,並通過活動鞏固

六年級:
有中文背景組:
本週六年級同學主要複習了第九課的字詞和課文,同時他們也複習了第二課的詞彙及課文,為五月
底的評估做準備。此外,本週為寫作週,同學們主要學習如何找出議論文的觀點及論據,明白如何
就一個話題說出自己的觀點及給出恰當的理由。他們以花木蘭的故事為話題,探討女性在古代與現
代的地位有何不同,並且說出例證,組織材料進行論述。
五、六年級無中文背景組:
該組同學本週複習了《美洲華語》第二冊第九課的生字詞及新句型,並在課堂上練習了字、詞的書
寫。學生通過你演我說的活動繼續練習了句型「先……再……」。同學們還複習了關於學校主題的口
語内容。
PHYSICAL EDUCATION – Mr. Calum
We have been doing some mathematics during our P.E. lessons for Maths Week. The
children have been able to learn where, and how, maths is important in P.E, fitness
and sport. I have been really impressed with how the children were able to use their
maths skills in a different environment and could clearly discuss how maths can be
applied in P.E. lessons.
Year 1
Year 1 children were using their maths skills to count the number of exercises their
partner could do in a minute. This required the children to challenge themselves
physically by working as fast as they could at the exercise, and mentally by counting
quickly.
Year 2
This week in P.E., the children were also counting how many of certain exercises they
could do in a minute. They used tally charts to help them count and were able to add
scores together to get group totals.
Year 3
Year 3 children were practising their dodgeball skills in preparation for an upcoming
tournament. I was really impressed with the dedication the children showed in
learning new rules and tactics. Well done, Year 3.
Year 4
This week, the children were counting the number of exercises they could do in a set
time. They then compared the numbers that they achieved for each exercise and
thought about why they could complete more of some, than others. The children also
discussed how the number of exercises that they completed in a minute related to how
they felt afterwards.
Year 5
Year 5 children were comparing exercises and the effects on the body, also measuring
their pulse. They took their pulse after each exercise for 15 or 30 seconds, and then
used multiplication to find how many beats per minute. The children also compared
their heart rates with the number of completed repetitions and type of exercise. I was
really impressed with some of the in-depth questions that the children were able to
ask.
Year 6
This week, the children were challenged both mentally and physically in their P.E.
lesson. Their task was to calculate what percentage of their maximum heart rate they
reached after each bout of exercise. I was pleased with the children’s reasoning and
calculation skills, as well as their determination to reach a high heart rate through
vigorous exercise.

MUSIC – Miss Sharon
In musical assembly this week, we were given the opportunity to teach each other
about music from our different class countries. Some of us presented our posters to the
rest of the school to show the children different instruments and musical genres from
these countries. We also had time to rehearse our songs that we will sing in church for
our End of Year Mass.
This week in our music lessons, we were able to compare and contrast music from
around the world. All of us finished our posters detailing musical styles and
instrumentation from our particular class country.
Some of us teamed up with other classes to make a comparison and look at the
similarities and differences between music in these countries.
We also found out that the instruments we discovered when doing our research were
influenced by where in the world our class country was.
Comparing and contrasting two pieces of music from different time periods was also a
focus for all. We had to think about musical elements and contrasts to help us work
out where they belonged in our time line.

SPANISH – Miss Marta
In Spanish during this week, we talked about the Mother’s Day and the traditions
present in different countries. We enjoyed decorating cards for our mothers and
writing in Spanish for this special day. Spanish pets will continue changing homes.
